  • The first part we will be talking about what we should do before we do burr alignment alignment why we have to do it.
    1. Cleaning up
    2. Spring and silicon housing
    3. Dry marker test on both top and bottom burrs to check initial alignment.

    CY my DF64 with the Titanium Burrs finally arrived. I believe the burrs are not properly aligned because I can hear the burrs are touching at approximately the third marking almost at the beginning.
    I have not used the grinder yet. Is it a problem if I use the DF64 even if the burrs are touching on the 3 marking and I aligned the burrs later?
    I open the grinder but I have not used a removable dark marker to paint the burrs and to test the burrs alignment as you have done in this video.

      hi Eduardo. You can still use the grinder. What you can do it to first know the point on the collar where the 2 burrs touch each other. You can do this manually without turning on the power. Then move anticlockwise 15 markings away from the touch point. If your burr touches at 3, move to 18. Start grinding there for espresso. Remember to use medium light roasted beans first if you can.

      @@CaffeMartellaSingapore I will try to send you an email with some pictures. I was able to check where the burrs are touching. I did turn on the grinder but very lightly.
      I was able to brew a few espresso. I started at 15 and it simply chocked the Linea Mini. I then tried it at 20, at 25 and finally a very good dial in at 22.
      I use medium and light medium beans. That’s what I am using.
      The Titanium burrs a very nice!
      Maybe we can chat on Instagram tomorrow or Thursday.
      I have a very early meeting tomorrow morning but I should be back by 9:30am or 10:00 am Miarni time ( 9:30 to 10:00 pm Singapore time).
      If that does not work for you maybe Thursday might work!
      Thanks!

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  3 года назад +1

      I will suggest you use it first. Then when you clean it for the first time, you follow my video to do the burr alignment and do a before and after tasting of the coffee grinder before and after alignment and check also the range for espresso. If you aligned your burr properly, you will have a larger range for espresso.

    I don’t think those silicone sleeves are meant to be pushed down, the sleeves give you something to grip the spring with. If you have to take out the spring after you push in the sleeve, you will end up pulling the spring and stretching it out.

      @@CaffeMartellaSingapore I was asking because on the forum people are saying that once you remove the bottom cover the two screws which are holding it in place are actually tension the motor and apparently it is nearly impossible to tensions it exactly the same which causes misalignment of the bottom burr as the whole motor is slightly shifted as it is kind of floating design.
      Have you checked your alignment after removing the bottom cover?
      People are installing hex m5 standoffs in place of the long screws to have more consistent results when re-installing the bottom base.
      I am asking all of this as I am considering buying DF64 with SSP MP burrs pre-installed and pre-aligned using dial indicator rather than water marker which should be much more precise method but I would hate to pay extra for alignment service only to throw it away when upgrading de-clumping screen.

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  2 года назад

      @sebna I have removed the bottom hex screws to service one of the customer's df64 and so fat there is no need for realignment and it has been good for a few months already.

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  2 года назад

      @sebna and I don't understand why would alignment run if you are just removing the front panel. I am not even removing the collar to release the spring that holds the upper burr carrier. It won't cause any problem if you see what I did in this video.

    is it really necessary to bottom out these plastic sleeves manually? The pressure exerted by the adjustment wheel should be more than enough to push the sleeves down, especially if you twist it all the way down to zero. The fact the sleeves only loosely grip the springs seems to defy the need for this step. I see a lot of people suggesting this process is performed, but I haven't seen actual evidence of the difference this step makes. aligning the burrs, sure, that make sense. This sleeve step, not so much.

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  2 года назад

      When James Hoffman did his first review, the sleeve is not down, and this affect his grinding range. I can safely says if your grinder is aligned, with the sleeve pushed down, it will give you more grinding range especially in the finer grind setting. You can do what ever you think it fits on your grinder. We are just sharing our findings at the beginning stage of the grinder. This had been done 9 to 12 months ago and it has worked for many ppl.

    • @rajindergill9480
      @rajindergill9480 2 года назад

      @@CaffeMartellaSingapore hmm, but what if you zero the grinder by turning the wheel all the way down first? The pressure of the ring should push those sleeves down out of grind range. They are not so tight on the springs that the force of the wheel wont push them down.
