Loved the reaction! By the way I just want to give a little fun fact here if someone else hasn't yet :) The maNga's song "We Could Be The Same" is a bit deeper than you thought. It's not exactly about love at first sight and not knowing your crushes name etc but could be interpreted that way as well. However, it is actually a call to the Eurovision contest or the EU about racism and discrimination. "For just one night we could be the same" The night here is the Eurovision night ofc :) It gives the message that we don't know much about each other but no matter our cultural differences Turkey has love for Europe, let us all leave everything aside and be the same tonight. The difference theme is underlined in the show with the robot concept. It doesn't have to be specifically about Turkey but I suppose aroud those times Turkey was ambitious about entering the EU so this song could be a nice message (:

Our Eurovision Songs generally had sub-dimensions about Europe, politics, racism etc... We are just good at express them as love songs... For Real also has a meaning like "We are in Turkey, this is real (Turkey was the host at that time) and we will bring the joy to you with our song!"
Mor ve Ötesi is also a Turkish rock band that participated in Eurovision. While their staging wasnt great their song Deli is actually my favorite!

Athena is my favourite band and I wish they were more International because I think they’re one of the rare rock bands that actually do rock songs, in general I think Turkish rock bands are really good but Athena holds a special place in my heart to be honest

Well Athena was pretty good, I watched both stage performances life and I'm still no fan of one of these bands. But for me the MaNga song is much better and was the best song of 2010 and with "deli" of the band "Mor ve Ötesi" my Top3 in Turkey's Eurovision best of list.

btw generally rock bands - (generally) gives messeages toı europe in eurovision deeply mor ve ötesi also did it.. Those days were way back turkey was not thhat much seen as middle east country... but still was (majority) muslim (but secular) country that was the reason we were blocked mainly from european union those were the days my friend... So generally rock bands that i remember that joined that contest gave messages about it like; we could be the same...

Shawn and Trey, This is interesting, a Eurovision Turkish song battle. The first song has a colorful video presentation like you said. The music is upbeat and energetic. Cool showmanship and party atmosphere like you said Trey, cool comment Shawn on the guns. Lol You are right about the crowd getting into the performance. The second song is a hard rocking song. You are right about the lights flashing and the song rocking out with good musicianship. You guys both chose the first song as the winner. I'll agree and choose the first song. It had moire of a fun atmosphere. A colorful Eurovision song battle John.

@@poetgb Although both songs are unique on their own, I think the fact that Athena sand their song on home turf makes the difference. The athmosphere in the arena really adds more to the total vibe of the song. Not that I mean that Mangas song was bad or something...
I will try to give a starter pack of good music in Greece with 2 lists of some of the most important bands/artists in Greece and a song as an example 1st the english singing and then the greek singing. 10 of each is limiting but then it would be little too long for a beginner. So from english: Aphrodite's Child - 4 horsemen ( you might know Demis Roussos ( Ντέμης Ρούσσος)or Vangelis Papathanasiou( Βαγγέλης Παπαθανασίου)from his film music ( Blade Runner, the 2nd Greek to win an Oscar for music with Chariots of Fire), Socrates (Drank the Conium) - Starvation, Sharp Ties - Get that beat, Raining Pleasure - Fake, Matisse - 5 seconds of love,Gad - Over the moon, Cyanna - Perfect mistake, Leon of Athens - Lifeline, Stella - Picking words and Nightstalker - Children of the sun. For greek i will write it in greek and how it should be pronounced with and the meaning so for the greek: Παύλος Σιδηρόπουλος (Pavlos Sidiropoulos, the d should be pronounced like th in this and you can understand which syllable to emphasize from the greek intonations) - Ο Μπάμπης ο φλου( O Babis o flu = Babis( male short name) the vague in slang) and he was the biggest rock star in Greece until his death in '90, Τρύπες ( Tripes=Holes) - Δεν χωράς πουθενά ( Then horas pouthena = You don't fit anywhere) and they are considered the most important rock band in Greece, Ξύλινα Σπαθιά(Xilina Spathia=Wooden swords, the x should be pronounced like cs in physics) - Ατλαντίς ( Atlantis), Διάφανα Κρίνα(Diafana krina = Transparent lillies, again the d like th in this) - Μέρες αργίας (Meres aryias = Days of holiday, the y like year), Μωρά στη φωτιά( Mora sti fotia = Babies in fire) - Η φωλιά του κούκου( E folia tou koukou = The cuckoo's nest), Ενδελέχεια(Endeleheia = Thoroughness, d= th in this) - Ο Κατάδικος (O Katadikos = The Felon, same with d), Κόρε Ύδρο( Kore Ydro ( short for koresmeno ydrogono = saturated Hydrogen) same with d) - Τώρα που δεν έχω κανέναν( Tora pou then eho kanenan = Now that I don't have anyone), Ρόδες (Rodes= Wheels, again the d) - Αφροδίτες ( Afrodites ), well basically when i use a d i probably mean like th in this), Lolek - Ο Μάρκος ( O Markos( Mark)), Μίκρο( Mikro) - ,Δεν δε φοβάμαι (Then se fovame = I'm not afraid of you). If you check them out and like it I can give you a few more that I left out

i remember athena before they get famous and used to gig in my local bar in fethiye ,they used to play very heavy & punk then they change their style and start on ska music and get famous , manga remind me turkish linkin park :)

Alright so, since the editing is shite, the woman on the first video is actually sitting behind the singer the whole time in a black hoodie playing a drum-type instrument.
Additionally you are more right then you think when you say "we better not win this twice." At some point Athena's Gökhan (the singer) said in an interview: "Yeah the administration told us not to have a serious entry, so we just had fun with it"

To be frank, Turkish songs are very beautiful. But if you ask many Turkish young people, they prefer K-Pop or foreign music because they are on the agenda so much, although they like Turkish songs, they do not consider them excessive. In the song of the manga, the fact that our group is 2 is the biggest reason why we do not participate. Because a great injustice has been done and there is racism here, in fact the song already refers to this, we can all be the same, even if it was in one night. For this reason, Turkey's votes were halved due to participation in Turkish races and political reasons. Some countries consider this issue to be a priority, and our chances of winning have dropped significantly. This is the biggest obstacle for us not to participate. But I want them to join They owe us first place.

İt is a political song to criticize Eurovision Song Contest and the political games that back in the stage. Group was Mor ve Ötesi they became 7th place in 2008. The group's English pretty good but they insisted to sing in Turkish to criticize 😉 (Mor ve Ötesi -Deli)
