Cheers to you, CY. Your videos are always inspiring and instructive and I hope they will continue. Your coffee bar is certainly congested which is good in that some of the better machines are seen but it can also become distracting. With your restricted space you do very well. Also, I notice that you have become eve more expert at single hand filming. I babel too much. Stay safe, amigo.
At 7:00 you asked about the function of the lever having the "stop" half way up before engaging the pump. That is the pre-infusion stage, where the E61 valve opens and allows hot water to flow into the group without the pump running. The idea is the pressure from the boiler (heat) moves a small amount of water into the puck to let it expand slowly before the pump kicks in and water gushes out. The theory being, once the puck is wet and "swollen" there is less likelihood of the pump causing channels when it comes on. Also allows for better distribution of water through the puck.
oh yes I am aware of that function because it works on my Quick Mill Rubino but apparently Lelit Marx X don't have this half lever engagement to allow for preinfusion.
I sometimes use it on my Mara X to stop the shot without triggering the solenoid valve for a few seconds around 12s or once I see a couple of drops appear on my bottomless portafilter. Blooming like this helps if I've ground slightly too fine or just to push extraction some more.
CY, I have seen some recommendations that it's a good idea to use a foodgrade lite grease on the topcap threads. What do you think? Assembly all done with a clean starting condition. I am trying to decide this matter presently. Thoughts are appreciated.
Do you have a good solution for the silicon inserts on the cup holder fingers? I'd love a way to just have a drop in hole without consumables (because they wear out). Otherwise know where to source a number of these? :P
CY, You can see at 20:28 that you installed the declumper v2 and pvc declumper backwards. You have it grinder, then pvc, then 3D printed declumper then chute. This will cause the coffee to push on the pvc flap, which then pushes on the 3D printed grid. That is what breaks the grid. You should install it grinder, then 3D, then pvc, then chute. Or am I seeing it wrong? I watched several times to see. It looks like you reinstalled it the same way.
I know on other machine the lever stops mid way and you lift 15 degrees for pre infusion then all the way. Not sure if this machine is the same as on ECM’s machine.
I will still keep the flap but use a more flexible one. I believe without the declumper the grind will be less consistent. My retention is always around 0.1g or zero.
my declumper I got from you also broke within like 2 days of use. I just tossed it in the trash. Went back to the original one until I can find something better.
@@jieguo I am not sure at the moment how much it will cost to fabricate it. It will not be SG$7.50 for sure. And those who has purchased the 3d printed version I will not be able to resend as the cost of shipping is way more than the declumper itself. I have already removed the item from sales and I will not be releasing the 3d print file online as well.
I guess I just don't understand why anyone would buy a grinder knowing that a ton of mods would have to be done to make it "work correctly". I just don't get it I say (shaking my head). Cheers :)
cheers. I am not shaking my head because this is a good grinder out of the box and thousands of happy user. I am just the few who are not happy with just good enough. (smiling as its a great gridner)
You could try to buy a Niche Zero… but even if you are lucky enough to purchase when they drop to the website, (they sell out in minutes? Seconds? I had one in my cart seconds after they dropped, but by the time I entered my credit card info, I was given a message that they were sold out!) it will cost you almost twice as much (my DF64 WAS $450 US Dollars, shipped). A few relatively simple mods make it arguably as good as the Niche… better if you like flat burrs, and the DF64 can be upgraded with SSP burrs. There no other grinders as good even close to the price range. This is my opinion. Ymmv. 🙂
@@ryanwood1911 l just sold my niche zero. I just don't like conical burr for espresso. I owed the niche Zero before df64. I am using specialita before the niche and immediately I know niche is just not mine type of grinder. its over priced and over hyped in my opinion. its personal preference. anyway, neither niche, specialita nor the df64 is not a grinder I will be keeping to use for long term. Thanks for the update !
Could you test the new Flap from the Stock DF64. I think the changed the FLAP with the Second Batch
Thanks
Hey CY, at least you proved that the plastic used for the 3d printing mod is edible...since you still alive :-))))
🤣🤣🤣 actually the broken pieces are there in the coffee ground. I didn't manage to consume it...oh gosh.

It does reduce the chance of wear on the thread and prevent cross threading.

Where can I get Thomas' dosing cup? It would fit great with my DF64...
Another question: do you find your alignment changes over time?
Would also like to know about the dosing cup.
I will get Thomas's email and post in the comment soon.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore Hi CY, did you post Thomas's email yet? I couldn’t find it, tks

Since the declumper is not working, what happens to my version 2 declumper order which is just on the way to USA?
Please list the tools used in the video. Tamper, distribution tool, fluffer, station, ....
Definitely the WDT tool looks fun. Which one is that?
I cut the flapper and use the 10° base, but have 1g retention on SSP MP. Any ideas why?

sorry about that and wasting your money. This is a mod and testing going on. I think the only choice is metal now which I will be fabricating.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore so will you be sending metal version for replacement? Thanks

it's working for certain period of time. if u do not install the pvc flap, it will be wear off very fast due to the grinding speed.
How coarse can this go? Would you say this can go from espresso to as coarse as French press?
yes it definitely can.
