And that boys and girls is what real music sounds like!!! Even in rehearsal they sound amazing. Love the way Mick reigns them in we they need and lets'em loose during the guitar jam.
I've seen the Stones 20 times - one poor show in that offering (1981). Taylor killed it in Philly - his clear and distinct tones were a great reminder of his glory days.
I bought the remastered exile recently, then threw it out and busted out my old copy with the original mix instead. I just cannot stop listening to that album. My GF gets pissed, I play it all the time. There is just something magical about that album that very few groups have captured since. Maybe Slash found a bit of that magic on Appetite for Destruction (largely Stones/Zeppelin influenced), but its just got that "something" that defies explanation and goes beyond the songs themselves.
I love this. I saw the Stones in San Diego this year (2015) and they were fantastic. The stadium was filled with around 40,000 like-minded people so they must be doing something right. I hope I get the chance to see them again. I don't get all the criticism and arguing over Mick Taylor's contributions or playing vs Ronnie Wood. Ronnie Wood is a Rolling Stone. Mick Taylor is a great blues guitarist, but he was never really a Rolling Stone. He never really fit in with them. He made some great contributions to some of their best work - period. Bands evolve. As to the Stones still performing: Lucky for us. We should treasure them not run them down. They still deliver after all of these years. Any of you so called "critics" ever run into Jagger or Richards on the street you would wet yourselves so quit acting like you are above it all.
Yes I agree Taylor added the cream on top of a cake that was baked by Keef and Mick , Bobby Keys was more of a Stone than Taylor , there is no doubt that he missed also the Stones in later years as he never really did anything.
+Sophie Katt-- lol, girl, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!😃😃😃😃 LOOOOOVE this track, especially with Bobby on that signifyin' sax. 😈😈😈😈 With all due respect to the new man, Bobby is much missed by all us fans. 😳😳😳😳 Long live our guys!!!!😊☺😄😎
I've seen so many stones shows since 1981 and hope there will be more. But I wish i could be able to be in the room when they're rehearsing and just messing around. The best would be the 1972 rehearsals.
Woodie does okay on a solo that is both historic and very tough to emulate without "copying" note for note.......he does pretty well actually, keeping the feel of the solo.....Mick Taylor really played some beautiful solos, lyrical, flowing.....Woodie feels the music no doubt
I know I am late to the party regarding this video. Whenever I see a video of the Stones practicing (since the late 1980s), it is always a major production with dozens of people around, with video cameras and sound recording running. I often wonder how long it has been since just the five of them have practiced, maybe with a handful of extra people (guitar techs, etc...); dare I say having to carry their own guitars and amps. Likely the mid to late 1960s.
I love that Ronnie has his own style and isn't trying to copy Mick Taylor note for note on the solo part. It makes it different, not better or worse, just different.
Ronnie looks cooler. Taylor kind of lucked out and appeared when jagger/richards were at their creative peak. He did some real tasty stuff nonetheless I prefer the stuff wood did with the faces over taylor though.
NICE...love the bluesy sound of this tune, which sadly they've never played in concerts I've attended. The background singers, sax & other horns, and yes even Woody all sound pretty sweet to my ears. Agree with other commenters though that NO one can out-guitar Taylor & his Les paul on this song. Will add that Mick looks very buff for a 59 y.o. here -- I can only hope to be in that kinda shape @ that age :=)
@mferrusca I suppose I got carried away myself I know they've may not sound as great as they did back in the Exile era with Taylor but I truly believe that on these past few tours, a good majority of the shows could stand up to any that they did back in '72-'73 which is what most people consider the Stones to be at their peak. I say they're at their peak now.
I know they have no idea how important that is to be listening to them. People would pay a hundreds if not thousands of dollars to sit there and listen to live rehearsal these days
When they originally recorded this, the lyrics were not issued for copyrights, so they called the band in to write the words down, and Mick (and everyone else) either didnt know or remember. This is why we've heard "plastic boots", "nasty boots", "littel boots",and "chinese boots". A song written by drug users, about using drugs, and they forgot! Classic fuckin' Stones story! I heard Mick was coked up knockin' on Mia's door, and wrote these lyrics.
@keef186 You got a point, I got carried away generalizing. Specially since I've been rediscovering the Exile album and was on that frameset of musicianship. Let's not forget the context of this video: rehearsal.
@gottajamm Read Keith's autobio to learn about Mick T and Woodie. Taylor had the role of lead guitarist while Keith and Woodie are able to mix their guitars together offering their typical sound...
I guess I'm in the minority here, but I think this is great! And you have to cut them a little slack since it's just a rehearsal. I've seen them 11 times since Steel Wheels. Long live the Stones!
@mferrusca The best part about being the writer of one of the most recognized guitar riffs in history is that you don't have to play it the same way twice if you don't want to. The only "young" musician that they play with regularly is Daryl the bass player. Bobby Keys (on the vid) still plays sax with them...he's the same age as Richards and been with them since Let it Bleed in 1969. The backup singers have been the same since at least the Steel Wheels tour...who are you referring to then?
The Stones so much better raw and without a 50 peice horn section backing them up. I've seen em 6 times and just wish they'd strip back down to a hard rock band. Long live the Stones!
@mferrusca It's just a rehearsal holy shit! Did any of you see them on the Licks tour? Some of their best shows ever and I've seen them over 30 times in concert.
@Sharky165 You make a good point. They are one of the best antidotes to Miley, Jonas etc. and live they still deliver but I think a band with such an important legacy and were once a genuine threat to the British establishment, and set the template for rebellious rocknroll have been creatively dead since the late 70's and have sadaly become a parody of themselves. As you say, they could've retired many times and don't need the bucks so why continue at absurd prices? It can only be greed.
@cgraber I was thinking about Daryl and Lisa, to be specific. I totally agree on the riff argument of yours. That would be boring as hell and folks like Santana, Gary Moore, SRV would have never as good or interesting if they only repeated themselves.
50 years of practicing this tune, and you still see the magic.
Rebecca Russell 30 years when this was recorded
One of the great songs on what I consider to be the greatest Rock and Roll record of all time!!
Mick doing his best to bring the Stones in position for the concert. thanks for posting....rehearsal.
Stones are THE best. Gonna miss Bobby Keyes on the sax in tunes like this.
And that boys and girls is what real music sounds like!!! Even in rehearsal they sound amazing. Love the way Mick reigns them in we they need and lets'em loose during the guitar jam.
It was great live in Philly in July of 2013 - Taylor and Keef were fantastic. Such a thrill to see Mick Taylor play this classic track.
So tell me...was Mick Taylor's playing like it was in all those kick ass videos of him in '72?
pup lover of course not. i love the stones to death but they were rarely good live
I've seen the Stones 20 times - one poor show in that offering (1981). Taylor killed it in Philly - his clear and distinct tones were a great reminder of his glory days.
Shawn Hale Voice of reason, yay!

I love love love this tune....the mini jam session the 2nd half always did it for me....
What a GEM ! Thanks for posting !
Shout out to Bobby Keys!!! Fuck,,, thanks for your playing man
Thanks for posting this!

- Anyhow Taylor didn't care too much about being a stone. Or just for one day. After that he had to do his own stuff...
Yes I agree Taylor added the cream on top of a cake that was baked by Keef and Mick , Bobby Keys was more of a Stone than Taylor , there is no doubt that he missed also the Stones in later years as he never really did anything.
wow, thx, this is a keeper
What great footage! This is quite possibly my very favorite Stones tune.
My favorite. This is a treat here.
Awesome. Thanks for this fine stuff.
Greatest hits tour .. don't stop new single. 40 th anniversary tour. Now I'm going see them this upcoming year .. met life . N Moms coming
Charlie is the coolest drummer in all of rock!
Nice, perfect. Thanks for posting.

Mick Taylor era Stones is my favorite era.

this is fantastic. note that there is a perfect chemistry between the stones and without ego.
Love this song the instrumental is the best part , Thank you Stones :- )
Amazing! Superlative!
Wow that was enjoyable. Cheers.
thats awesome
Charlie,our angel...
Love Lisa shes soo sweet and a awesome voice.
I love that Ronnie has his own style and isn't trying to copy Mick Taylor note for note on the solo part. It makes it different, not better or worse, just different.
Awesome!!
It gets better......❤
those are the coolest old dudes i ever seen
Taylor played on three songs in Philly. Rambler was my personal concert highlight.
I like it
EXCELLENT
thats so true, Taylor is just the master of a huge piece of Stones history that Ron can't revive!
Muy buen vídeo: los Stones engrasando la maquinaría.
Keef looks like he's having such a great time.
Not bad for a rehearsal. Pretty low key but tight AF. Love the back up singer. Not even gonna talk about MT vs Ronnie. Everybody already knows.
caffeinejo
I love the Stones, but just can’t stop wondering how it would’ve played out if Taylor stayed
Ronnie looks cooler. Taylor kind of lucked out and appeared when jagger/richards were at their creative peak. He did some real tasty stuff nonetheless
I prefer the stuff wood did with the faces over taylor though.
m woo yep. Taylor was great with the Stones. Dont take nothing from Ronnie. Great player. Ronnie with Faces was magic
Low energy libs
Sweet black,my angel❤
EXELENTE!!!
the stones are the best
This Rocks nicely for later work. Good to see Ron Wood doing some nice playing (on the wagon helps!)
That ain't no jelly, that's JAM man!
How cool is Keef !!!!!
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah
NICE...love the bluesy sound of this tune, which sadly they've never played in concerts I've attended. The background singers, sax & other horns, and yes even Woody all sound pretty sweet to my ears. Simply awesome. A little too slow for my taste, but the magic is still there!
awesome anyway you look at it
I can't believe the criticism. It's a rehearsal!! Brilliant stuff I reckon.
This is the best fuckin bar band I've ever seen!
excelente
Hope they got the gig
@mferrusca I suppose I got carried away myself I know they've may not sound as great as they did back in the Exile era with Taylor but I truly believe that on these past few tours, a good majority of the shows could stand up to any that they did back in '72-'73 which is what most people consider the Stones to be at their peak. Those lucky bastards standing there watching this!
I know they have no idea how important that is to be listening to them. People would pay a hundreds if not thousands of dollars to sit there and listen to live rehearsal these days
Awesome....but no one can replace Mick T-the greatest lead guitarist of all time.
One day ,I'm gonna be in this band. Sublime(and i don't use that word often).the opposite of Overlime.
Ronnie is great !
great atmosphere,Keith looks older than today, hail hail bobby keys
I'm 15 and this has been my fav song since I was 5!!!

@theshockingpinks It's a rehearsal. The full sound of the concert is not switched on.
RIP Charlie
Seen this a hundred times and it just goes to show these guys are the consumate bar band... too bad it costs a billion dollars to take it on tour...
@keef186 You got a point, I got carried away generalizing. Specially since I've been rediscovering the Exile album and was on that frameset of musicianship. Let's not forget the context of this video: rehearsal.

Well, you're in the majority here.
Hooo yeah that nasty sax!! Mama loves her some nasty sax!
Lol
Sophie Katt Badass Bobby Keys the best!
kick in the distortion!
thanks. yes, I meant the Sticky Fingers album.
This is the best live version of this song I can find....
Who is it that is knocking according to the rolling stones?
+Frumples8 some asshole...
Stones talent is so unbelievable and Lisa Fischer is too, too, way too, sexy, in addition to her
fantastic vocals
Bobby Keys .....right on the money each time just the right amount of gravel
God bless KEITH!
Mick sounds good
Their only playin at 40% and its 100% rock n roll still
Keith Richards looks so old! But he still rocks to my liking better than the vast majority of my generation.
Oh wow one of the old beach boys is in their band now!
he sang sail on sailor

i would love to be a fly on that wall
God, these guys look loaded....
4 people Can't Hear Them Knocking
@Sharky165 You make a good point. They are one of the best antidotes to Miley, Jonas etc. and live they still deliver but I think a band with such an important legacy and were once a genuine threat to the British establishment, and set the template for rebellious rocknroll have been creatively dead since the late 70's and have sadaly become a parody of themselves.

Nope nope nope nope.. Not without Mick Fucking Taylor!!!!
Keef is the boss...
All these years later and Ron Wood is still in so far over his head trying play this Taylor Masterpiece
@bradkava I disagree. Yes, Taylor is/was awesome. But Ron's got some sweet licks too.
they seem very tired here. probably a killer schedule.
Webster's Dictionary should simply define, Cool: Keith Richards
@cgraber I was thinking about Daryl and Lisa, to be specific. I totally agree on the riff argument of yours. That would be boring as hell and folks like Santana, Gary Moore, SRV would have never as good or interesting if they only repeated themselves.
steengoed!!!!::bloodyhellgood
kommt mir bekant vor
haha I think charlie has an admirer at 5.06
que falta hace mick taylor !!
