  • This video is a compilation of clips of Class 56s in action on the main line, filmed between 1987 and 1991. These have been put together in (TOPS) Class number order. Unfortunately, not every Class member features, but some locomotives do feature more than once.
[All photos used in the opening sequence and the background music were taken/ written/ played by me.]

Fantastic memories of the class 56. Thanks for sharing.
Would I be able to have your permission to use some of the footage in one of my next RUclips videos, I’m looking at the new OO gauge model of the 56 and would like sone real life footage.
I would of course credit you for this footage.
I hope to hear from you.
    Cheers.
    Dave

Hi Dave, no I’ve no problem with you using some of the footage - ( not that I’ve any idea how you do this 🤷🏻‍♂️😂) . Anything that helps signpost Old Oak Trains to other enthusiasts and modellers can only be a good thing in my view. Good luck with your review… cheers Geoff.

We didn't get 'stick the Sulzer back' with the 57s; if you were in the USA it's been EMDs ever since steam finished...

Wow! a superb upload. 1.5+ hours of 56s. Watching this whilst referencing my 1984 edition Rail Atlas and 1989 edition of Locomotives and Coaching Stock (Platform 5 publication), such joy, especially the 56s on MGRs. Thank you.😀👍

Great video, worked many 56s on the Betteshanger & Brookgate coal trains in Kent. Only drawback to them were the fumes & if you had to shunt with them they were slow on picking up power when initially applied, if you werent careful & gave it a bit more all of a sudden you took off😂 otherwise great locos.

9:47 I didn’t know that the 56s were in the Trainload Petroleum livery.

Up in the northeast the main traffic for the 56s was MGR trains. In the 80s there were still plenty of collieries open in the north of England. I remember seeing them screaming through Stockton station heading south with a full load for ferry bridge power station .Sadly all the mines are now gone. And so are most of the power stations. Victims of the governments obsession with net zero.

Back in the day it didn’t seem conceivable that one day there wouldn’t be MGRs , or even coal trains of any sort. Amazing how things have changed just in the past few years. 😟

What's the smoke coming from near the rear bogey of 56061at 35:07 - an overheating traction motor or something? Excellent vid btw :)
