They're asking twice what it's worth. No laundry room? Did I miss something? Bedrooms are small for the asking price. The tile was busy work instead of taking the time to vein match them. No laundry downstairs and no stove or exhaust for a stove down there. It's a rowhome masquerading as a townhouse LOL. Drop the price and let the chips fall where they fall.
What is happening with the microwave now being so low in these newer flipped houses, it is just weird. Who wants to bend down to warm food up? SMH🤦🏾♀️. The comments have said the rest.
I agree with most of the comments. The price for this sweet but tiny rowhome is quite a bit much!! Too late to redo, so maybe staging Might give it hope..😑. And who wants to live in a million dollar home but have to sit in a laundromat every Saturday?????????
Small rooms, connected to someone else, small backyard, at the price they're looking for just to say you live in the city. Thats why a lot of us just said F it and went to PG and Charles co.
I've lived in D.C. for the past 40+ years. Watched the ebb and flow of things. NO shade to the many law-abiding folks that live in the neighborhood, but, why is it still on the market? Location, location, location! Contrary to what the politicians and media are reporting, unfortunately, this area of DC is experiencing an "uptick" in crime, specifically arm robbery and auto theft. Essentially, you can't disguise something bad as something good, no matter how much effort, i.e. $$$ and renovations, you put in. Lesson? Do your own thorough research before you buy.
@@hejiranyc Don't misunderstand, it's not the neighborhood demographics because these type of crimes are happening in all neighborhoods in D.C. regardless of social economic status, race, etc. However, some neighborhoods are experiencing a severe increase in crime. Unfortunately, Petworth is one of the neighborhoods.
It seems to me that the investors were trying to save money where they can, and it left the home feeling disjointed and incomplete. For example, the 3 different tiles in the basement bathroom look cluttered- as if they were just trying to offload tile from other projects lol.
I know DC can be pricey but 1 mil is crazy. 4 br is a stretch. Those 2 upstairs brs that aren't the main are way to small. Living area is small and no washer and dryer hookups. Renovators didn't use the space they had to work with very good
The finishes are cheap, to be at a million. The rooms are too small, and the layout was not thought through. They should have done a complete gut and reframed the layout, and they could have asked for a million. From the looks of the place 450k is the max.
Yes, the layout is weird, but you have to consider the time period the home was built. Some people lack imagination. One of the ways the house could sell is actually staging the home with furniture that compliments the look of the house altogether. I liked the basement, but that shower was a hot mess as far as height. Throw some colorful artwork on the walls, some nice furniture throughout, and it may show people this home's potential. In the meantime, that price is way too high for the size of the rooms.
You have to decide whether you want a laundry room or a tenant, because apparently you can't have both. Also, I'm okay with Petworth, but this house is not close to anything good. DC is a pretty walkable city, but in this part of town you are absolutely going to have to drive EVERYWHERE. It's a 30 min walk to the Metro (green line at Georgia Ave or Fort Totten), the nearest grocery store, or Rock Creek Park.
I think people are waking up and realizing that quality of life is more than living in a city overpriced, cramped, and crime-ridden. The price would have to reflect the amenities you're giving up and piece of mind.
This makes me want to gut my house. I have 1,620 square ft. 3 bedrooms and 1 and a 1/2 bath a basic powder room. I want to add a bathroom to the master bedroom. I have a basement but it doesn't have the additional exit. That's where the laundry room is. I have a deck out back and a swim spa and enough space to host atleast 30 people. My home is only valued at 140,000. I have purchased a new furnace, new hot water tank, new full house air-conditioning unit. New hardwood floors, paint job you know basic upkeep. How on God's green earth can they ask for over a million dollars for that house. Neighborhood be damned.
@dubreil07 You the weirdo dummy. The population is increasing in general around the states. When you look at who's moving in and who's moving out hoods are facing gentrification. Which means rich are buying up more property which keeps the prices high. However more poor or medium income people are leaving! Your the internet weirdo for getting on here and stating BS you obviously don't know anything about and calling other people weirdos. Only a dummy has time for that.
It's definitely the price. They over developed and thought buyers would ignore small bedrooms/crazy layout. I know not all houses can have a foyer but even with the open concept the kitchen is too small for a family and that first bathroom has a sink that a barbie doll can barely fit into. The developers also overlooked how few people would be interested in a shower made for a short person (over relied on possible rental income). Can't even be marketed as an in-law suite because they have to be mobile to get down the stairs. This may be a good entry to ownership house for a young couple but the current price is still too high.
First of all, this is not a bad property. What caught my eye when you enter the house into the living room was that door next to the fireplace. it led to a lot of questions. Secondly the title and floor pattern in the powder room (4:08) had visible gaps that should have been sealed. finally, the basement shower need to be extended to give room for the shower head and the user.
It's DC so I'm not gonna even blink at the price but I didn't see a washer dryer. Or any closet on the 1st floor at all. The layout is weird. The tiny room upstairs could be an office. Whoever moves in will probably end up doing their own changes to make it more accommodating. If you're shopping, might as well just look for a place that doesn't require any extra work. And if they are advertising it as new construction, well I would run from the developer. Who knows what else they are covering up.
Nice floors. I don’t like the microwave so close to the floor, I know some do. Apartment size electric stove is a No. Nice refrigerator, nice backyard. After turning on the water in upstairs bathroom, I was waiting for slashing water from flushing toilet 🚽😆😆 I like the setup of master bathroom. Todays homes are over-priced. This home is a prime example. No, I would not purchase this home
You didn’t say exactly how long it’s been on the market. The floor plan seems off thru out the entire house. Where was the washer and dryer? Room at the bottom of the basement stairs is an office or bonus room - see those a lot in DC. The tiny powder room sink is a no. None of the bathrooms are exciting. The Kitchen is ok.
five bedroom house it is, I love it. yes I would buy this property. as far a closet space I could add a closet. and or use my basement for entertainment. tv room. That is the problem is the PRICE.. its over priced, what are the other properties selling for, as far as the decor, well it can be changed out.... the property is over priced 389K YES IS FAIR. GREED NEVER SELL ONLY IF AN INVESTOR IS LOOKING
The entrance to the basement from the first floor is very small. Looks like about 27", if it's that big. You won't be able to get a large washer & or dryer down the stairs.
It's definitely the oddball layout and proportions, vs. the price. Staging may help with some of that. It's been "updated," but it seems like the plan was half baked in many ways. That one tiny bedroom may as well be a closet or office. The basement shower looks like someone's concept overuled sense, and where was the laundry room again? The best part to me was the yard. It's just not worth that price, in that location, to feel like you have to either compromise or make major improvements to a century old rowhouse that was just remodeled.
Thanks Jonathan for this informative tour. I think aside from the price, the safety of exiting the house is critical. I also didn't really like the busy tiling they used. The rooms are really small and I think unless it's a couple with a small child this would not work. I don't see having a guest room, or space for others, and last but not least TOOOO many steps for me. LOL
I would use this as a rental, wouldn't want it as a primary home. The master bathroom looks masculine. It's better than the upstairs hall bathroom to me because the chevron clashed with the floor. I'd make the smallest upstairs bedroom an office and the 1st room in the basement a living room.
The house looked disjointed from the outside and it is! That crime scene tile in the primary bathroom would be a deal breaker, it’s not something reasonably easy to change. The room sizes aren’t a problem depending on how you live, it would be easy to manage my household in.
The only thing I like about the house were the bathrooms. The closet spaces were too small (probably to match the small bedrooms😂). Cooking without gas is a deal breaker for me and I also don't like having the microwave in the island. If the spaces were larger , the angles would give character being that it isn't the angles are going to make furniture placement difficult. The basement is a good source of income but the negatives are too much to consider buying. Also a million dollar plus house without any laundry room is a mistake. This house is a definite NO! 😂
It’s priced too high for the features. Major downside is the lack of closet and storage spaces. The size is typical for DC but you can get a better layout in a craftsman type house at that price.
It’s not the tile it’s just there’s too much of that big pattern in that small space the wall should be white that would make it feel bigger and still have some style and design
It's unfortunate that the owners invested so much money into this house… not sure if they will see a return on their investment. It seems like the renovation plans were not well thought out. The small rooms, poor floor layout, and basement issues are significant drawbacks. I think they tried to push things that look good on paper, but not necessarily in person.
You know J/M This house from the exterior gives the illusion that the inside is modern/contemporary looking as well...but hum🤔not saying the inside is a little dated looking...but compared to the outside of the house 😆yeah! It's dated looking.
The basement could be a private 1 bedroom apartment. The room with small windows could be the living room.. the middle room could be kitchen and dining. The house isn't too bad for having only 1600 sq ft upstairs.
I LOVE this house. Every inch. Home-y community, too. This is especially nice in the era of conspicuous consumption in DC, which, IMO is GROSS, and brings to mind everything that is wrong with our economy, with a small number flagrantly consuming and partying, while the rest of us barely get by. Love that the living room is a bit above street grade: you can look out on life! Pretty exterior and color. Good fit in the neighborhood. Very tasteful. Love the bow windows. Beautiful proportions inside and out. They kept the original intent! Great design job. I wish more builders were this sensitive to renovating old houses. No attempt to be posh or fill the home with gimmicks. FAB. Clean construction: no noxious paint errors, botched tile....it's all very well done. That stove is PLENTY big enough, and it's energy efficient. I don't think people are doing a whole lot of cooking these days: they're eating out, and buying frozen pizzas. The house could use an extra fridge for vedgies. Pee pad outside for doggie: FAB. The ceiling lights are tiny because the better mode is simply to have local lighting at floor level. I never use my overheads, except in the bathroom. They are also LED's: energy efficient and bright for their size. Little bedrooms are ideal for toddlers and studies. So, you've got his-and-her work-at-home spaces. I like the tile in the bathrooms. The whole house is designed in a coordinated fashion without being matchy-matchy. From looking at windowsills, the exterior walls are thick: this is good for energy efficiency. No need for re-organizing walls to add insulation. The downstairs "basement" is where you stick the rowdy teenagers and isolate football games on TV. Worth every penny.
I thought DC called them Rowhouses as Townhouses were more of a suburban thing. Well, that's what my friend tells me and she's has lived in DC her entire life. 🤣 It'll sell I am sure.
@@jillymcneal5085 Again, I think I'm allowed to comment the way I like, just as you are commenting on my comment. If he hasn't complained, why are you? Not being mean, just really trying to understand why this is an issue for a stranger on the Internet. Have a nice day.
😂 Jonathan gonna tear up something 😂I’m enjoying though ❤ tiny lights night lights. Is there no laundry hook ups🤔hate knee level microwaves. They want over a million but there’s no laundry area not even the hook ups, yes I had to watch it twice. 👎
Each room is too small to put furniture. Plus, where does the washer/dryer go? And, the home is lacking storage/closet space. Especially since there really aren't that many cabinets in the kitchen
No dining room nor breakfast nook , the refrigerator should be on the other wall take out the island put cabinets in the sink on the other wall with refrigerator if you must have an island and a place this small make it a small one, the furnace need to be in the basement .
The basement: that one area could be a Living/sitting/TV room... It's nice BUT... it would sell if they dropped the price to around 500k-650k. I don't see it moving with small rooms. And the tiling is way to personalized.
I like all the windows but the layout is very choppy and there doesn’t seem to be a natural flow. Getting furniture in there will be a nightmare. Didn’t like the parking pad either
IMO, the neighborhood does not look good. $1.5 million in that neighborhood would stand out, and the buyer might take a big loss when they want to sell. The upgrades are nice. I believe staging would help sell it. Where is the washer/dryer located?
No laundry area on the 2nd floor is a deal breaker. Anyone with children or contemplating children definitely needs a laundry room. Anyone looking at the property knew before they looked that it had stairs so that's not an issue. Since they used the original footprint the stairways are definitely to narrow and claustrophobic. For the price I would expect the 2nd floor to be reworked versus just updating the original plan. A rework of the second floor may have allowed for a laundry space. I would have loved the addition of a 3rd floor to create a massive master bedroom with bath. The 2nd floor would have 2 bedrooms with walk-in closets a bathroom and a laundry space. That basement area seems claustrophobic and the basement shower is pretty much useless. The setup implied that the basement can be used as a rental apartment versus family space or office. They put all their effort into going down versus going up. Finally for the price, I want more than generic home depot appliances in the kitchen.
They are overpriced. That’s why 👋🤔Paying 1 million for a home with no parking spaces, cramed up next to your neighbors with stick up kids roaming your neighborhood… if I was not already a native and had not been here all my life I would not move to this city … screw the money I would move to the country where there is land 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤔🤔🤔🤔 those tiny lights are called tea lights they’re supposed to be low mood lights so like if you’re having tea most of the time when you have tea lights you also have another set of lights however just in looking at this particular place it looks like cheap renovation work💁♂️🤔🤦♂️ I can’t see any inspector giving someone a permission to rent out that basement. It appears that it does not even meet spec!🤔
I don't know who decided that this style and color floor was the cookie cuttet style for most new renovations or in the south slab built houses they too are over priced. Staging may help but it's the attached factor and the fact on video It has no character its like an apartment with house features that are not angled right. Not aesthetically pleasing
I have a galley kitchen in my current home, and I dislike it due to,narrow spacing. Although pretty, the galley format makes the kitchen space seem very small. The island is too long for the space.
Starting from the bottom, retired architect here, basement is really not that usable, one room was acceptable as a living space, shower, not enough headroom, would be an uncomfortable shower, that room with no legal egress way less than .7 sqft and >44” A.F.F. Kitchen cook top looks small, maybe apartment size, lighting, wonky, rooms small, whom ever designed this homes layout missed several opportunities to make something special.
1- it is the price, too much for the size. I like that the basement is completed and would probably be more of the family hangout space because definitely not enough room on that first level & all the bedrooms are small. Maybe 600k on the price. What are the comps in the area.
The price and size of rooms is the problem. That living area is way too small for nice pieces. Everything else has already been said about what is wrong with the home. Someone flipped it and thought they were about to hit the jackpot with this one!
At times front door placement is changed to benefit from higher comps on the cross street. The address of the home is usually assigned based on the front door location. Pretty sure the county records will show the flippers changed the address of the home from where they front porch location is.
🙄I'm not sure about this area, or neighborhood In DC that this home is situated in; But this is super overpriced. It didn't have a finished kitchen, it didn't even have a laundry room, in the basement windows were not Egressed properly, especially in that semi-bedroom, in the basement area.😶🌫️ 🫥On top of that, all of the bedrooms were way too small at that price point. With a tiny backyard & front yard, the tiny room that they tried to make a bedroom would have made a nice laundry room, or just a simple office. I would have priced this house at no more than $475, they're asking for over double that amount. Even the furnace and water tanks were tiny for that entire house. It was ridiculously too high in price.😮 when you said one million🫣 I thought you were only joking, then, when you said they reduced it $49,000 🤨I knew they were just being greedy🤑😮💨 This is a flip house, they should have at least added a rooftop garden that would have made a huge difference. Had they done that they could have asked for more money.
This home has not sold because it is priced too high. Looks nice, but rooms are quite small. I might have missed it, but I did not see a washer/dryer hook up.
A milli can get you a wayyyy better home else where outside of DC. With a big yard and private parking. No wonder this is still available. People are getting smarter and not falling for these lack of privacy homes being overpriced.
I gotta be able to afford a million dollar house to live there? NOPE. that basement is insane. The middle bedroom upstairs is tiny. And walking right into the living room does not seem like a million dollar experience to me. but what do i know?
I see why it's been on the market for so long and yes that stove is small the box in the basement what was they thing Just throw the whole house away and start over
Wow!!1million and no washer dryer/ laundry facilities? It’s a hard no for me!
They're asking twice what it's worth. No laundry room? Did I miss something? Bedrooms are small for the asking price. The tile was busy work instead of taking the time to vein match them. They are meant to free up counter space.
It looks like they took all of the tile remnants to tile the short shower.
The whole place just looks like a generic flip.

I really don't like the layout. The kitchen and the bedrooms are too small.
8:02 hate that bathroom tile omg 😂😂
This is a lovely home. It simply needs to be staged & priced appropriately.
The layout is really confusing the living room. I believe this house would benefit from staging to help the potential buyer with the spaces
Price is one of the main issues, next to window safety hazards. Overall, it's not bad but it needs a lot more updates to justify the asking price.

The basement could be a private 1 bedroom apartment. The room with small windows could be the living room.. the middle room could be kitchen and dining. The house isn't too bad for having only 1600 sq ft upstairs.
I agree with you about the room. It also could be a media room /library or study.
Where would you put the laundry room?
Very well said but not worth 1million
This is Highway robbery.... The bedrooms suck and the lower level is not functional.
In DC this would be considered a "bargain."🙄🤣
I thought DC called them Rowhouses as Townhouses were more of a suburban thing. Well, that's what my friend tells me and she's has lived in DC her entire life. 🤣 It'll sell I am sure.
Why did you waste your time making a comment?
@ jillymcneal5085 I didn’t find it a waste, but it’s ok if you did.☺️ I thought we were allowed to do so. 🤔

He was asking for comments on the property.
Priced high, small bedrooms, lack of storage, no mud or laundry room shown, some of the bathroom finishes look like clearance items.
5:39 definitely not a full size stove 😂😂😂 told u the architect was a minimalist
Another thing. That paint is stored too close to the furnace & hot water heater & should be moved immediately
It's priced too high.
It looks cute but some things are not finctional
Each room is too small to put furniture. Plus, where does the washer/dryer go? And, the home is lacking storage/closet space. Especially since there really aren't that many cabinets in the kitchen
It's definitely the price. This home needs staging.
No dining room nor breakfast nook , the refrigerator
should be on the other wall take out the island put cabinets in the sink on the other wall with refrigerator if you must have an island and a place this small make it a small one, the furnace need to be in the basement .
Help me understand the difference in a rowhouse and a townhouse?
You might have gone past the washer/dryer upstairs. The price and the size of the bedrooms are a deterrent.
The basement: that one area could be a Living/sitting/TV room... It's nice BUT... it would sell if they dropped the price to around 500k-650k. I don't see it moving with small rooms. And the tiling is way to personalized.
The bedrooms are oddly shaped. Looks like it might be tricky to place the furniture.
Even before I watched the whole video, my instant answer to the question was ..."it must be the price they are asking for it"
I like all the windows but the layout is very choppy and there doesn’t seem to be a natural flow.
The price for this home is outrageous. The layout is crazy insanely too small.
The black/gold fixtures are a miss for me
The price & space fam
7:22 decent years space fa that part of DC 😂😂😂
I would pass. Not enough closet space. Bedrooms are small. The overall house is nice. I dont know the area but seems a bit pricey.
Oh hell no 😂. I'm not sure if half the price is right.
What street is this on?
1- it is the price, too much for the size. I like that the basement is completed and would probably be more of the family hangout space because definitely not enough room on that first level & all the bedrooms are small. Maybe 600k on the price. What are the comps in the area.
The price and size of rooms is the problem. That living area is way too small for nice pieces. Everything else has already been said about what is wrong with the home. Someone flipped it and thought they were about to hit the jackpot with this one!
Give the buyer ideas of how to use the space
I grew up in Petworth they are rowhouses not townhouses😊
Did they relocate the front door of the home during renovations? The energy is off on that first floor
It’s priced too high
It was ridiculously too high in price.😮 when you said one million🫣 I thought you were only joking, then, when you said they reduced it $49,000 🤨I knew they were just being greedy🤑😮💨
This is a flip house, they should have at least added a rooftop garden that would have made a huge difference. Had they done that they could have asked for more money.
The bedrooms are small and I don't like the ceiling lights
The tile selection in all of the bathrooms are bad. The bathrooms are small. The bedrooms are smalls and there’s a lack of storage.
This home has not sold because it is priced too high. Looks nice, but rooms are quite small. I might have missed it, but I did not see a washer/dryer hook up.
The layout is all wrong. Rooms to small and is priced way to high
I see why it's been on the market for so long and yes that stove is small the box in the basement what was they thing
Just throw the whole house away and start over
