  • These saws really aren't all Farmertec, they are blended with other vendors parts. They ALL started with Farmertec Kits, but ALL without exception have parts from a variety of sources, from OEM to random ebay stores. Most of these are featured in build video's from last year.
    How those saws are used and a snap shot of what they are expected to do while in the "test" program. Some tips from someone who knows a lot about logging and processing the timber to be sold.
    And I need to make a point, in a follow up video. While these saws may not have swayed him from the Husqvarna brand saws, and they are a blend of parts NOT all Farmertec some other Chinese and Taiwanese manufacturers parts mixed in with OEM ( German? NOT always! ) There have been NO hard part failures this year with any of the test saws. None. So its not about reliability now, its just feel and preferences. Maybe if they go another year and another .... I think what happens is tools regardless of origin earn their respect over a period of time. Over a period of years if these saws keep doing what they are now they may have a different level of respect.
    SO now the mission changes. For can we make them last...to can we make them preferred. A Huge change! There is a growing "sub culture" around these saw. And here is the delima...A LOT of that is because of the "I built this" ownership of building these. I'm certainly guilty of that, one of my all time favorite saws is my "Farmer Jones" MS660's and its STILL running strong and is a "Go To" saw for big work. Showed up in a video this fall. And that's the roots of the "sub culture" or fan base....a DIY mentality and the ability to roll your own with a gazillion different parts from OEM to AM. Now the power heads are coming complete....for the same kind of money as the kits...SO will that "blunt" the growth of the DIY growth?? Or will it accelerate it? A subject for the next video..:)
    Note: Test Saw #3 is the "Better Build" I did January 2018, with a different crank, Hyway Pop Up Piston, HyWay handle, Hyway clutch. And it should be noted that saw build had no failures of any kind.

    At 13:55 you can see the sparks as he is bucking. No way to keep a chain sharp for long on dirty logs but his undercut technique will give you much more time between sharpenings. Been doing that for years just a good reminder!

    Nice vid, Walt! I learned to use that same bucking technique 30 years ago for the same reason, dirty, gritty, skidded logs....good skill to know! The sparks coming off the chain are a dead giveaway of how gritty things are. I do the same when cutting beach logs to avoid the sand. Hope your Christmas was awesome!

    Great video of what the saws are doing in a real working environment looks like they are holding up to some punishment!
    Haven't seen a filter that plugged up in a long time you can't ask anyone from any other saw keep on flying chips!!!!

    Bucking on the landing with a tractor to get those logs off of the ground, I would have given my left one for that! Nice Walt!

    Awesome to see that they will stand up to full time use.

      Almost full time...but way more than Hobby / Farmer use. They use them, but rather run the Husqvarna 390's

    He is definitely putting those clone saws thru there paces. It’s good to see that they are holding up with no major failures

    Walt your up late! i have found a Mac super Pro 700 near me in great running condition, owner is a mac collector, he says the saw screams for being only 70ccs, i am going to check out this weekend, he still wants a couple of Benjamin's for the saw and a few bars.(blessed for sure)
    so i think i am going to get that instead of a china saw because of so many videos (yours included) saying there are so many QC problems with those kit saws out of the gate... i think i will embark on the known than the unknown unless you can impart some more wisdom upon me. I talked to Bob today up in Maryland NY and he said to come out for a visit so im thinking April after trapping season... decisions decisions thanks for the Video Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and yours. td

    He probably runs a saw more in a week or two than most of us do in a year. If they will stand up to that professional use they will cut firewood for many years no problem.

    The G366 appears to be the 361 not the 360/036. That would explain the differences that you noticed between it and your 360/036.

      You know? I think you are right! And didn't even think about it....assumed the 360. I'm NOT a Stihl guy..:)

    I think about buying like a ms880 or a 3120 or maybe a real crisp ms660 OEM. But these China saws just work. My ms660 runs every time I need it and I've got a whole other one to build.
    It's the stigma I have of the Chinese. That stigma is going away.

    Well I was able to do the muffler on the 76cc blower lol. So she is getting no base gasket. I still ain't sure witch solder you use to check squish with. The one thing I do know that sucks is these new carbs an the new carbs on these blowers arent adjustable but we will see how she runs after I get the new cylinder

    Hi Walt very interesting vid! Have you ever run high octane gas in your saws? I just bought some 102 gas and ran a couple of tanks through. Seems to give more power but just my opinion.

    Sparks flying at 15:00 guessin just dirt? Don't normally see sparks like that during the day unless NAIL :(

      @afleetcommand  5 лет назад

      Actually you would be surprised when the lights are out how much sparking goes on, no nails. Maybe rocks in the mud though.

      @@afleetcommand On the next trees I cut up I'm going to give his cutting method a try, LGX chain I'm using loses it's edge quick first sign of dirt. Thanks for sharing those tips.

    My impression of the hulzforma 660 is the carb is junk, the handle bars are soft and bend easily, and the fuel tank is too small. For 250 delivered I am still willing to mess with it. I put a 36 inch sugihara bar and still chisel skip that I grind and that was almost as much as the saw. Maybe ok for wood cutter

    • @afleetcommand

      So go back the the build video's, the things I typically do to those have been articulated a bunch of times, no sense in re-inventing the wheel. At a MINIMUM get a Hyway brand handle bar and clutch. Stihl or Husqvarna OEM decomp. On the blue one the controls were better but I still would put in OEM choke and Trigger plastic. A good Spark plug and some of the carbs were OK but many I put on a Walbro from an 066

    I cannot understand why you are promoting buying anything made in China!!!

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  5 лет назад +1

      You obviously haven't watched the series then. :) Took three years to develop those to where they are. Its not about promoting anything, its about documenting the process it took to get to that point..and documenting the trials and tribulations required to get those saws useful. The point is for most OEM is a far better deal. For the hobbyist..they can be cheap fun. Of course the irony is we are both having this conversation on devices most likely built in China. So not interested in the BS hair splitting any more. Just whats available in the market place, and you obviously didn't hear the conclusion. BUT folks will see what they want to see I guess. :) And the only Brand I would promote if I when that way in the channel is Jonsered. But they are gone now...:)

    • @catherwoodcatherwood
      @catherwoodcatherwood 5 лет назад

      I have watched you videos and fully understand what you are doing. Maybe, “promoting” was the wrong choice of word. I had a 2165 rebuilt, asked for OEM piston and guess where it was made...China. Now I hear that OEM manufactures have better quality control than Chinese man. But that wasn’t what I was expecting.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  5 лет назад

      Imagine my surprise to see OEM 550 cylinders with a made in China sticker. So the lines are blurred...by the OEM's themselves. My personal favorites are the Older Jonsered's like my 920's (Want a 930). I do like the 562's and do "promote" them as they are awesome done right and got a lot of negative press. Also promote anything on that 365/372 chassis like your 2165. Why not put an OEM (Mahle) 372xpw tp end on that saw?? I'm making a 2171 with a 372xpw for my personal saw...call it a 2172xpw...:) And will "mod" my 2172 X-torq to run well I think. It's time to get that saw right. But to your point, the 660 Farmer Jones is a saw I really enjoyed building and now running. It wouldn't have mattered if it was OEM or AM, because there was a "me" component to that build....a Hobbyist mentality. And it was half the cost of doing the same with all OEM but I got acceptable results. That "build/ownership" model was replicated with the junk pile 385's, partly because Husqvarna has responded by dropping their prices on OEM cylinders to the point it makes no sense to buy AM. AND if you are paying attention the 385's won the battle of which are "preferred" so an observant one might say I was promoting 385HTSS saws. But cost is a big factor for Hobby saws. A completely different priority set than with the for real work saws....and I say that over and over and sometimes it seems to fall on deaf ears. But at the end of the day, I'm about testing and using whatever happens to be available to folks like myself. Origin doesn't matter to me anymore. Fun per dollar and bang per buck has to be a component of the story. Which is why I do both OEM and AM as that's what others do as well. I used to be very convicted on stay original/OEM, now while I may be conflicted, since these things are out there, I need to show whats required to end up with a useful machine. That's the mission. Then the viewers can decide for themselves if going through all that is worth the few bucks they might save,..assuming time costs nothing. For a pro...like Matt who tests some of my builds, he doesn't have that time. OEM is by far the best choice. But I'm not going to promote any thing, just document and show real time both the emotion related to good and bad results along with a sense of the effort required. The viewers can decide how they feel about all that. That's the point. I guess another question is about the morality of NOT showing the effort required to build these into something workable. At the end of the day...he chose OEM HTSS Builds for his work saws...and runs my test saws because I asked for the feed back. AND they take pressure off the more expensive saws. And for me? I will test anything that is interesting and comes to the channel, regardless of brand or origin, and I will keep the politics out of it. Period.

      I was under the impression that the XPW is too high for the 2165/2171.
      I had a new piston put in and the cylinder was honed and woods ported.
