    If I'm not bothering to split the case and do bearings, I flush the bottom end with premix and spin the crank around. I always get silver sparkles flushed out even on the nicest saws. Try it next time you do a top end. You would be surprised what comes out.

    I use the kids water color paint brush to pre lube the saws inards. Less of a chance to contaminate the moto seal.

    Hey Tinman! Hope all is well, I'm not much of a Stihl guy. However, you could tune a battery saw and I'd still be intrigued. Do you have or plan on marketing any merchandise?

    Hi Tinman.I want to ask you if i don't put on the piston the bottom ring, a little bit of fuel mixture, traveling from the groove to exhaust port.Thank you and happy Christmas from Greece.

    Hello master (395 xp), I want to enlarge the inner diameter of the cylinder by 2 mm... What is the tolerance between the cylinder and the piston in mm? I am trying to get a good compressor... I would be very happy if you answer, it is very important for me... Thank you

    There is about 15 degrees lower head temps on the same carb tune on a one ring cylinder vs running both rings. That 15 degrees will add a good batch of life to a top end on a ported saw. 20 to 30 degrees over your oil breakdown point will cook your saw.

    Just rebuilt my blown ms460 with a Meteor piston!......luckily the OEM cylinder really didn't sustain any serious damage... so I wanted the closest thing to OEM piston to mate with it. I'm kind of a snob for authenticity(OEM or Higher Quality aftermarket parts)..... and don't like putting my life behind knock-off or cheap crap as I get older! LOL....spend the money once, be done.

    Tinmansaws I've been working on a 2000 Husqvarna 365 special. I rebuilt the carburetor, put new air filter and lines in. (PS. The throttle and choke plates are moving fine.) When I go to start it up it will rev up uncontrollably without me touching throttle. (First time started since 2003-4) Could it be an air leak?

    • @tinmanssaws
      @tinmanssaws  11 месяцев назад

      I'd bet with certainty that's a pretty large air leak.

    I normally set the bolts in the cylinder right after I set the ring into the cylinder... Before I push it down to the case. Awesome 😎 video sir, as always! You were one of the inspirations behind my channel! Thanks for all the time you put in!!! Be well!!

    If both of those pistons are Meteor, why does the one look like its polished? And the other looks eh?

    • @tinmanssaws
      @tinmanssaws  11 месяцев назад

      Because I fit , deburred and flowed one piston to this cylinder. The other is out of the box.

    Good nostalgic video Tinman! Agreed the 460 runs out of wind. Hope the transfer and piston work gets you some R's.
    With Stihls it is easier to pre-load the cylinder mounting bolts before dropping it onto the piston. If the handle is still on the saw, usually it is impossible to install them with the cylinder on the case.

    Another great video! Quick question does ring gap matter and also circllip positioning 6/12oclock matter I ask cause I just rebuilt a Polaris 800 rmk where it matters

    • @tinmanssaws
      @tinmanssaws  11 месяцев назад +1

      I measure my ring gaps on all engines. Gap is subjective depending on the engine.
      Circlip openings should be at the 6 o'clock position is how I've always done it.

    Ported that saw needs a pipe, mine did. I’ve been running an Iron Horse pipe and it was ok, I made my own version with some internal geometry to it and it ran 15% faster in a cut, the absolute best for an 046 IMHO is a bear claw style pipe they ran the best on my saw

    Hi Tinman! Great to see you back at the bench working on a Stihl.
    I was recently thinking the 1 ring on a 2 ring piston back and forth… the point that worries me is the short circuit the empty ring groove creates inbetween the exhaust port and the upper transfers.
    Ever thought of putting a smaller ring in just to fill the lower groove?

  • @conormichael7964
    @conormichael7964 11 месяцев назад

    I can’t wait to see this saw in the wood, my 046 just finished 2 weeks with my buddy being ran really hard, those open transfers really help it, the finger ports did help but the lunged intake was one of the best things I’ve done, the wiesco pistons are also 100% worth it on the 460/046
