For a house that's 100 years old I think they did a good job of renovating it. I don't care for some of their design choices, but the bones are good. The location especially next to a business, along with a high price are probably the biggest negatives. A suggestion would be to provide a short on updates of these houses. What did you hear back from the agents or if they did sell and at what price. Also, having some comps or avg house prices for the area would help us determine if the house is overpriced or not.
Hello Mr. Jonathan! My husband and I enjoy your reviews! We agreed with everything you said about this house. The island was not well placed and the finishes for the bathrooms were not good. There’s a lot of room for improvement with this house. 😅Keep up the good work!
The driveway is an issue because it leaves an unspoken invitation to use it anytime by passing vehicles. I can imagine some using it to get to the next road. Looks nice overall but needs rearrangements like the kitchen area and fixes like the brown spots, cracking in the basement etc. It seems there's a deeper issue going on within the structure that needs to be addressed. $1.1 MIL no way.
This home is priced approximately $400,000 higher than other homes in the neighborhood. Even with an additional $400,000 in improvements, its value would still be around $700,000 due to the location. In some areas, this house would be even less, perhaps $300,000 - $500,000. However, in prime locations in the DC area or other cities in the US, it could be valued in the millions. It’s all about comparable homes in the area.
New subscriber. I’ve been watching your videos and have really enjoyed them. Sometimes, at the end of your videos you say that you are going to reach out to the listing agent with your questions. 23:49 Have you ever thought of doing updates? Like answers to the questions you posed, depending on how fast you post, if and when the house sold. I am really curious about the end result, especially for the odd houses. Thanks
The closets on the second level is the original home witch was bungalow style. The third level was an addition that's why that closet is bigger than the others.
Triple negative before you go in the house; a busy street, a business next door, and it looks like gaps at house's foundation on driveway side asking for water to come in. Who wants to pay that kind of money and live next door to a business that might close, have turn overs or sit vacant? They might want to think about renting it out.
There is not enough space in the dining/kitchen area. The island has no sitting space. I live in an older settled home and can see serious issues that haven't been corrected. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy your presentation .
Thanks for showing this home. I live in the area and wondered about this home. Wrong type of island, tile is too busy and closets are too small for a million dollar home. Not sure why they think all of those tile mediums look good together. Deep veined marble and pebbles and penny tiles and star burst. Yikes! Way too much!
These ppl are so greedy and tacky, they have completely gutted and ruined that home. Why keep trying to take homes that were never meant to be million dollar builds and throw cheap materials and a bunch of small rooms inside of them. I hope no one is silly enough to buy this home, it’s not even in a million dollar area 😂
Very interesting. I’m learning a lot from your videos. Was there a garage? The price would make me pause for sure. It seems a million is a starter price these days. Thanks again for another great showing❤
This is a prime example of what happens when people purchase an old home, and rather than keep the original features and character like beautiful woodwork and floors, you gut it and try to make it look like a new build and try to charge new build prices. That area doesn’t even look like a million dollar area of town. Old homes shift and move, had they kept the original character, people can be forgiving, but again, you made it look like a new HGTV build inside. If I want a look like that, and to pay 1.1 million, ain’t no way I want no 100+ year old house. Flippers just see dollar signs and ignore the important details.
Hi Jonathan, thanks for the tour. Blessings to you and your family ❤ I would not buy this house for that asking price. It doesn’t appear to have been renovated by experienced professionals. And seeing all those obvious problem areas and lack of thoughtful planning was hurting my eyes 😂
Love your content Mr Jonathan, most homes that you have shown I would take 😂 if only I had some extra funds 😅. However one day my daughter, granddaughter and I will be home owners, my 25 year old daughter has already started the process, now we just need money (extra money in the bank). But thank you and one day we may be reaching out to you for your advice/ expertise. We are in Baltimore city right now but definitely interested in county living. God bless. 🙏
The remodelers did some quirky things in this house, i.e. that misplaced island, the eye confusing tile work, etc. But it's a great space for a large family.
The kitchen island should've had a hangover countertop and set up against the wall between the dining area or something. Would've made it and the layout more functional.
I’m a landlord. The house is nice but what people want are bigger closed s and a quiet neighborhood. It’s not always about what the house looks like. The neighborhood is more important.
Maybe as an Air B&B short term rental. Patterns specific to taste..... One could use the island as a buffet for serving during a stay there. I could see setting up food and drinks there so everyone would be out of the way and not in the kitchen.
4:53 They should have just created a peninsula with seating that started at the wall and ended with a walkway in between the support column. 🤔 I think the tile in the bathrooms is too specific to the rehaber's taste.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 In all honesty, I'm a subscriber to hear your comments and look at your reaction when showing most of the homes. Especially when there's a "WHAT IS GOING ON". The house has some kind of disease. You are hilarious!!!
This house is a big fat No. The bathrooms are too busy. My head is spinning. Shocked by that asking price. No Way. Look forward to your next review. You keep me laughing. But you've opened my eyes on what to do & look for in my own home on renovations. I subscribed & following you since you started. ❤
Those spots on the ceiling (1:59)might have come from a patient who missed their dental appointment (0:31) and channeled their frustration at the house.😏🤣🤓
Hhhhhhmmmm, that looks like the area where a lot of gentrification is happening [Michigan St, NE/N Capitol St]. The road can be VERY busy, especially during on school days/Universities (Catholic and Tritiny Colleges) hours. They did a good job with blocking out the road noise. Yeah, you're correct about that island-just WEIRD! THAT area USED to be sus. Ijs...🤪 Thanks for taking us along.
That island is In the damm way..lol..among some other minor details with the bathrooms ..ur absolutely right Johnathan..but it has promise..the price is reasonable..in my opinion..OH!!..THIS HOUSE SHOULD HAVE A GARAGE...with all that room in the back 🤷🏾♂️🙄
They took away all the character. The renovation wasn’t a good one. Don’t like having a clinic next door. And I agree with the fence in be front yard. Thanks Jonathan. Would it be possible for you to check back on some of the other houses you looked at to see if they sold?
They stripped away the architectural details and created a white box. You're absolutely right, the bathroom tiles are clashing. They missed the opportunity of more seating by putting in an island that doesn't seat. Closet space is too small and the staging looks random. There's no warmth in the entire house , the flooring can't couldn't tone down the coldness. The busy street plus the dental office is going to be a deterrent. I'm not surprised the house has been on the market for a year. Whatever happened to walk throughs after a house renovation? They might get the house sold if the inside issues are resolved, there's nothing they can do about the outside except get a fence that connects. Last but not least the brown spots on the exterior and interior of the house needs to be resolved. The only way this house might get sold "as is" would be if there's a big price drop.
It’s definitely giving a new flipper did this took too long to do it spent too much money skimped on details and luxury upgrades and now selling it for more than what people are willing to pay to cover all the over spending and carrying cost
That tile work looks like a handyman did it. They’re not laid evenly, and that shower with the caulk is a leak waiting to happen. Combine that with all the woodwork that wasn’t primed, so all the knots are bleeding through, makes this a Home Depot flip that’s gonna be an expensive house to correct.
I believe the purpose for the island is strictly for entertaining purposes.. Some may find it convenient but a big no for me. I would prefer a larger living space for the living/Dinningroom area. Other than that.. it’s a beautiful home.
That island is not only useless, it's an impediment. The lower level is either a game/rec/family room or could be rented as a studio - maybe for the grandparents? And that massive crack is not something to be hidden by caulk - it IS a structural issue. As my dude Trey would say - "that ain't right." This looks like a job by flippers who hired day laborers at Home Depot.
When developers or flippers upgrade an historic house (to me 1921 is historic) they make some major changes and compromises. Closet space is always an issue because older homes did not have the closet space that modern new builds have. You were focused a lot on the tiling and I thought that was one of the better things about the home. All the tiles were neutral (white, black, grey) and they made some nice choices with patterns. May be there is an issue with the installation and the grout work but hard to see on the video. I would have spent more time on the curb appeal and making the front yard welcoming and inviting. Also, location is an issue as it's right next door to a medical clinic so that means a lot of people coming and going, perhaps parking on the block is difficult during clinic hours. And yes, for a $1M home the staging could have been better. Maybe the dining room solution is a round table?
Some of the renovations are nice but it's like they didn't know where to stop. That odd island is just crazy. I feel like there might be issues with this house under some of these renovations. The price is too high, too.
That house was a mess all on its own! Add a busy street, high selling price, random ppl walking up and down the street, a broken fence, and next to a dental office... this house is doomed! They need to drop the price to account for all that. I live in Hampton Roads and i think that about is outrageous price, but it is DC. i could get a mansion here for $1.1M... maybe they should drop to $800k. The finishes are giving the GC got all these tile and finishes on sale and wanted to use it all up.
The powder room tile is not my taste. Also, I like the kitchen island to place all of the food that has been prepared. It can be great for buffet style meals.
The spots on the wood tells me there's a water/moisture issue or did they use "diseased" wood. It's Woodridge, yet something else is going on with the house. Too busy.... dentist & busy street.
If the other comments are correct and they tried to put a million dollar house in a neighborhood with comps maxing at 700 ... that was another rookie flipper mistake. They should've converted the property into a two flat and rented it. It probably would have worked out well because there's a separate entrance to the ground level.
Firstly, I do agree with everyone in the comment and you about the issues of this house. But, asking 1.1 Million for this house with lackluster finishes is quite questionable. Also, the isolated island does not seem practical to me and needs to be taken out.
Why do some builder/renovators cut so many corners while asking over a million dollars for their properties???? How much does it cost to completely fence a yard???? To purchase a mold-resistant paint???? ...and so on...
Jonathan, yes it might be the details but it’s also the price. Issues aside, this house is not worth 1 mil. Are there comps in the neighborhood to justify that price? Where do these developers get off trying to sell a lot of these homes for over a million dollars. They tried to do that in my neighborhood with a home that is two doors down from me (I live in DC) with a single family home they redeveloped. It’s been on the market for at least 6 months. In that time, they have dropped the price 150K. I’m wondering if they will ever sell it.
I wish you would quit talking about homes that don't have a foyer , as though they are a disabled home. A lot of older smaller homes do not have foyers. 😢
There’s no continuity at all… it looks as if it’s 4 different apartments made into one house and each person had their own thoughts on design. Execution really stunk, too.
Hi Jonathan! My husband and I love your channel but please make sure you show us all the rooms and closets. I think you also forgot to show everything in the basement. This house is a big NO for us for all the reasons covered in the video.
No way I’m living next to a dentist or any other retail space. Nice door on the wrong house. They absolutely forced that island and it’s NOT in the kitchen which makes it odd, very odd. The island is just in the way for no good reason. It can’t be used for seating, why is it there? Glass front appliances beyond the oven is begging for something to happen to crack the appliance glass. My stainless steel refrigerator has a dent, can’t imagine that being glass when that impact occurred. I like the tile patterns individually. It looks like someone used all their favorite patterns at once. Making for overly busy powder and bathroom decor. The bad grouting can be corrected. All the floor and decor showrooms have similar tiled bathrooms. Take a look, because that’s the style and trend. The basement level looks great and yes, that gap at the ceiling looks bad and the house definitely moved, but when and was the crack there before the basement was finished or after? The structure itself may be covering utilities, plumbing or duct work since it’s the ground floor. The exterior door isn’t plumb or square causing the door to stick, another indication of settling. Older homes did not consider closet space and it shows. Overall, I really like the house despite its quirks. It could definitely be used to generate income but 1.1m is a big bite and for that much loot, the kitchen needs to be fabulous and it’s not. The entire first floor killed any interest I would have in buying. The living/dining/kitchen room mashup is a non starter at 1.1m for me.
I dont mind the bathroom designs and tile ( except for the grout issues). The dinky closets, no laundry room, the poorly designed kichen with that huge out of place island is all wrong. Would have been better to ditch the island and to extend cabinets and counter space (up to the column?) Instead. Could have been used for storage or even a serving area Someone maybe didn't do a proper walk through to clean up those one off issues. I see why it hasn't sold.
Did you ask why hasnt this sold? Lordttttt these bathrooms are horrible, the Kitchen is very small and that weird island makes no sense and the craftmanship is janky and what is that clinic next door. This is a hard pass. STOP 1.1 are you kidding me? Noooo way it must be priced wellllll under a mil. Wow the seller is delulu
On a main street that is busy in DC with no perimeter or privacy? I couldn’t see a family moving in there with kids. It should also come standard with a security system and the roll down garage entry for the back. The island is weird. The finishes in the bathrooms aren’t offensive, but they look cheap for 1.1 million. That area isn’t ready for those prices yet. No one wants to be first, especially with a poorly executed design. If they had separately metered the lower unit, it would be a maybe. Those spots look like mold, that with the gaps? Too risky for my taste, you get better options in the DMV for those numbers without coming in doing work. If I held it, I would have proof of remediation. They must have gotten the property for a steal to not lower the price and not even bother with the small details (it’s insulting).
They need to go back and erase that $1 million dollar price tag. This house looks like a first time house flipper did it. It literally looks like a row of businesses and they decided to "try" and turn this business into a house for a quick sale. I'll take no for $300 Alex.😅😅😅😅😅😅
This house is trying to tick a whole bunch of boxes randomly, without grounding them in purpose. They are details without utility or coherence. That black fence out front is really cheap anyway, and then they added that silly little border fence so the realtor could show her sign? That out-of-proportion kitchen island chews up space that's needed in the living areas; you can't even really sit at it, for a conversation, or have kids doing homework at it, because it's too far from where you need to prep. We need your son to hop in that tub to check the scale: that was a classic moment in your other video. Those paint spots are the knots showing through; they were too skimpy with the paint. A lot about this house is cheap cosmetics: don't trust the renovation at all. There's a weird waste of space at the bottom of the stairs on the first floor. You can't hear the traffic inside the house....that's good. NO on the price. Waaaay off. The finishings are all inexpensive: consider the doors (they're super-budget).
It looks like the work of an inexperienced flipper. They missed an opportunity to reconfigure the sitting space in the main bedroom into a walk in closet. The design choices were bad. It looks like they used whatever tile was on clearance. The kitchen layout was weird... they should've built a peninsula instead. Sloppy furniture makes you question what else they cut corners on. Overall the house needs help.
As an investor myself, I feel like your videos are not helping the property to sell. You’re pointing out the flaws. Hopefully before you record someone investment, you reach out to them and make some suggestions. Some people put their life savings up to invest.
Oh, no. I knew when I saw that silly island, and it sure didn't get any better.
Hello Mr.

NOPE! Nope, Nope, no…
I honestly have a problem with a dental office next door. Absolutely not.
Yup, and that busy road
EXACTLY!
Agreed. Living next door to a place of business feels weird
And I wonder if those spot on the front of the fresh paint or under the fresh paint is mold. Makes one wonder, hint hint 😆
Love that you take your shoes off 😊
Respect👍🏿
The closets on the second level is the original home witch was bungalow style. The third level was an addition that's why that closet is bigger than the others.
$1.1 for those crazy bathroom finishes? And that island in the middle of the floor is suspect. What are they hiding?
Re-watching this video on this home. Your assessment
of the house is pretty much spot on. As always, excellent work. I'm glad I subscribed.
The island should 15:22 be replaced by a floor to ceiling pantry for storage. The finishes and overall design is not well planned.
Triple negative before you go in the house; a busy street, a business next door, and it looks like gaps at house's foundation on driveway side asking for water to come in. Hi Mr. JOHNATHAN, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. PLEASE KEEP GIVING US TOURS. 😀
I'll be kind and say, I can't wait for your next discovery. My favorite is that looooong gray house with the swimming pool in the middle of it!

Love your videos - Txs.

Agree with you completely. Details, details! Price ok given the rental space. Not as pretty as it could have been.

those are water stains outside around the porch and on the staircase banister landing going to the 3rd floor
For a small house in the city, it has great potential. But the details and settling issues are preventing the sale. Other than that, I like it.
The fence, the island and that crazy tile is a no. The backyard doesn’t seem secure and as others said the business next door would drive me crazy.
I believe the purpose for the island is strictly for entertaining purposes.. Some may find it convenient but a big no for me. I would prefer a larger living space for the living/Dinningroom area. Other than that.. it’s a beautiful home.

Agent name was seen.
Molly Branson 😊
Are those filters in the second floor bathroom ? How do you replace them? And I wouldn't want them exposed like that.
That was a sink faucet for the tub upstairs! This home could not have been inspected.
All that mix match tile look like they just yanked whatever was in the discount then.
And the kitchen island should be in the kitchen....
Some of the renovations are nice but it's like they didn't know where to stop. That odd island is just crazy. I feel like there might be issues with this house under some of these renovations. The price is too high, too.
I take it back, I don’t want this house, what you pointed out is awesome and I know for sure it’s more problems. 😢
That house was a mess all on its own! Add a busy street, high selling price, random ppl walking up and down the street, a broken fence, and next to a dental office... this house is doomed! Not enough dark colors to justify that black trim in the bathrooms. Tiles are nice though. This will sell, just needs the right buyer.

Wasn’t this a church? Or is the church next to it, with the lions on the fences. I think I know this location, off of Rhode Island, near metro.
😢
What is the MLS?
Multiple Listing Service. It’s used by real estate agents to list properties for sale.
Hello, new subscriber here..would it be ok to tell us exactly where the houses are located that you show?
Rhode Island Avenue NE
@LGKX4 thank you I think I have an idea
There’s no continuity at all… it looks as if it’s 4 different apartments made into one house and each person had their own thoughts on design. Execution really stunk, too.
Hi Jonathan! My husband and I love your channel but please make sure you show us all the rooms and closets. I think you also forgot to show everything in the basement.
This house is a big NO for us for all the reasons covered in the video.
$1.1 million for that? Nope. Closet space and that odd island in the kitchen is a hard no.
noise. you cant even sit in the backyard with all that noise and they are building an apartment complex across the street? Nah J
Nice house ... but the island is a big turn-off
Johnathan, who designed this house, were they High?🤷🤦🤔
Slow down. Establish a routine. Right to left or left to right.
Nope. It looks cold.
"This house is totally wack! 😂 I wouldn't be surprised if it sits on the market for a while. The layout/design just isn't it!"
I think this would have shown better unfurnished.
1.1m hmmm knowing the area not surprised but it's not worth it.
Unfortunately, it looks like they kinda quickly threw the house together. If I would purchase, I would renovate. At a million, it's not worth it.
Nah, that street is way too busy
They need to go back and erase that $1 million dollar price tag. This house looks like a first time house flipper did it. It literally looks like a row of businesses and they decided to "try" and turn this business into a house for a quick sale. I'll take no for $300 Alex.😅😅😅😅😅😅
The layout is odd and the design choices especially in the bathrooms are terrible. It’s a hard pass for me.
HEY
Shoddy workmanship
As an investor myself, I feel like your videos are not helping the property to sell. You’re pointing out the flaws. Hopefully before you record someone investment, you reach out to them and make some suggestions. Some people put their life savings up to invest.
This is what happens when contractors try to be designers. A hot mess. I would not buy this house.
The house is not renovated very well. Along with being next to a business and a busy road.
A million plus?!?! No sir! Not quality work.
