I spent much of my time on The Railway around Warrington. It was so Busy, especially with Coal for Fiddlers Ferry. Happy Days.

Thanks Mark, but sorry I’ve no idea what the reversing coal trains were all about. During the 1980s I lived in the South, so visits to Stafford were few and far between.

Hi Stafford station is a bit of a junction, the class 20 was reversing on to the Shrewsbury spur which run the other way to the Uttoxeter line, the power station were on these lines in Staffordshire, all closed now. Interestingly you spot which colliery they came from by the length of the mgrs 30,36,42,46 this was very obvious in the Welsh valleys as well. Long time ago ,miss spent youth, all the best Richard

@@markwebster7128Hi yes reverse, then go forward on a different line. Line to left as looking from the platform actually goes up to the left then down and joins the Shrewsbury Uttoxeter Derby line. Uttoxeter and Stoke had two large coal fired power stations the others were on the Birmingham Derby line, Drakelow being my favourite saw my first two brand new Class 58, 001 & 002 out on test pulling a 46 length mgr. It was quite common place for freight trains to arrive and reverse in to a yard can think of quite a few instances hope that’s okay Richard

@richardharvey7208 only line I can think of is the universal grinding line which was a dead end I think.
