This song has a special meaning to me :it was the favorite song of my sister who died in 1976, when she was 17 years old. I was 9 at that time! I remember like it was yesterday how she danced to that song and sent me air kisses! On the anniversary of her death, I have been playing this song every year since then and dance with her in my mind! Always in my heart, my big sister! ❤️
I heard this song on my dad’s AM radio station all the time growing up. My dad recently passed away so I looked up the song out of curiosity. It hit me so hard in the feels when I realized it’s a parent singing to their child. All of those memories hearing this song have a whole new context and I’m all the more grateful for those countless previously-mundane memories ❤️ I love you dad.
I loved this song so much. I was eight yrs of age and after they won I ran out into the farm singing it out from my heart. ❤️🇮🇪. Years later I was told I had a beautiful voice, looking back I didn't even realise it at the time. Wow, the innocence!
When my daughter was twelve, I played this song for her...she seemed to like it, but when she heard the line "even though you're only three"...she looked at me and said "aaawwww"!!!!!...and almost cried because it was so adorable...
The song is now 45 years old - and has lost none of its fascination. It cannot be overestimated that it was played live by a "real" large orchestra and - with the exception of the electric bass - completely without electronics. As an arranger, you had to think about how to set the orchestration (I like what the pianist plays especially well), the musicians still had to read notes and the drummer had to keep the exact tempo and everyone would play together and rely on each other can. It is a shame that in our short-lived times only relatively few do the work and still work with orchestras. An evergreen, still not a bit old-fashioned or boring - and it's nice that the four - aged with dignity - are still standing together on stage! Great! Greetings from Germany near Cologne to Great Britain.
I totally agree. If I heard the prerecorded version of this I would be absolutely stumped if someone asked me to arrange an orchestral version. The idea of light music (music that isn't classical which could include any genre otherwise) being played by an orchestra amazes me.
Too bad about the electric bass. Ruined the entire thing. Also the electricity in the microphones. I also realize that it wouldn't be possible to sing in this casual way over the orchestra without amplification. On further reflection, it would be utterly impossible to perform this without electricity. Technology = electricity and all technology is bad when it comes to music. Trumpets aren't technology. You simply pick them off of trees. The only pure music is banging two rocks together.
@@ryzenoctavianGosh, if orchestral arrangements of pop suit you, please give a listen to our "Boston Pops" and I believe you will enjoy them! Also give a listen and watch here on YT, of the "The Good,The Bad, And The Ugly" theme. It's by the Danish National Orchestra or some such. Spellbinding!

Ten years ago, when my interest in Eurovision resurfaced, I only thought this was an amusing song of the times, and preferred the likes of France to win. Now, however, I am unable to resist this song's charm - I knew every word after only a few listens, and the dance routine after only an additional few. Such a sweet, earnest song about a father's love for his child can only make you feel good. A most deserved winner for the UK, an evergreen classic (even though I love France too!).

Old memories and a lot of old childhood happy beautiful memories always fill my mind whenever I listen to this 1976 world over hit song. We were in those days in Turkey as my father was posted there from his office in Pakistan for three years i.e from 1974 to 1977. I did my one year kinder Garten from a Christian school in Pakistan the name of which was presentation convent which is still a reputed school located at the same place in Lalkurti,Rawalpindi. So after that I did my classes one to three in Turkey. Childhood days are the nicest days of one's life I believe with no worries and carefree lives of us before starting our very fast and tough routined practical lives, running from here to there and facing new challenges each and every day. Actually my whole family is a music loving family and another chronic problem with our family members is that we all are the fans of the same singers and actors of the world, that's a nice sign and it seems as if we all are at the same page. So when this song was released , in those days my father bought a 90 minute tdk cassette and gave it to one of his friends to record it over and over again up til the end of the given cassette.,moreover he used to play it most of the times when he was at home.,and you know that how sharp are the brains of the children when they are small according to the psychaitrists. We were three siblings, me and my two younger brothers,so we kept on learning automatically by heart whatever was being played during that particular period of our innocent childhood lives, by our elders..Now I am 51 years of age and happily married for 23 years mashaAllah. God Allah the almighty bless you people of the entire band. The poetry of the song was so touching, people use to cry after listening to it. We children also witness such moving scenes at our home off and on as our father use to go for official duties to different cities and counties of the world throughout his official career. My father died at the age of about 72 years on 12th of may Monday 2014 ,12th of Rajab1435AH. He was a very pious person ,may his soul rest in peace..05:.00am,hot and humid monsoon,Friday,30th of august,2019,Zilhaj28th,1440.AH , Rawalpindi,Islamic Republic of Pakistan .Asia. Mrs Afzal Mian .

They are too busy twerking, tweeting and making scandal and controversy, so nobody notices that they have no talent.
If we start doing sweet and cheerful songs like this again,we might actually win again x
You are lucky to have a good taste
My young son sang this all day. He was 2,5 years old at that time and could not yet pronounce all consonants correctly, which made it sound hilarious 😊.

Better than anything in 2023. I was at my friend’s parents’ 25th wedding anniversary part and I remember they stopped the disco and announced that Brotherhood of Man had won Eurovision. Great song.
2022, Sam Ryder? 😮
