I was in France in 1998. There were a couple of songs that played every day. I didn’t understand the words but the phrasing was catchy. I left the country not knowing who it was.
I was in Turkey buying rugs in 2000. I became friends with one of the shop workers. We would sit around drinking apple tea trying to come to an agreement on prices.
He would talk about Turkey and we were looking for points of shared interest. He asks if I knew Tarkan. He considered him the most famous person in Turkey. I hadn't heard of him. He was surprised and made a kiss kiss sound. That catchy sound was from one of the songs I remembered from France.
I went down the street and bought a bootleg copy of the album. It was a trip down memory lane of a wonderful time in France.
One of my friends from that trip had died in 1999. The song brings back memories of her and France and my friend from Turkey.
    Tarkan Kiss Kiss

His primary education was on classical Turkish classical music. These artists can use their voices like an instrument. This is called "nağme". Tarkan is a singer who uses his voice powerfully and effectively. In popular music you may not understand this very well. Even his voice without instruments is very impressive.

He is also a good man - he is an environmentalist and he also speaks up for human rights and is a philanthropist. He is very likable and down-to-earth. You don't hear celebrity gossip about him. He got married to a very ordinary person during the peak of his fame, he is still with her, and they have a daughter. He posts about his family on social media. So he leads a clean and purposeful life without falling into the traps of fame and sets a good example to young people.

The songs he sang for about 35 years are still played in discos and clubs all around the world, including America and Europa. He made an album in English. He won the World Music Award, which Michael Jackson also won and which is given to very few singers in the world. That's all I have to say..

Without Tears, There’s No Goodbye Memories don’t stay quiet
Those who stay, carry the one who leaves in their heart

    She knows it too

(Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh) She knowingly challenges love
Fearless, she does whatever she wants
Don’t be fooled by my smile, don’t believe what you see or hear
This heart is shattered, broken into ten thousand pieces
With every breath I take, with every step I make
If only she were here, my darling by my side
Fresh as a flower, precious as one-of-a-kind
    Pure as mother’s milk
Dudu dudu lips, drink them up sip by sip
Eyes like the sea, vast and deep
Fresh as a flower, precious as one-of-a-kind
    Pure as mother’s milk
Dudu dudu lips, drink them up sip by sip
Eyes like the sea, vast and deep
I’ve kept all my sorrows bottled up
Living like a human is my right too
The spring inside me is broken now
If it’s impossible to fix, that’s the day we’ll burn
It could rain every day, people can make mistakes
If we hold onto each other, maybe the sun will rise

Hello as some others said he is called "megastar" in Turkey, he was the biggest pop icon in 90s and 00s. His name is pronounced like tar-cannes(just like the French city that is famous for its film festivals). Everyone in Turkey would still know his name.
General concensus is his late work is not as good, people either still like his songs because he is Tarkan or not. If you would check out more from him, I would suggest from his earlier work in 90s, "Ölürüm Sana" or "Kış Güneşi" would be good candidates.

    • @secpozz

He was (and maybe is) the best male singer in Turkey. He was one of the popstars who started his career in early 90’s. His first album was good but the second (1994 aacayipsin), third (1997 ölürüm sana) and fourth albums (2001 karma) were extremely good and he put the bar so high with these ones. No one ever came close to them. A “megastar” nick was given to him, which is well earned and completely deserved.
His albums between 2001-2010 were ok but still, they were nowhere near his 90’s. His 2010-2020 era is like a decline.
Tarkan still has a beautiful, soft, velvety voice; he can sing in multiple rhytyms, languages, and genres.
      My top 5 tarkan songs are;
      Kış güneşi
      Biz nereye
      İkimizin yerine
      Gitti gideli
      Ay

Turkey's music is so rich and Tarkan of course is the king of turkish pop. He has got a lot of great Pop songs, you might enjoy "Geççek", a fantastic motivation song with a great Video, or "Yolla". He has got kind of rock songs as well, such as "Ölürüm sana". Or, if you like sad slow ballads, you might like "Gitme" (Don't go). There is so much good Turkish music to discover. Thanks for your reaction and love from Germany ❤️

But here it is definitely 🔥🔥🔥Tarkan has the ability to play with his voice, especially when he sings Classical Turkish songs from the Ottoman period.

    Ağlamadan ayrılık olmaz
    Hatıralar uslu durmaz
    Kalanlar gideni gönlünde taşır
    Aşk sevene yük olmaz
    Biz böyle bilir, böyle yaşarız
    O da biliyor
    (Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh) O da seviyor
(Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh) Bile bile kafa tutuyor aşka

Tuz buz oldu bu kalp, ah on bin parça
Aldığım her nefeste, attığım her adımda
    Bur'da olsa, cancağızım yanımda olsa

Ata ata dertleri hep içime attım
İnsan gibi yaşamak benim de hakkım
    İçimdeki zemberek kırıldı artık
Tamiri mümkün değil ise işte o gün yandık
Her gün yağmur yağabilir, insan hata yapabilir
    Birbirimize tutunursak belki güneş doğabilir
    O da biliyor

I would like to enlighten you a bit about Tarkan’s songs. Typically, no other artist can sing Tarkan’s songs with the same emphasis, intensity, and beauty. There are a few reasons for this, and when you set aside his beautiful voice and talent, these factors elevate Tarkan to star status. When creating his songs and before recording them, Tarkan develops his own unique style by crafting a character in front of the mirror that syncs with his body movements. As a result of this meticulous and special process, many of his songs have become hits. In Türkiye, when we hear other artists perform Tarkan’s songs, we usually don’t enjoy them as much because only he can truly sing them the best! If a composition doesn’t align with his body language, he definitely won’t include it in his repertoire. By the way, I appreciated your analysis-thanks!

I am a turkish person who doesnt listen to turkish music very much except tarkan and im a big fan of his, he has some good music back in the day the entire "ölürüm sana" and "karma" albums are pitch perfect..musically "kir zincirlerini" is very ahead of his time so would recomend you to make a reaction on that and he is also very famous of his dance moves so should reach to "kuzu kuzu" as well and the vibrato you re talkin about it what we called nağme dont know what its called in english but it is very common in turkish classical music.

It was a long time ago.. When I first encountered his music, I was a young boy who was just entering puberty. He is definitely a mega star from my perspective. At that age, my elders compared me to Tarkan. When I looked at myself in front of the mirror, I thought how handsome I looked and danced to Tarkan's songs. And when I first fell in love, his emotional songs accompanied me.
So it completely corresponded to my exciting years. It is very valuable. When the song Dudu Dudu came out, I was in the military. When I went on weekend leave, this song was played everywhere in Istanbul. Tarkan had a big place in my life when he was young. Almost every song of his reminds me of a memory.

8:35 Speaking mid-song or like reading a short poem was quite common amongst Turkish singers especially back in the 90ies. He doesn't always do that, or it was specific to this performance. This song was originally recorded with this "poetic" gap, perhaps to give a pause to the catchy rhytm and drop the final blow after it.

He was pretty famous all over the world in the 2000’s. He also made an english album called “Bounce” while he was living in NY
Now he is making songs in Turkey.
