  • I've finally got the MS460 clone saw built and my fingers are crossed that it will run well. There were some struggles with this build that I did not encounter with the MS660 clone build. I'll explain the bumps in the road, and tell you what I did to overcome them. Lets run this saw and see what happens!

I think you did a great job building that saw. It was really eating through that wood with no problems. It seems like it will be a great saw even if you need to replace an oil pump or a few other parts with OEM parts.
It is a Stihl design and a damn good working design. So hopefully most of the clone parts hold up really well to keep the cost down and you'll have a beast of a saw.
Getting that cylinder fixed like you did seems to have really worked out great.
    Great video. 😎👍

Put the cylinder in the belt sander, Precision at its finest. That’s awesome, I would be afraid I would take too much Chineseium off the cylinder base. I love the knock off saws because I’m just a home owner with no real need for a legit MS360 or MS460. Love the videos

It's gotta be quite satisfying to build and run one of those clones saw kits. I have the G660, but bought a pre-built from a dealer in my area. Use it primarily for milling, but cut the larger rounds with it as well. Heavy bugger for sure and not one that I want to lug around all day. Great video on your kit saw, thanks for sharing!

Nice job on the build. 👍 I’ve found on my clone saws that those Chinese carbs just don’t hold a tune very well. I bite the bullet and put OEM carbs on them. They run better and more consistent.

Just bought an assembled G466 power head last week . Took it on a Free wood haul right after I got it running and cut a couple large maple trees , one 33 inch at the stump . The saw pulled a 28 inch bar like a Beast !! After about 8-10 tanks it did stop oiling though, possibly got plugged up but haven't checked yet . For a saw that cuts that good and only $300 in it I'll gladly replace the oil pump.

Just curious Brad….your thoughts on the weight of the clone saws vs the original ? Wonder what a scale would show comparing like saws. Don’t forget to get that chain stretch out of her……I’m assuming it is a new chain from seeing the slack when you were sitting with it, just prior to the time lapse. It sure sounds good !! 🪵👍👏🥃

Hello Mr. Brad, the new saw seems to be doing well, I am going out in a few mins to start the break in of my new 291,some thing to consider, when the logs show up that are really large diameter say some thing like 30 inches on up, I installed a 36 inch Oregon bar and I run a ''skip chain'', which is a chain that is made with 30 or so percent less cutting teeth, and that helps maintain full cutting power and rpm's , it is a little cuts a wee bit slower, but it cuts well, engine does not bog down, and will cut anything you will ever be able to get home with , you are forever more patient with the missing parts than me, I would have been a thorn to the company for sending an incomplete kit to me,

    • @FirewoodattheFurnace
      @FirewoodattheFurnace  2 года назад +1

Good morning Ben. I’ve never used a skip tooth chain but I’ll keep that in mind. I’m trying not to take anything over 24” now but the occasional HUGE one comes in. These kits saws are kind of known for missing a part or two. Dealing with a Chinese company wasn’t really worth the hassle and I was excited to get it completed. Thanks as always for watching

@@FirewoodattheFurnace I have a Real Deal Stihl MS460, paid near 600 bucks for it 15 years ago. it is now dedicated to run the 36 inch bar, I bought the 291 to use when the big boy is really not needed, but I need some serious saw power just the same.

I find that thinning out the oil helps with oiling the bar and chain.
I’ve actually started using used motor oil exclusively for firewood
And I’ve run saws for around 7 years I’m full time certified arborist
Ofcourse nothing beats knowing you put stihl brand bar and chain oil in your saw instead of moter oil

Hello, these saws are kit saws sold by farmertec which is a company in China. They sell aftermarket parts but you can buy a kit that comes with every part to build the saw yourself for around $300. I also built a MS660 clone from them as well. They are obviously not made to the same standards as OEM but for the price it’s a good deal in my opinion. Thanks for watching!

The cost of a cheap copy just doesn't wash with me get a good saw and it will last ..if you're not a commercial operator ..a lifetime.
