I am 67 years old and take no medication at all. Yes, other than arthritis, I feel better than I have when I was taking prescriptions. When I was going to a doctor who wanted to give me a prescription, I asked him what it was for, what are side effects and how long has it been on the market. If he can't answer my questions, I do not take. I ask for alternatives but have found most of the time the doctor is not willing to give alternatives. I thank him when I leave, stop at the front desk and tell them not to call the prescription into pharmacy as I will not be interested in it. Leaves them stunned. Only once has doctor ever called me to question why. Thanks, Dr. for verifying what I feel, too.

Good luck getting answers to these questions. Most of the doctors are clueless. What's more, every person is different. Some drugs will work fine for some people and send others to the ER. Every drug that you get with prescription or without will come with some bad side effect, no exceptions. Same thing with vitamins. Nothing comes without the price. The more you take the bigger your chance of getting in trouble. Most people in other countries take no daily medication, and live longer. Decision is yours... and yours only. Do you want to keep taking drugs that don't cure anything, or change your life style and be rid of them?

I’m trying to get off the few meds I’m on, little by little. I’ve noticed a trend wherein the doctor will try to replace the med being removed with another one. Example: Plaquenil. Doctor wants me on it and I refused. She said it’s the “safest” one. Uh, it can cause permanent eye damage! No colonoscopies or mammograms anymore. I have a standing order for a Dexascan…not sure if I should at least get a baseline. I don’t want the radiation.

And even more sadly, most old people (and I live in a retirement village of around 350 people) seem to LOVE getting medications. They like to tell everyone just how many tablets they are taking, as some kind of badge of honour. Sadly until people realise that most of them do as much harm as good, they won't ask any questions.

She wasn’t happy that I turned it down when I told her that I don’t want more chemicals in my body. I also refused a shot for pain that would have to be given by a “pain doctor” which means adding yet another “specialist” which I don’t want. I said that once I’m moving around the aches go away and I don’t want pain meds. 😣 I left there really disliking doctors even more, if that was possible. I truly believe that I can tweak what my body needs naturally and cure things with a proper diet which I’ve been working my way into.

As a person gets older the body becomes more sensitive to medications..
1)Will this medicine make me drowsy?
Very very common. At the age of 65 various factors can come into play like cognitive impairment at baseline or an increased risk of more cognitive impairment with medications that induce drowsiness like meds for pain, neuropathy, nerve pain like Gabapentin Neurontin or meds with anticholinergic side effects.
    2) How will this medicine affect my blood pressure and pulse?
You want you be careful with any number of meds which affects blood pressure and pulse.
This is especially important if it's prescibed for a cardiovascular issue or steroids. A lot of meds will decrease the heart rate which can contribute to letargy, tiredness or even passing out.
3)Will it cause electrolyte deficiencies? Do you suggest any supplements to take with this medicine or take any additional precautions?
It's a phenomenon that can be seen all the time. Specifically sodium, potassium or magnesium. It's especially important when prescribing certain meds including diuretic meds or certain blood pressure meds. (The doctor is not a fan of hydrochlorizide especially in people over 65 causing hypokalemia).
    4) How will this medication interact with any medications or supplements I take?
5)What is the side effect or adverse event that YOU've seen the most, doctor, with this particular prescription? What time of the day do most of your patients take this med?
Can you tell me if there are alternatives to this med in your opinion?

Here in the UK still being pestered by my surgery for the booster (never had any scamdemic jab), and just had a text to book an appointment for statin prescription. Why I don't know as my last test showed my cholesterol as 4.1.
Had bowel cancer 20 years ago, right hemicolectomy with no other medication needed as they caught it early (real doctors). Only side effect was put on amlodipine for high blood pressure. Result. atrial fibrillation and possible liver problems as contra indications for amlodipine.
Now on anti-coagulant and have stopped taking amlodipine as the combination dropped my blood pressure dangerously low. Guess I must tell my doctor at some point. Another side effect of amlodipine is bleeding gums. Since I stopped taking it my gums have stopped bleeding.
Blood thinner is Eliquis, I will take nothing else. I have been prescribed Eliquis because of atrial fibrillation and a leaky heart valve. Wouldn't be surprised to find that the leaky heart valve is another side effect of amlodipine.
UK medical practice seems to be 20 years behind the rest of Europe which would also account for our cancer survival rates being one of the lowest in Europe. Now aged 77 and still playing garden badminton with grandchildren.
I will add an addendum here that I only eat real food, home cooked and have stopped using vegetable oils and manufactured food and cook with animal fats, olive oil and plenty of spices including turmeric.
