Really appreciate getting to hear the click and cues. Thanks for sharing, Jay! Particularly as this tech is becoming attainable for smaller, touring bands, it's nice to see what the execution for a complex song entails.
Incredible drumming! You and them boys are something else ❤️ Love how you use a little man speaking the times for you. That guy has saved me many of times...
This is awesome. Despite learning the guitars for pretty much the whole album in the year following the release, all these IEM mix videos are showing how many time changes I was never aware of because the songs groove so hard.
That would be nice... but it probably won't happen. I was only having this conversation with a promoter friend last week who wanted to book Heights on a festival next year. Heights was a band that worked well when its members lived within ten minutes of each other and had free access to a rehearsal spot and recording studio. We no longer have any of those things haha
@@JayTesseracT that's really sad news!!! I know that you began working on new material but I guess you've put it aside? Heights was one of the best on its genre. Sad. Anyway I wish you and the other guys only the best.
Most of those are for the guitarists (the voice ones at least) and some of the seemingly random clicks - they signal specific changes those guys need to make. Gimme 4/4 for days please.
IEMs are Jerry Harvey somethings… the mix is coming to me direct from our sound engineer - and I think he’s using a Allan Heath something… sorry man, i don’t really get into all the techy stuff haha. Click is cubase
Jay, is the stick click (four count into the next section) at 1:57 heard by all members or is that just for your IEM feed? Never thought to add stick clicks into the backing tracks for individual IEM! What a cool idea.
There are a couple of different cue tracks - Dan has one that we can’t hear and the rest of us have the main metronome and cues. There’s a load in there that I don’t need by the guitarists do. The next stage would be to set up a separate cue track for the guitarists so that I can get rid of some of that rubbish from my ears as I don’t want to hear most of it 😂
Hello Jay, in case you (have time to) read the comments, can I ask what app you use to program the click track? Or anyone? Thanks for sharing this vid. 👍
The setup I’m playing at the moment is pretty close to the one we used for album 5, and I just kinda got used to not having that little splash up there. No real reason tbh
Because it sounds great. It was one of the original set suggested to my by Meinl, who looked at what I was using with Sabian and Troyes to find suitable similar sounds within their product range. The 20” Byzance Dark crash fit really nicely into my setup, tonally.
So here's a question that confuses me. If this is truly the mix in your ears, why is it mixed in audience perspective? I feel like as a drummer it'd be a little wonky hearing the floor tom and the china panned to my left ear, even thought it's physically on my right side. Can you shed some light on that? I'd be really interested to hear the reasoning. Thanks!
Man, you're definitely in your own world in there; you can barely hear any other instruments in your IEM mix. Doesn't this remove a lot of the enjoyment of playing in a real band setting?
This. I would NEVER be able to play with such a monitor mix! I bet they've played this sooo many times that it just comes automatically to each member ... Then again, that's why he's one of the best in the scene.
Naah, I have just enough of the other guys in my ears, and on stage there’s ambient PA audio too which comes through surprisingly clearly, I NEED to hear the drums clearly but the other stuff just needs to be lightly in there
@@sufddd But you do realize that his monitor mix isn't the only thing he hears, right? On stage, he gets the live sound on top of it all. The IEM needs to be mixed heavily in his favor so he can tell where he is in relation to the metronome, otherwise he wouldn't hear the metronome at all.
Tesseract and many other bands play live with absolutely no guitar amps onstage, it makes a great way to get an amazingly clear FOH mix. Yes very true that Jay can still hear residual sound from the stage. I recently seen Leprous in Nashville and Baards drumset was the only noise maker on the stage. Their sound was incredible.
Ah yes, the ghosts king is back.
this is fucking beautiful. 🔥 🙏🏽❤️
The time signature changes in this song are mental. You guys are beasts.
I agree, TOTALLY! I've tried this song, and it's not very easy, I must say. But it opens up my brain weirdly and I love it haha!
I read you guys are breasts😏but yeah I must agree they are some of the best at what they do
How to do all the time signatures in one song. Absolute masterpiece, technically, whilst also being a killer song. Incredible work all round!
And yet it remains perfectly fluid, impressive !
The mistery around 7:28 has been solved it's a 7/8 , Now i can finally cover the song and die in peace...
lol i wish that was the only obstacle between me and covering this song
Those bpm changing... absolutely killing
Nope it’s in 4/4 buts displaced
The BPM doesn't change, just goes from double time to regular time.
One of the best songs you guys have ever written, thank you for actually performing it live
TesseracT should headline everywhere!
I agree!
The stick sounds begins at 8:10 sounds weird to me but in the next part i understand why you used them, very brilliant!!!!
It blows my mind when drummers can speed up/slow down to a click track effortlessly. The drummer Car Bomb is another great example
Car Bomb doesn't play to a click live or in the studio. Fucking monster musicians.
@@SolipsisStudios what actually?!
Appreciate getting a glimpse "behind the scenes" from you guys. Stellar playing as always!
Es una cosa de locos! 😱
Fuck I forgot how good this song is. Absolute banger. Thanks for the insight on the time sigs, Jay!
I don’t think I’ve ever been blessed for the drummer of one of the best bands ever to have a RUclips channel like this… but here we are
Really appreciate getting to hear the click and cues. Thanks for sharing, Jay! Particularly as this tech is becoming attainable for smaller, touring bands, it's nice to see what the execution for a complex song entails.
Absolutely loved the set at Arctangent guys. I and everyone around me was blown away at the end. Nailed it. Can't wait for the next one.
Love the sound of your drums.... The king
Great sound, the mix make justice on how precise the hit in the snare is, got an exquisite tone also
Incredible drumming! You and them boys are something else ❤️
Love how you use a little man speaking the times for you. That guy has saved me many of times...
wow just so impressive and mesmerizing to watch and hear that click in action.
This was incredible, love seeing the IEM Mix vids
Fuck yeah Jay! Very well played in this vid and at ATG. You’re an inspiration!
Can't wait for you guys to smash Arctangent tonight
Uma inspiração, que banda maravilhosa.
I can finally count to tesseract!
This is amazing. Drums sound so good
this is one of my favorites songs of all time, thanks Jay!!
Hearing all the different parts of the click was so cool to hear! Might give playing along to this ago and see if I can manage it 😅
I can't wait to hear this song live! The wait have feel eternal XD
This is so long! So much strength
This is awesome. Despite learning the guitars for pretty much the whole album in the year following the release, all these IEM mix videos are showing how many time changes I was never aware of because the songs groove so hard.
Was awesome last night... hope all goes just as well in France today.
Love it! I really could watch these all day!! 👏👏👏
I have plenty more ready to go. Probably going to stagger them a little to rinse the algorithm 😎
@@JayTesseracT fantastic! I really appreciate being able to see the Metronome design for the outro! Looking forward to the rest 🙏

Love and light ✨
Dope drumming in a dope poncho what else could we want.
Crap drumming in a miniskirt?
never get bored of seeing u playing!
🤯🤯🤯🤯 amazing!!! Love watching these and hearing how you programmed your click track, V useful.
Love this album! Great job, guys!
Greatness
Amazing man
Love these videos! Jay you are a monster on drums!
Love hearing the click cues. Makes all of this make sense 😅
Great!
Candidate for one of the funkiest metal tracks out there.
Amazing play !
❤
So good 😍
It's quite hard to keep up with the the metronome and play all those complex arrangements.
This click would drive me insane. But, on the other hand I wouldn't be able to perform this in a million years hahaha. Great drumming!
💙🙏💎
Jay for president

7:25
First time I've ever heard time signatures vocalized! Can't ignore the weird ass man in your ear.
7:28 lmao
yeh it's the worst
5:50 the first tempo counting got me off guard
Yeah I need that shit or I noob 😆
Good Fanbase Care Jay ♥️♥️♥️

Lol actually that metronome sound gives the music a nice vibe
Fuck yeah
How do the guitars being so quiet not stress you out 💀🤣

very interesting how you set and manage the queues

@@JayTesseracT nice! I see that that you use stick click queues on drum fills. Extra assurances won’t hurt. Very nice
That click would kill my brain
do u often get goosebumbs while playing this beautiful music?
Not really but I do tend to go off into my own little world - and sweat.
fuck yes
jay-what is your IEM setup and what are you using to program the click?

Hello Jay, in case you (have time to) read the comments, can I ask what app you use to program the click track?

We use Cubase for all our live stuff and for tracking.
@@JayTesseracT thanks very much! I thought it wasn't just a metronome app.
What app is used for the metronome?
I'll never be able to drum all those djenty patterns
Hello! What was the impetus behind doing away with the extra splash atop the crash, JP?
The setup I’m playing at the moment is pretty close to the one we used for album 5, and I just kinda got used to not having that little splash up there. No real reason tbh
@@JayTesseracT Thanks, JP. Hope to see you on the road in Arizona sometime soon!!!
Does the rest of the band hear the exact same click track or do they get a different one?
Everyone has a different mix although the guitarists we’re sharing a mix on this run because we’re poor
Lol @ the 1,2,3,4,5 in the middle of the song. Kind of scared me
That’s for the guitarists. It’s the worst
Which snare is this one? It sounds really good.
DW collectors stainless steel, 14x6.5 with an Evans heavyweight head. It’s the combo we used for most of Tess 5
Any chance you guy's playing Eden on the set?
Not at the moment dude but maybe some time in the future
What's the polyrhythm at 8:10?
67/78.3
Silly me thinking this song would actually be easier to internalize with a click
Yo Jay, how come you use a dry crash as your main crash?
Because it sounds great. It was one of the original set suggested to my by Meinl, who looked at what I was using with Sabian and Troyes to find suitable similar sounds within their product range. The 20” Byzance Dark crash fit really nicely into my setup, tonally.
@@JayTesseracT Awesome, thanks for the answer, im glad that you're with meinl now, sounds amazing! Cheers!
what do you have suspended in the kick?
A small table for snacks. Jk, It’s called a Kelly Shu, it hold a microphone in place
Where did you get the yelling numbers from?
Hell. Also I believe they’re built into Cubase
what i want to know is, if the other members hear the click as as well, or just Jay?
We all hear the metronome but I probably have it loudest
@@JayTesseracT thanks! I wonder if most bands are the same in that regard?
How do you program your click tracks?
Cubase
Metric modulations?
Metric modulations.
I love Amos looking like he's about to jump down off a building and assassinate someone
Can I just say that I need to lie down now after trying to follow along with the cues on this playthrough, incredible musicians
