It can’t be your friend, it IS your friend. Those who refuse to use a click because they think they’re above it always make me laugh. Most are afraid to have their imperfections revealed to them.
Killer stuff as always. Imo, while you’re not an underrated drummer, I think people can over look you because you fill the song where it’s needed rather than attempt to be flashy and purposefully standout. That’s something in general I love you Tesseract- every part is intricate and technical yet blends together to create something that’s musical.
I've spent time working with a handful of numbers and patterns, so that I can hear them play at the same time. Essentially - polyrhythms. There MIGHT be a new lesson dropping on Monday that talks about this ;)
The click gives a reference and consistency. Consistence is stability and stability gives us comfort. It takes instability out of the equation when it comes to playing live and hopefully the band can relax and settle in to the groove without the worry of tempo fluctuating. I started playing live w a click but there is a human element missing when excitement might make the band want to naturally pick up the tempo if they dont practice regularly to a click. Its not easy sticking to the click when band members rush ahead. I guess thats our job to keep them on a leash.
The click during the intro to Deception definitely makes it harder to make out the groove than just playing along to the record. Really interesting to hear. Please keep posting these, Jay.
Jesus Jay, you make it look so easy. All those polyrhythms while remaining in 4/4. Blows my mind, every time I saw you play this live in concert too. Speechless.
Is it a choice no to put any reverb in your in-ears ? Is it disturbing for you ? I've always felt it helped feel less isolated and more as if there was a nice and natural monitor sound and not only in-ear "direct" monitoring :) Great playing
I would guess they have their own personal mix. If the drummer has a click they may choose not to? I guess they need to release the guitarist's version!
Hmmm! Nice! Reminds me to my few gigs in 2005/06 . I used an MP3 player. And it always feels ... strange, but... yeah. It's a job to be on time. And I programmed such nice fills ... like at ruclips.net/video/2oDiKoFWGvE/видео.html . Jay mentioned his live snare sound to be awfull in his Superior Drummer 3 Live Stream. Errmm, hmmm ...
that's very similar to how my in ear mix sounds live. I noticed that many drummers have the vocals very low in the mix. do you have it so low because it interferes with some of your drum sounds, or do you want to keep the ambience of the venue out of the mix? sick, tight playing as always
I find live vox to be distracting personally - I want to hear my kit as naturally as possible and a bit of the music. Everything else I can hear in the venue ambiance anyway, usually
with loud drums and metronome I can finally headbang to that and catch the groove all the time

The only way to do so
Tesseract is officially a band of Confuse Core
I can follow a lot more on fills, changes, and song structure with that click. Love it.
Yes drummers...the click can be your friend.
The click IS your friend! :)

I've played with and without a click in shows and for me it's so much more fun without a click and just let the energy go.
I would be hearing that in my sleep. lol
He's relaxed! Saving energy! Letting the mics & sound ppl do their jobs. That's a good thing!
You are frustratingly good at drums and incredibly clean in your playing.
Every moment in this video is a “key moment.”
When I realized for the first time that a professional drummer use metronome I understood being a musician is not a dream it is the job!
China sounds insane, massive sound!
Totally fun to hear with the metronome on
I was like "I thought I paused my cubase session?!"
Great drumming as always :)
The cymbal choice is genius, your playing sounds so tight! ❤️
3:45 always gets me. I have no idea how they nail it live. I just don't.
bro, this part is fucking impossible. I just drooped my jaw
Multiple metronomes and hours of rehearsal

Me fellow drummers, have you noticed the magic which is happening at 01:15 ???!! the left and right foot patterns are impossible😑
So unrealistically tight. Never listened to this band much but I’ll be checking them out for sure
Having you, Jay, behind the live show...must be so good for the guys out front.
🙂
First off, awesome performance. That was SICK. Second, the click was really helpful to listen to!
I can't believe the metronome is in 4/4 marking the one and not throwing you off, this is insanely good.
I've spent time working with a handful of numbers and patterns, so that I can hear them play at the same time. Essentially - polyrhythms. There MIGHT be a new lesson dropping on Monday that talks about this ;)
@@JayTesseracT Thank you Jay! I really need to stop overthinking clicks and go 4/4 I'm sure your lesson will help.
This was incredibly helpful with trying to learn the last minute or so of Concealing Fate Part 2. Thanks!
Always find these IEM videos really satisfying hearing the click, not sure what it is about them. Really tight as always though!

Its porn + behind the scenes but for musicians - thats why :D
Yeahhhhhh Jay!
Best air drumming song ever.
Oh my word 8:57

Dude, as always- fucking incredible
I honestly love jays mix. Very drummer.

I don't really listen to tesseract, but i'll always find your drumming so precise, musical, absolutely amazing. Thanks for these drum cam videos mate

Man love those ghost notes!!😯🤙
Awesome playing!
0:49 "lets go Oslo" ?
"Hey Vsauce..!! Michael here"
😂😂😂😂😂😂
A truly worldclass drummer
unbelievable
Incredible, please keep em coming!
No words🤯🔥
That China sounds sooo sick!!!
Super melodic drumming, excellent Jay
Solid!!! Great Job!! 🤟🤟
Sounds awesome! I usually really struggle to have OH's and hats in my in ear mix, but this sounds really great
I wonder how Daniel manages to sing his parts following the metronome… it’s totally insane.
FAAD DAALA BHAIYA AAPNE
HELL YEAH MAN! 🔥
Thanks IQ, this is 🔥🔥🔥
Amazing!
Cubase metronome is king!
🤘🏼🖤
So. fucking. good.
железо звучит просто суперски, особенно чайна унисон с малым
наверное первый драмкэм с концерта с майнлом))
1:17 was the snare a tad early?
Jesus Jay, you make it look so easy. All those polyrhythms while remaining in 4/4. Blows my mind, every time I saw you play this live in concert too. Speechless.
Its all 4/4 but it feels like 100/84.7 or something 56/78 time sig. But the drumming is 10/10 for sure 🔥🔥🔥
Its actually not. You can hear changes in the accents on the metronome.
COME TO BRASIL 🇧🇷
Showing us why you're the best in Prog
1234 on the clock as I comment love you Jay let's go ☝️
those D6 on toms

Great playing
I'm early. 🔥
Sounds great! What camera did you use for this?
It’s a Black Magic pocket 4k - treated myself earlier this year and have zero regrets 😂
What name of your double pedal
Great playing! What are the snare mics?
Awesome stuff, what do you use for playback?
That is just too good. Is that cord under the throne going to a shaker in the throne? Just curious.
It's a BC2
Yeh, it’s a Porter and Davies
@@JayTesseracT Thanks for the info and your time in replying!! Rock on!

Does the rest of the band have the click in their ears as well? Love these videos, Jay 🔥

@@prologue2epilogue true, great point. A guitarist version would def be interesting

Is this really the IEM mix? There's hardly any band. I guess the on stage volume is enough. Interesting stuff!
I cannot think of any other band that sounds so much like polyrhythms that actually ain't.

RIP metronome
Why did they add a keyboard player? only seems to know two notes .
dont use cue?
Tomas on an off-day, with One Direction on vox.
If you can share it, I can say it.
He makes it look too easy
Sex cymbals
Very nice playing indeed. But… are drummers using metronomes in every track nowadays, I mean they are drummers right?
Totally prefer this band over Periphery 😂
today I want mcdonalds, tomorrow burger king, the next day KFC.
It's not really about who is better.
JAJAJAJA vales V bro, la cagaste men
🥴🥴🥴🥴
Why do you need a metronome?
To sync with sound effects (synth, additional vocal harmonies ...)
