    I've been leant an Atom 65 (currently using a J-max) by a friend and thought it would be great to check the alignment of the burrs to make sure all is running well before I begin. His was used in his coffee shop but burrs seem in good shape. Performing the marker test everything seems even all around, but the flats aren't completely cleaned of marker. The inner point remains and only the outer edge is rubbed away. On both top and bottom burrs. So I'm not really sure if that's normal or where to go from here haha. Any advice from anyone?

    This is not burr alignment. You need to use shims. And you should only mark the stationary burr.

      Ok mark the stationary burr and shim ...I assume also shim the stationary ?

      This DF64 grinder isn't built the same way many grinders are. Notice how the stationary burr carrier rides on 3 springs. Using shims honestly may be unnecessary with the DF64 because of the 3 spring arrangement...you shim it and then the alignment still relies on a compressible material in a spring? I question the DF64's ability to hold an alignment because of this design feature of 3 springs, but time will tell I suppose. Shims make total sense when you're dealing with a rigid metal carrier, I don't dispute that, but that's not what we're dealing with here. He didn't mark rotational burr in tests #2 and #3. There are many paths to the same destination - a wipe is a wipe, does it really matter the methodology used to get there?

      If the burrs are more parallel then is it not alignment?
      I think it is important to leave comments on faulty techniques, But I don't see that here, please correct me if I missed something

    You have to allign burrs on flat burrs? Oh man that make s me want to stay conical.

  • @tasmedic

    It's still not aligned. It might be a bit better than it was, but it still needs a little shimming.

    there is not much use if you mark both burrs at the same time. you should do one by one. there are many videos showing this method here on youtube

    • @esbenrasmussen4289
      @esbenrasmussen4289 2 года назад

      Can you explain why? I would think that marking the bottom burr would at worst have no use, but why would it invalidate results?

    • @fjaviergl99
      @fjaviergl99 2 года назад +8

      @@esbenrasmussen4289 marking the burrs makes sense and it is helpful. However, you need to mark only the bottom one and see where there is color left and align using shims. Once the buttom burrs is aligned, THEN you mark only the top burr and do the same. if you mark them both at the same time you dont know which burr is touching where

    • @b0nes95
      @b0nes95 8 месяцев назад +4

      @@fjaviergl99from a logic perspective, if the bottom burr is 90 percent aligned based on a market test, wouldn't that mean you're done? The removed marker is due to 2 burrs touching each other yeah? Why would you need to mark the top burr afterwards? Sorry I'm new to alignment.
