9:37 it's funny because smooth criminal and alright were both inspired by older 40's movies but they didn't inspire each other. Janet has tried her hardest throughout her career to not reference any of her family and that has caused to become extremely original
Janet has said in many interviews that because she and Michael were so close, they loved to watch old dance musicals and movies together. 😊

Believe it or not, this was not inspired by smooth criminal go back and look at Janet Jackson’s when I think of you video this is actual continuation from that music video! Completely different time. This was the zoot suit era! Whereas Michael Jackson video was inspired by prohibition times with the gangster suits, completely different genre.
to the untrained eye you would think it was inspired by Michael’s smooth criminal video, but it wasn’t! There are lot of misconceptions about that!
