My Favourites - Turkey 2003 and The Netherlands 2019 🙂
My favourite of all time was the German song of 1982, a little loving, then Johnny Logan with Hold me now. Celine Dion was up there too.

The European songs competition was better in the past compared nowadays.
Hi I was just watching this to see which year it all started to go downhill. It was around 2001. I haven't watched it for years now where before I'd never miss it.
I'd say it started to go downhill in the early '90'.

why is the audio vanishing every now and then? you can't appreciate the performances and have to rewind every now and then.

This used to be a song contest where the writers of the song were credited and they had an orchestra playing. The singers got up on stage and sang.
It has now morphed more into the value of the stage production, special effects, backing dancers and how bizarre their clothes are, or lack of them all performed to a backing track.
Whatever someone identifies as their gender has little to nothing to do with the song they're singing. I think they should rename this contest as it's nothing to do with being the writer of a winning song anymore.
So correct. It had "class." That doesn't exist anymore.
The orchestra had its limitations in terms of sound diversity. I prefer the use of the backing track.
The other issues you mention are a separate development, and they're actually major reasons why EuroVision is still successful: most people secretly love watching all the bizarre acts and weirdos on stage.
Things evolve and grow. There are hundreds of plain old song contests. The one thing that makes eurovsion stand out is the production and the performances. Eurovision is known now for that. It wouldn't last and grow if it stayed the same way
Loreen is the first woman and second person to win twice. We are also the second country three times in the 2000 century after Ukraine.
While some had(have) to wait 50 years... no wonder EBU keeps loosing it.

I wanted Finland to win but it didnt, also i was extremly chocked how Spain only got 5 points from televote also im very mad and upset that Armenia ONLY got 14th place i mean its good but it deserved to be in the top 10 it was my favourite and probably the weirdest part was when serbia got only 30 points in total

people who think that there used to be better songs are probably older people. until 1980 I have the impression that nothing changes. Nowadays, much more is demanded of artists. music is one thing, but the show, dance, outfit, carrier of emotions, etc. do not move in one place

There were definitely surprises with basically all countries except for Sweden and Finland in the Televote but I can’t express how happy I am right now, LOREEN DID IT AGAIN! 🇸🇪🏆

Everyone salty at Loreen winning needs to remember that this is a contest about unity and that your favourite doesn’t always win. Loreen did an incredible job as did Kaarija and the result was determined fair and square. There are more things to worry about in life. Be grateful that Eurovision is in our lives. How boring would it be without it 😁
Sweden will put on an amazing contest, and Finland being first in the televote is a great outcome for them. Everyone is a winner here ☺️

Thank you very much for sharing! I can see that the quality was excellent in the beginning. Then, halfway into the 90s and in the 2010's, there were some bad winners, and in the end, the quality was back again! Something that I've noticed and don't hate me for saying it but the winners of each year take risks and chances with the songs that they sing which is what the music industry is about taking those musical risks while hoping that it'll pay off. Take the two Eurovision two time winners John Logan and Lorren as a good example they went from being happy with "euphoria" to a more mournful tune with "tatoo" and Logan did the exact same thing with "just another year " and "hold me now " but both songs tackled the same issues just from two different and changed with time perspectives and different tones which is a risk especially when you're known for doing one thing... I'm just saying

Why did 1969 and other years have so many winners?
In 1969 there was no tiebreak rule in place so as four countries ended up with the same amount of points they were all crowned the winner.
In 1991 both Sweden and France ended up with the same amount of points but the rule favoured the country that got more 10 points from the juries (Sweden ×5 to France x2) so Sweden was crowned the winner
