Great to see my old friend, Johhny Harris, taking the baton when he conducted the orchestral backing for Lulu,s Euro; Song effort, which he also arranged and orchestrated for her. So sad that he passed away barely a month ago, at his home in Palm Springs, leaving his lovely wife, Laura, and their children. From living in Paddington, he toured the world, backing all the greatest singing stars of the 50s/60s/ 70, and 80s, also conducting on two Royal Command performances, with Lulu, and Tom Jones. A great loss to the world of music.
I was in the dormitory of an English boarding school listening to her song on the radio. I can see now that she was an exceptionally expressive singer in her days.
I've played this 6 times in the past 3 days and not sure if it was because she's got a fantastic voice hitting high notes with ease OR because she looks gorgeous. Maybe BOTH. Totally Underrated.
@@plumberman4u Hi, ok then but seems Chee'sy now. Expectations were high then and when we didn't win it was the end of the world. Abba changed the image of Eurovision song contest and moved it in to the 20th Century. I was 17 you never forget those times I was a great fan of Lulu, I think the way she looked helped the song. Actually I loved the song, I used to play a lot of Lulu on the piano, by ear, and particularly that song. It was an era, not like now
I was not born for 20 more years but it sure is etched into my memory as one of the best Eurovision songs ever, I would almost say "the best" but I really like so many songs from Eurovision that it's like a shared number 1 spot with 100+ other songs lmao. Damn, even in a mind of a fan, she can never solo-win, huh?
I am in the USA and I was a preteen in the late 1960s. I believe they showed at least the winning entry from Eurovision on TV over here in those days, because I remember watching this performance and thinking “ I hope she doesn’t overstretch her arms.” Excellent song
Well What can l say my lovely Dad clearing out your house today coming across your song Boom Bang a Bang writing the lyrics for Eurovision Song Contest in 1969 . . You have been a wonderful father to us and we will miss you . So sorry you caught Covid in hospital and died 29 th December 2020 . I have lovely memories of us going to see Lulu when she came to Warwick Art Centre in 2017 . She invited us backstage, you took her some flowers she was delightful and made us very welcome. We stayed and chatted for ages . I took back a very contented person . Sending you big hugs in Heaven, so sorry l didn’t get to cuddle you at all for over a year but had to protect you but sadly you still ended up catching Covid . Will love you forever. 😩💔😪
Memories are made of music. I grew up when cassettes were replacing vinyl records. I borrowed a turntable from a friend to listen to my dad's old vinyl collection. The moment I started playing this song my mom came running from the kitchen, all smiling and asked, "Where did you get this song from?" I told her its from dad's old vinyl collection. That was the time I realized that music is an integral part of our memories. RIP mom.
I saw Lulu at Southend 21/05/15,she is now 66 years old & still hits the notes & looks fantastic.I was looking through Lulu RUclips videos & found this one. What is enticing is that she has a very expressive face & eyes. The song is enhanced by her totally professional & alluring stage presence.A True star in anybodies book.
mrsteve hartman I actually still have "In the Morning" on an original BeeGees vinyl album.I had not seen this video footage so thanks for the heads up on it.
Yes and you can see that even at just 20, she knew how to sing to a camera and sell a song. So many of our reality TV acts could learn from this clip alone.
Totally live in the old days unlike today. Great whimsical pop from one of the best female vocalists ever with a real "Boom Bang a Bang".Worthy if shared winner.

@Porter Lewis Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Una gran voz, la de Lulu, y una canción bonita y peculiar que la hizo ganar este festival de Eurovisión, además, con un vestido y un peinado de lo más atractivo en aquella época. Gracias, John1948EightD, por poner este vídeo.
Funny beginning, where they're looking for a conductor called Johnny Worries to haul up to the podium, even though there's no room to swing a cat up there. Those who remember Lulu's TV show on Saturday evenings would know that the name of Lulu's band leader was actually Johnny Harris. For those who didn't know, I am sad to say that Johnny Harris had lung cancer and died in America this year (2020). Listening to the accompaniment on this Lulu track will demonstrate just how good a musician Johnny Harris was.
I saw this on the BBC show Back in Time for Dinner. I wanted to see her full performance. I'm not disappointed. That is such a cute song! I love her hair and dress. 😀❤👗
A great performance from the lovely Lulu and a well deserved win, even though it had to be shared with three others. Lulu is now 70 and i have to say she looks FaBuLoUs
Wish this wouldn’t come up on my post miss you Dad Michael Julien 10 months on was hoping l could not go a day without crying . You were a gentleman and l miss you very much . Play Boom a Bang in Heaven 😘
Proud of a fellow 'wegie', she looked extremely cute here, singing an interminably catchy song with passion. I was 10 when she did it. Good luck to her.
This Scottish/British Multi Talented Lady only got to No2 in the UK Charts with this (It got to No1 in Ireland though because they Love their Eurovision!) even though it was Joint Winner of Eurovision along with France, Spain & the Netherlands!, She would have to wait till the 1990's for Her 1st UK No1 Singing alongside Take That!.
My 2nd favorite UK winner, Lulu was bound to finish Top 3 that year and "Boom Bang a Bang" still sounds modern to this day! Shame she didn't perform it at the closing ceremony of 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. If the tie break rule which was introduced a year later had been in use it would've been yet another 2nd place for United Kingdom!
+Jack Walker I don't agree with the "tie break rule" because for those time, after 1969, they set up a new rule which consisted in that every country in that "tie" would sing again, and the countries which were not involved in this tie would vote again. So, we don't know. Anyway, as a spaniard, I can say that something amazing happened the only year that we hosted the contest in Madrid, that's nice, don't you? Good luck for this year in the ESC and I hope you like our song.
I really like Barei - Say Yay! and I hope Spain get back on the left hand side this year, a victory for them would be fantastic for Europe and your country. Best of luck in Stockholm!
It's a very good performance, taking into account the era and technology available. I do think they should have had some better sound check rehearsals to avoid her voice being drowned out by the band during the chorus though.

Lulu may not have liked the song but man, does she put it over with infectious flair!
When Eurovision and pop music in general was still pure quality. Nice !
Her voice and stylizing are so distinctive and precious!…Just got finished watching “To Sir with Love” after not having seen it in decades…
Lulu was married to Maurice Gibb.
I was in the dormitory of an English boarding school listening to her song on the radio. I can see now that she was an exceptionally expressive singer in her days.
Lulu still looks young. UK's 2nd Eurovision winner! 🇬🇧 plus this is the pretty the sort of song you'd expect Lulu to sing. Full energy and youth.
been marathoning Him & Her. song is stuck in my head
me too
Great programme 😊
What tf is Him & Her!
I've played this 6 times in the past 3 days and not sure if it was because she's got a fantastic voice hitting high notes with ease OR because she looks gorgeous.

@karmasdoor i meant underrated as a singer BEFORE & AFTER eurovision.

OMG I remember sitting watching this, only it was in black and white.
This song really reminds me of my school days.
I was 10 when this came out...I’m 60 now but still listen to lulu ...loved the 60s
I just was 8 years old back than and i am still having this song in my head,
Hi from a German
Back in the 60's we had a pocket radio. This was my favourite song
Come closer, come closer and listen
The beat of my heart keeps on missing
I notice it most when we?re kissing
Come closer and love me tonight
That's right
Come closer and cuddle me tight
My heart goes
Boom bang-a-bang, boom bang-a-bang
When you are near
Boom bang-a-bang, boom bang-a-bang
Loud in my ear
Pounding away, pounding away
Won't you be mine?
Boom bang-a-bang-bang all the time
It?s such a lovely feeling
When I'm in your arms
Don't go away
I want to stay my whole life through
Boom bang-a-bang-bang
Close to you
Your smile is so warm and inviting
The thought of your kiss is exciting
So hold me and don't keep me waiting
Come closer and love me tonight
That's right
Come closer and cuddle me tight
My heart goes
Boom bang-a-bang, boom bang-a-bang
When you are near
Boom bang-a-bang, boom bang-a-bang
Loud in my ear
Pounding away, pounding away
Won't you be mine?
Boom bang-a-bang-bang all the time
It?s such a lovely feeling
When I'm in your arms
Now you are near
I want to hear your heartbeat too
Boom bang-a-bang-bang
I love you
It?s such a lovely feeling
When I'm in your arms
Now you are near
I want to hear your heartbeat too
Boom bang-a-bang-bang
Boom bang-a-bang-bang
Boom bang-a-bang-bang
I love you

I saw Lulu (born in Glasgow) on the telly last night.
She looked about 23 years old. Yet at 71, she is older than I am.
It must be all those fried mars bars.
The Buckie...?
So full of life.
So many years since I last heard It...
And an "Olé" right at the end, just to keep the Spaniards happy.
Una hermosa mujer inolvidable cancion saludos desde Santiago de Chile.
I always thought she looked much older than she was there, she looked better as she got older.
Thanks just found this and love it
I know she did a special with The Carpenters at one point. Wish I could find it somewhere
LOL I love the "o lay" at the end. The best part of the song!
The best song Lulu has ever sung.
Year of my birth was that, so i suppose my parents followed lulus sage advice the year before....
