  • Various Hyundai & Kia’s are equipped with the 2.4L GDI engine. Assuming your engine doesn’t have the notorious bearing clearance failure. Your issue may be the knock sensor.
OEM Knock Sensor part #-Santech KS0098
The vehicle in this video is a 2013 Kia Optima but this repair should be very similiar and apply to the

Thank you, because I thought the knock sensor replacement was all I needed when I had it fixed. I took it to a dealer 2 different times for the same knock sensor code, they never told me about the harness that was sold separately. Now I'm coming out of pocket more money for a 3rd time.

    Severity - High
Description - The Camshaft Position Sensor is used to increase engine power by changing when the engine valves open. This sensor must relay information to the ECU to properly function, so if it is not responding fast enough the engine will not be able to run optimally and it will trigger a System Performance code.

Came back to update that the dealership said it was a bad knock sensor. They replaced it for free. It was under the engine recall and so was the $199 diagnostic. Car is no longer in limp mode. And drives fine.

Where does the harness go? Im having this problem now on a sonata

The knock sensor is attached to the intake manifold. At 7:49 the knock sensor harness is the 1 on the right

I replaced mines on a 2012 Kia Optima sx.. and the knocking sound is still what could it be now?

Chances are your engine is done. If it’s a 2012 your factory warranty is expired as well

@@ultimatediyguy395 ive changed the engine oil..but i forgot to change the oil filter and i drove it for about 5-6 daya like that and i burly noticed…i checked my oil amd itts super dark ..could that be the problem about the filter? Causing me the knocking and the chek engine

@@rick_golden well engine oil should not look black with only 6 days of use. If the engine filter is clogged that could cause an issue. But if you literally hear knocking in the engine then it’s most likely irreversible damage and your engine is probably toast

@@mikematthews234 I don’t really think the filters are the issue. Either these engines simply have bad build quality or they should be using thicker oil viscosity
