Report this to the NHTSA because they have open investigations on them and theres another class action lawsuit opened in South Carolina against Hyundai and their 2015 sonatas. I purchased a Optima. Did the recall for knock sensor to be added, eight days engine coded and had to be replaced. My vehicle was at dealership for almost 2 months due to backlog for engine problems. Engine was replaced, but 10 days later, engine lit on and car stopped. This time faulty sensor. Car ran for 10 days and while driving slowed to a complete stop. My closest Hyundai dealership is an hour away. They won’t be able to get my car in to be looked at for a month and a half. That’s unacceptable. I’m pretty sure I’m having a knock sensor issue and not actually an engine issue itself. My abs lights came on and then a few hours later the engine light started blinking and my car went into limp mode. No knocking noises tho. I’m hoping that I can get my car driving condition tomorrow if it is just the knock sensor and then have complete diagnostics ran at the dealer in a month and half in case there’s something that becomes a catastrophic engine failure and needs replacements.. and that’s covered by all Hyundais who have the latest knock sensor installed which I’m thinking mine does because it’s a later 2015 Hyundai Sonata that I bought dec 31st 2018. No recalls are on my car for a new knock sensor. Hoping this isn’t going to cost me a ton bc I’m broke.

Very good information and explanation,8 months ago remplace a crankshaft, rods and piston on a 2.4l Hyundai with the same code after that remplace knock sensor and harness from sensor to pcm(I use sand paper to give more tolerance in the crankshaft part main and rod bearing to avoid the original problem..

Seems like Hyundai found a way to screw people with this update by making it a requirement to be able to be eligible for the limited lifetime warranty. These dumb judges and lawyers fell for it. All the update does is make the knock sensor more sensitive to try and save an engine that has already started to fail by putting it into limp mode. This should of never been a campaign but a recall on all engines for safety reasons. They also lied in the owners manual by stating they recommend oil changes at 7,500 miles for normal use and 5,000 miles for more heavy use but all these engines are burning a quart of oil every 500-1,000 miles leaving the car bone dry by the next oil change. Rod bearings are failing because of the way the engine was engineered. It is a faulty engine that is bound to fail no matter what a consumer does to try and prevent it. These am engines were built to fail by design.
Dirty injectors can cause the flashing check engine light. Did a pressure feed fuel injector cleaning service by removing the FI fuse, detaching the FI line from the HP pump and connecting a quart container with FI cleaner concentrate pressurized to 50 psi to my air compressor. Ran the car for around 10 minutes till the cleaner ran out. Test drove, problem solved.
Thanks for sharing,I had a P200A,it’s gone now but I took your advice and listened to the VCM it sounds ok.I will watch in case the engine light comes back on..I sure hope not…
It’s the rod bearing’s p1326 is a rod bearing if you don’t hear no noise coming from the engine at all then u might just need a knock sensor or software update which is not common so look for noises then u can go from the noise cause of there is your bearing RIP
Bought my 2018 hyundai sonata at carmax back in the beginning of April 2021 with 41k miles on it... So now July 31 2021 my car has p1326 knock sensor issue.... also caused by water at the sensor harness (let dry few days) or false KSDS alert - make sure Hyundai put the latest KSDS software variant, there were several improved versions of the software.
Thanks for the video. What preventive measures can an Hyundai Owner do? Also, have the journal oil flow issue been corrected with the newer models. What weight oil do you recommend since there are 3 different weights listed in the Owners manual all are suitable for the NJ area?
This issue is covered by kia, they also have a 150,000 mile warranty on knock sensor issue and sometimes the engine would have to be replaced!. Don't be scared people, if your car is over 100,000 miles.
Got a p1326 on the wife's car this evening, looked it up and saw this is what it is. I'm glad to see their is a recall on this. Hyundai cars are a piece of crap. 0n her 2011 sonata the tail light bulbs are always going out, when you try to change them out it's a pain in the ass. The dashboard has cracks all over it, and of course there is nothing they can do about it. The passenger seat belt receptacle doesnt work, they want $300 plus to replace it😏.
Yeah I've always had problems with the break lights. Bought it new used with 15k. Replaced the lights themselves and the entire assembly two or 3 times lol. Still no recall on this. Just got a p1326 code with 73k miles. I'm out of warranty now so I'm not covered. Hopefully it doesn't get even worse. I've heard the rods can go and engines break down. How did your repair go?
I chatted with a mechanic that does these repairs.. He said at one time it was nothing to have 25 waiting to be repaired. He said Hyundai cut the labor hours and it is about impossible to make anything doing these jobs. All the good mechanics are quitting and going elsewhere.

2016 Hyundai Sonora Hybrid. Only 34,000 miles. Well maintained. It was 99 degrees F, family of 4 going 65mph on freeway. Engine running smoothly. Dashboard normal. SUDDENLY, gas pedal was useless! Semi-trucks & cars everywhere! Grateful my son was able to get onto the shoulder & stop. Could have been horrible!!! Could not drive car at all. Dash lit up with large words (I have a photo but don't know how to add it): "Check Hybrid system. Turn off engine" Also showed Orange Triangle with explanation point at top, containing these letters: "HEV" Also showed "AUTO HOLD" below all of that. The steady (non-blinking) "Check Engine" light came on later. Spent over an hour in desert heat waiting for $980 tow to nearest dealer. Today, dealer says Code P1326. I had "Campaign 966 Engine Monitoring Logic" installed Nov. 2021. Dealer wants to install new Knock Sensor ~ $700. This is not my regular Hyundai Service location. That would add a $600 tow. I read this entire thread. No one else mentioned, "Check Hybrid system. Turn off engine". Loved my car but now it frightens me. Looking for guidance on what to do. Thx.
Great video! Well done. I just replaced the knock sensor from below on a '13 Hyundai Accent with a factory sensor. I cleared the code. Now car will occasionally not start immediately (1 out of 5 attempts). Any ideas? Does computer default settings need to be reset. Why is proper torque so important on these sensors? I could not properly torque down since I came up from below, and had no room for wrench. I also sprayed WD40 in threaded bolt hole before replacing since bolt was very hard to un-seize. Thank you.
The knock sensor should have nothing to do with a hard start issue. Torque value is important for the knock sensors because overtorquing it can cause false ratings and make the sensor over sensitive to knock detection. Be sure that you didn’t interfere with the fuel injector harness or anything while replacing the sensor and also check for vacuum leaks.
If done early enough in the engines life and in regular intervals they absolutely help keep the carbon at bay! Once the carbon has set in there’s not much that will clean them minus removing the intake manifold and walnut blasting/scrubbing the valves and ports!
Hey there. Great video and great info! My mother in law just had this issue on her 13 sorento. Also, at 2500 miles into the oil change, it was very low! Consuming oil is my guess. Kia did all tests and check bearing clearance and said all was good. My huge favor question to you is: What tolerances are considered acceptable and what's bad?? 0.003 good, and 0.005 bad? I am not sure. I dont know their tolerances and I'd like to know if she is on the cusp of bad things happening or not? Thanks a ton in advance!

Is this on a 2.0L engine? If not, how much different would it be on a 2017 Kia Sorento 2.0L Turbo? Can't seem to find that specifically online. Just the 2.4, for some reason.
I just got a P1326 code with a flashing Check Engine light on a 2016 Santa Fe 2.0. But the only symptom is that the car doesn't accelerate past 35 mph, no knocking, etc. I read the TSB (Tech Service Bulletin) and it says that the issue is the Knock Sensor Harness...If that's the case, I can just swap harnesses...or should the dealer do this?
I have a 2014 well maintained with 2.4 almost 50,000 miles and have the code back for a second time (the last at 25,000 the dealer said if was the wire harness and replaced it. Now the scanner says “glow relay short circuit.”
Thank you for sharing this clear and to the point explanation of this code and test! We have a 2017 Santa Fe 2.4L that was just towed and sitting at the dealership waiting for this check Monday morning. I did a quick check with my code reader and it’s got the P1326 after flashing the CEL and going into limp mode a short distance before getting home. Nice to know what they should be doing. Question - to engines that fail the clearance test, are they always making noise or does this pickup the issue before they die? Take care!
I agree with you they the dealership did it to me ,too on my 2016 veloster . I bought it new from WORLD Hyundai dealership in Matteson,Illinois. They lies about the real problem with the car to avoid honoring the warranty.(Louis Burks)😮
I have a '13 Elantra with the rod knock.took to dealer charged me $250 for diagnostic to confirm. Idk if this is the test they did,but when i got the car back I immediately noticed it seemed like it wasn't accelerating like it was before they looked at it,seems like it's lagging or something. I assume they did the knock sensor update on it. Wish i were near you to do the diagnostic
Can you update the knock sensor if the engine doesn’t turn over or can you replace a knock sensor with a new one with the new update already installed on it? Or is there a way to somehow get the update by other means like extending the wire on the knock sensor and putting it into another car so the computer thinks that it was updated.
@MayKen Replacing it wont do much, it needs the update from dealership. Only way to get the lifetime warranty. Even with the update it probably wont help.
How do you reset the adaptive values if you're replacing the knock sensor at home? If I clear the codes and possibly disconnect and reconnect the battery after install would it work?
Question… I had the bearing clearance test done and they said they needed to add oil to do the test as the air was going around the cylinder due to a bad ring. Would this be considered a failed bearing test? Thanks

So you have one of two issues. First off, make sure you’re using top tier fuels. If they are subpar fuel and less resistant to knock this will happen. Second. My son’s 2014 Sonata has the same code. How much was the repair on this? I saw Hyundai reprogrammed the computers in these cars as part of a recall, make the knock sensors overly responsive. Even using a non original oil filter can set them off. He just got an oil change.
its usually pretty cut and dry. Any time that code is thrown we have to run a bearing clearance test. If that passes, and the PCM has the latest software we'll look at the knock sensor. @@NovaResource The thing about the recall is this. They’re basically inspecting your engine to see how it is right this moment.
What do you mean sandpaper on the bearing?

@@agoodneighborautorepair2176 that makes sense, thank you
Seems like Hyundai found a way to screw people with this update by making it a requirement to be able to be eligible for the limited lifetime warranty.
I appreciate you showing what is involved in checking the clearances. Lots show the rest but not that bit. Good video.
This videos is the best explained so far great job how much does a job like this cost?
About $500 , had the knock sensor replaced on my car and that’s how much it was
Dirty injectors can cause the flashing check engine light.
This video saved my life. Thank you seriously, I was going through it 😂
Thanks for sharing,I had a P200A,it’s gone now but I took your advice and listened to the VCM it sounds ok.I will watch in case the engine light comes back on..I sure hope not…
It’s the rod bearing’s p1326 is a rod bearing if you don’t hear no noise coming from the engine at all then u might just need a knock sensor or software update which is not common so look for noises then u can go from the noise cause of there is your bearing RIP
Bought my 2018 hyundai sonata at carmax back in the beginning of April 2021 with 41k miles on it... So now July 31 2021 my car has p1326 knock sensor issue.... Thanks for the video. What preventive measures can an Hyundai Owner do? Also, have the journal oil flow issue been corrected with the newer models. What weight oil do you recommend since there are 3 different weights listed in the Owners manual all are suitable for the NJ area?
Best preventative measures is to prevent yourself from ever buying a Hyundai or Kia again

My check engine light started blinking on Saturday I have a 2011 Kia Optima… did a test on it with same code … dealerships said it would be up to 2 weeks before they can look at it !! It turns on but has a terrible knocking sound!!!!
@Amanda Lovee yea I had to get the whole engine replaced! As long as you had the knock and sensor updated theyll replace it for free
I bought a sonata 2.4l 2018 in April this year I didn't know a about the recall, or the claim settlement against hyundai American motors it closed in July this year but my vin is included in the settlement pretty sure dealer who sold it to me knew about it should I complain to consumer protection or am I wasting my time should sell the car ?

@@SEsGarage Thanks!
Great video. Subbed. Is there any validation that tje GDI valve treatment has any benefit ?

Did u figure this out?
I just popped a new knock sensor on a 2018 . Not much difference yet
You can try a capacitive discharge. Disconnect both battery cables and touch them together for several minutes
Did putting the two cables together work

Question… I had the bearing clearance test done and they said they needed to add oil to do the test as the air was going around the cylinder due to a bad ring. Would this be considered a failed bearing test? Thanks
No, it would not. They only check for rod bearing clearance
What would you recommend for me to do. 100k 2016 Optima and got the error code and went into low power mode. Got towed and the reset and reprogrammed WVU for knock sensor
Reprogrammed ECU
If you hear an actual knock/misfire would you suggest to replace all coils, plugs and knock sensors?

was this car making any actual knocking sounds before you worked on it or just the light came on
Just the light no abnormal engine noises

Great video. Thank you. I have two questions. People like to claim all these Theta-II engines are crap but I don’t believe that’s true. In your opinion, is this engine knock issue more of a problem with GDI vs MPI or both? Also, is it for of an issue for American assembled engines vs Korean assembled engines or both? Thanks.
Let me put it this way. I would never put my family in a vehicle with any series theta engine. One, two, or three. I’ve just seen too many failures from well-maintained vehicles.
@@SEsGarage Maybe I’m lucky. I have 3 Theta-II powered cars that all passed the test this past May as part of the recall:

@@NovaResource The thing about the recall is this. They’re basically inspecting your engine to see how it is right this moment.
