- Cover a lot of ground here. A general conclusion to the Aftermarket Series of Stihl MS660 "Copies" and Kit saws project and this is a summary to this point. Will do something more formal later this year to finish it. Also had an interesting OLD Husqvarna on the bench, RIGHT after fighting with a Stihl MS260 which I never HAVE been able to get right, SO a little of the fall out and commentary when right after the MS260 attempt , rolling right into working on a 181...:) SO different an experience one vs. the other. Stuck in a little other footage to keep things interesting and a cookie cut preview of two 372 builds, both OE 372xpw's on XT cases.

I did a build couple of months ago. Only things I have noticed so far are the choke linkage / missing high idle and de-comp cap felling off. Both were quite straightforward to fix. Choke linkage can be stiffened up by drilling out the shaft hole and glue-in a piece of steel rod and filing a small piece of plastic to support the handle end. De-comp was secured by piece of steel wire (or even better with a small circlip) in the shaft groove. BTW, The squish was spot on out of the box - no room for base gasket delete etc. Overall I cannot much complain about the quality - This is a kit after all ...
I'm watching the old stuff. Grate show today you and Bob. Right on😆 Nice.😆
I was litteraly just about to make a video on the exact same topic, in my limited experience I find huskys so much easier to work on, and external clutches so much easier than internal clutches.
I'd love to see a summary video from your old footage and experience since making them.
Wait till ya get into the 441.i have one right now a 441c 2012 model.probably hardest saw I've worked on.so much crap to take of that intake.and fuel line pulse line pain in the butt.also I've been told by dealer the m tronic has a updated solenoid and orange fuel filter due to idle issues.i have to replace the clutch side case.so I picked up the Stihl seal tools to do it with no hassle.just need a OEM crank bearing.there a little pricey I guess.cant wait for the video:)
Nice
I own a big Blue aka g660 and I've replaced the throttle linkage and on off choke lever because I had no high idle and it wouldn't start in the winter on less I turned the idle screw way up other then that it works pretty good and I also did a muffler mod and noticed a good improvement in torque and power. I was gonna order a g372xp and hope I have as good of luck...
Found your videos very instructive, thank you!
My blue 660 just arrived, i've noticed she doesn't oil much. Only 1/3 oil tank for each fuel tank.
I cleaned everything, inspected the oil pump but i couldn't see anything wrong.
I'm using a stihl bar, those holes seem so tiny! The oil i'm using is a very high quality specific oil. The oil screw is turned for maximum flow.
Do you have any clue of what might be?
Sorry for my poor english, bye from Italy
I don't understand why people get so bent out of shape about a saw having a de-comp, it really does help on saving starter components on saws with High Compression.
How are these saws long term? Is there anything that needs to be changed on hem to make them more reliable?
I'd like to know just how much Partner influence is "stihl" in the Husqvarna saws being produced today.
The website says to run the Clone G372xp and the g660 clone at 25:1 oil to gas. How long did you do that before going to something around 50:1?
Never ran either 25:1 or 50:1 .. :)
@@afleetcommand lol. I remember hearing you say the mix you run just can't remember the video it was in. Please don't make me did through the whole library. Pretty Please!
32:1
What is your viewpoint on synthetic 2 cycle oils...in husqvarna saws...is Maxima Formula K2 a good oil...
I don't over analyse anymore , I just use the Husqvanra XP with non ethanol at 32:1, I guess any good two stroke oil should work. Except those designed for water cooled/marine applications. I'm not going to get into a spec war. The Stihl & Husqvarna products work fine and aren't too expensive. When I was running the dirt bikes, I used Mobil One MX 2T and BelRay H1r in everything including saws at 32:1 with excellent results. Many good options out there at this point and I don't have the band width to research further...:)
Im number 1 yeah
Anyone come up with a good solution/replacement for a 930 Jred cylinder ?
just hunt on eBay, they turn up from tome to time
This is why Stihl mechanics have to be better than Husky mechanics, anyone with a 5mm hex can tear apart a Husky in 20 minutes.
4mm only the muffler have 5mm typically, and that's also why its way more expensive to get work done on Stihl's over its life time..:) Some prefer to pay more for the same level of performance....and maintenance costs have to figure in over the life of a saw...AND you really don't have to be a better "Mechanic" as its about tight spaces to work in, you just have to have smaller....hands....:)
They are going to get worse as time goes on sir. Every engineer has to over complicate stuff to make sure you dont work on it.
