- Comparing two Stihl MS460's, one built with an OEM Top End and the other with a HyWay 54mm Big-Bore top-end kit. Both saws are running dual-port mufflers. Both Top-Ends have roughly the same amount of run-time on them.
That chains on point 👌
Which one do you like better how how durable is the hyway kit got a 460 I'm thinking about putting a hyway big bore on I just wasn't sure if it was worth it in the long run
nice cutting
Enjoy the video friend just put the standard 52mm flyway kit on found that the ports were way smaller than OEM. I ported both I&E they about 3/16 smaller. Think about getting a BB kit as a backup did you make any adjustments to the carb?
Oh yes duhh any play with any port or exhaust side or intake side you will definitely have to retune
hyway how long does it work?
hey iv got a stock 460 and iv got a low budget I plain on buying the big bore kit but any other ideas for more power and how would I tell if iv got a magnum or normal 460 and I think iv got the single port muffler is there a way I can drill it? and what do people mean buy porting it and can I advance the timing on it for better top end torque
If you have a good running MS460, I wouldn't get a Big Bore kit for more power. The saw I built with the BB kit was a "lost cause" and I wanted to try out some of these cheap aftermarket top-end kits. Dual-Port mufflers are a bolt-on addition and probably the easiest way to get the most from a stock MS460. They're all over eBay and range from $20-$100. I've used a $30 DP muffler before and it worked great. Yes, you could drill your stock muffler but as cheap as the DP units are, and how well they work, I wouldn't bother. Make sure you retune the carburetor after any muffler mods. I have a video on that as well.
Lots of great resources on the Web for chainsaws and modifying them for power. There are dedicated builders that will port and tune your saw and you wouldn't believe it was the same saw when you get it back. If your serious about turning a stock saw into a monster, check this guy out.

Magnum should have 8 pin, HD Filter and I believe a bigger size H screw in carb? Not 100% sure but it's something close to that lol
What's the time difference between the saws?
stock :16s big bore:18s what???
Ok also my 460 says it's like 77cc but the dealer tells me it isn't 77 cc and the big bore kits are smaller cc than what my label says any info on that
The MS460 is 76.5cc, close enough for me. The big bore kit on the saw in the video makes it about 82cc. If the big bore kit is 54mm and stock is 52mm, and the stroke (36mm) is not changed, how can that decrease displacement? Sounds like your dealer needs a geometry lesson.
Brian Lawyer does the big bore kit help any can u tell a diff
hyway is faster with a few seconds several times I have detected time. is that right or am i wrong? thanks
Looks like west coast black oak.... Is this correct?
I hope you made it through 2020, I'm going to go with walnut.
Motore Meteor?
I put that same Big Bore Kit on an MS 440 with a little bit of work if you check out my videos it works great
Oh and by the way I am a creator dropping you a support and Thumbs up.
My hand filed stock 310 will out cut that
With 23% more engine displacement, I sure hope so. 🙄
Have you ever tried to cut a steak with the butter knife? That's what this video reminds me of.
@@gwp1ohioI cut my steaks with a fork, you must be eating some low quality bullshit if you're always needing a knife to cut it.
WOW You guys need to learn how to cut...
Need some tips on sharpening a chain for hardwood as well.
Look it is fast. OK. Do you work with that mfkr? No. You can't get fkn race glass n klots in the woods!! The one I used was for work! Not showing off!"
Who is showing off? The vid is simply to compare one saw built with aftermarket parts to one built with OEM parts. Neither saw is ported or even muffler modded. Built with off the shelf parts. I have no reservations about either as a work saw, both have been great firewood saws for over 2 years now.
BTW: neither saw is "fast" as 460s go.
Yes and it's just big bor kit not a improvement in my book!! Mumbers are never correct or the same in aftermarket !! A good ported saws will out last new in box saws!! Way more efficient. all engine is is air pump the faster and more air you move the more efficient!!!
My stock 044 will smoke that 460s ass..and its slow ..LOL
usaisalwaysnumber1 post your video sir! Log is 20-22” red oak, green.
Let's see ur 044 cut the same type of log Billy.......or should I call you Mr. Badasz
Comic book dude remark
I have a 047 Magnum RR custom deluxe edition imported from Botswana. It’ll blow any 044 out of the water. I’ll never post any vids though. Lol
An 044 wow nice fisher price sized saw
