Your precision and groove have always blown me away. The amount of time you must have spent getting to this point must be massive. Huge respect to you and your playing man.
*proudly raises his hand because he cried to the PORTALS live version several times* I love that song! I feel like some PORTALS songs have a completely different, very unique vibe / style than the "original" album ones. Never had that before!
Have I ever literally cried to this one? OH YEAH! This is powerful song, the tones from everyone, the groove of the drums and the lyrics really get to me. Found this song during a big life change and it's never left my rotation. Thank you for this, always good to hear what the mix in the IEM sound like.
I appreciate the lower volume and click track. I'm kinda new to drumming (saving up for my first kit, using sticks and pillows for now lol) and this actually helped me keep track of what's really going on.
I listen Tesseract all the time to improve my click with my left foot while I play because of the rhythms that jay uses to compose, it has helped me a lot on my instrument.

Awesome performance as always. Much respect to you and the band. So question...maybe do a drum vlog talking about or maybe you already answered... How come your using triggers on everything now? Sampling + raw = awesome sound? or just for in ears?
1. The triggers are used for gates - we’re not triggering any samples. They purely keep the mics closed until I hit the drum. 2. I mainly need to hear myself and a little bit of backing track / synth stuff. Most of everything else I hear in the stage ambiance and having it too direct in my ears is a distraction, for me
@@JayTesseracT wow that was fast lol...thanks for answering. Awesome, never even thought of triggers as gates...very interesting. Got to look into that. Specially on snare. I deleted the question on inear because I saw on the comments you answered someone but thanks for answering, anyway makes sense. You guys are running a complete production on click plus but the tempo changes...with that kind of pressure I think I would prefer your mix too.
hey Jay great drumming! I have a question about your hi-hat cymbals ...do you find the Foundry Reserve line to be able to cut through the mix and how do you like the hats, the 15's are on my wish list! The reviews always play some jazz riffs.... and I'm like well can these cut it in a metal band or heavier rock?
Jay you’re such an increíble drummer and inspiration, congrats! Love that song and how groovy you sound 😱🤯 Actually, you’ve inspired me so much with you’re left foot and ghost notes that I was actively working on that consistently. Nevertheless, I think I went overboard with the left foot, don’t know if is tendinitis or what, but the left side of my foot is having this constant pain for a while, even after stopping entirely for a while. Not asking here for medical advice, I should probably get that checked out by a doctor, but, have you encountered such a struggle before? It amazes me how your left foot is there always rocking, and I wonder how you develop such endurance in your foot… have you ever had pain related to it? do you have any idea what could be the problem and why? My guess now is that I was stomping and probably doing it loosely would be the way to go, but haven’t recovered, so no idea. Would appreciate any feedback! Take care and keep rocking it 👏🏽🤘🏽
Definitely get it checked out but no, I haven’t encountered that myself. Most of the time, pain when playing comes down to poor or inefficient technique which forces you to play through pain. I’m 100% about making playing as efficient as possible as I want to be able to do this for a long time. I have a free lesson on my pedal hat technique which you may find useful: jaypostones-drumlessons.com/pedal-hat-technique/ But 100% don’t play through pain - get it checked out and look after yourself ❤️
I hear a load of it in the on stage ‘noise’ so I have just what I need in my IEMs. I can always turn things up a little more if needed live but generally I just want drums and click
@@JayTesseracT Ah. Makes sense. When I played in hardcore and metal bands I liked having clear guitar in my monitor or phones. In my church band, though, I prefer hearing only the keys....and maybe a bit of vocal.
@@JayTesseracT I was blown away by the fact that Dystopia is also 4/4. After that, I believe you, sir. Most things are 4/4 if you are patient enough to wait for the next 1.
Tbh I’m so used to the click now that I’m playing with a load of ‘feel’ even with it. At least, it feels that way to me. There’s no way Tess will even play live without a metronome as all of the guitar effects switching etc is all programmed, so we are locked in now
@@JayTesseracT yessirrr 🤘 some think "click" can make your feel less but in reality it really does add to the sense of entertainment and discipline of your playing. Hope to see you play here in 🇵🇭 or maybe a clinic? 🤘☺️
Because it makes the live shows more impactful and allows us to add in another song generally if we drop the first chunk of this, the intro to Concealing Fate, the outro to nocturne etc… it’s about adding more songs and the energy flow of the set
It must be a heaven for a drummer playing such interesting grooves in an awesome band like Tesseract!
It’s not the worst 😂

I've definitely spent a WHILE drumming.
@@JayTesseracT it really shows in your playing. It's living it, breathing it. It's so apparent.
For a drummer to make the listener feel the emotion of the song, that is a very special drummer. It’s glowing through you, man. Again, always “Wow!”.
Thank you for the kind words

One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite drummers!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Aww thanks dude!
Lord Amos out here...
UNREAL!) U SO AWESOME!)
I always heard this is 6 / 4.click here is straight 4 over 3 bars. Cool.
At the last rimshot you can actually hear the sticks cracking lol
Even the sticks are perfectly in time.
I honestly think this song has some of the best drum parts you have composed
Beautiful drumming. We need more videos of you all performing. Like you did with "One". Would be sooooo much fun. Take care.
My favourite ( моя любимка)

Homies grooves are so fuckin sticky. Glorious

So beautifully played 👌
This is precious
Love this raw stuff, great glimpse into the factory.
We want more Jaaaaaaay
masterpiece!
The frightening part is that this song is in 4/4
That’s so awesome!!! Is that also the original type of click sound you listen to?
Yep, this is the exact recording from the rehearsal and the exact mix I hear when playing
Wish you played this one in Oslo :(
Next time when we have a longer set perhaps ❤️

Where'd the Bell Brass go?! Groovy tones regardless 🤘😎🤘
I still have it but the stainless steel is what we used for 99% of the album - it beat the bell brass in a blind test
@@JayTesseracT Superb! Sounds lovely!
I like to hear what I'm doing on the kit in a mix, too, but wouldn't you want the guitar and or bass rhythm to be a bit louder?

Grows your hair back, to increase the tightness of the groove. 😂✌🏻
Can confirm the groove will diminish with added hair
