@Belltown Daisy smoke smell is not a health risk, just a severe annoyance. And everyone with a brain will be wearing painter's masks to do the cleaning.
I just bought a house that I think someone smoked in, What did do to get rid of the smell? and how did it turn out?
@@thegalaticskytrader665 First thing we did was remove the gross yellowed Carpets and any fabric from the home we could. That helped a ton! Then we washed everything, and I mean all of it. The wall's, stairs, windows, cabinets. All of it with soap and disinfectant. Then we removed the popcorn ceilings, which were also yellowed and repainted the ceilings. Then as we painted each room we started with a layer of white "Kills primer" that blocks smell. finally I had a company come in and clean the air ducts.
By the time we did that the smell was basically gone, but they were gross, and I have allergies, so it felt nice to do. We also changed the air filter on day one as well as once we were done cleaning. Only took a couple of weeks to get rid of all the smoke smell. The only place I still notice it is in the garage, which we did not have time to clean before winter. That's one of my projects now that its nicer outside. Overall it took a lot of work, but the house is so much nicer now.
@@darkroselight3835 Thank you so much for your response, we are in the processes of doing all the cleaning and repainting currently. I already removed all the carpet and working on washing the walls before repainting with kills primer like you mentioned. What disinfectant did you use? and recommend? Im currently using vinegar and water.
@@thegalaticskytrader665 We mostly used vinegar/water as well. Bleach in a few places that were particularly yellowed more for the sence of getting it really clean. The water also helpped us get rid of old wall paper in a few spots that was also holding smell. Good Luck! I hope it turns out great!

I would believe it impacts 29%! Washing before painting can be super helpful! Ozone machines are great BUT also FRESH air is HUGE!!!!

I just returned to my home (after being away for 4 years) and the smell was so overwhelming I thought I was surrounded by a colony of stinkbugs. After going through the home evaluating what needed to be repaired, etc. among these appliances, I learned that softeners can actually ruin the washing machine. Long story short, someone told me that during the recent shutdown, and due to a lack of goods, they had used the softener to mop and clean to refresh the baseboards. I took (several) buckets and with softener mixed with water, I started washing down furniture. To my dismay, the gunk that came off of it was a color similar to that of coffee stains only it was sticky. After wiping the furniture, baseboards, hand-railings, door frames, doors, and walls with a microfiber cloth soaked with this mix, removing and tossing curtains (that could not be washed) the house began to smell a lot better. I will try the scented oil in the vinegar to spray the ac returns. Thank you for the ideas.

This is great. I own a condo and live on the third floor. The woman on the first floor smokes. I was gone for over a year and now the smell is brutal and I’ve tired a lot of things. That’s for the video.

Hahaha, it's not your fault "this time!" I ran into this a couple weeks ago. The buyers loved everything about the house but the smell. The listing agent swore up and down that it didn't smell like smoke. 🙄Talk about being nose blind.
Its true my dads smokes in his house and you go there to visit for a few days and EVERYTHING has to be washed twice back home to get rid of the smell. Its bad like. Even my laptop and chargers have to be scrubbed down.

So what do you do if you’re renting and your neighbors smoke and it’s making your house smell like smoke (like I woke up our first night and thought someone broke in and was smoking in the house).

Many people when they smoke they are really unpolite smoking close to others in public or common environments. There are MANY people with allergy and breathing problems out there and when is a need to stay in some place watching over the cigarette smoke comes first. I dont know if people with a cigarette in their hands really realize how much that smoke affects others lives and health.

I work construction and refuse to ride with anybody that smokes in work trucks. I will tell the owner immediately.
No one is allergic to cigarette smoke, no one has heath problems because of people smoking outdoors. We smokers have already been shunned to the elements so the very least non-smokers can do is move away and quit bitching. It is outside for christ sake, there is not a non-smoking section outside (F the people who think there is).

I found the perfect house but I’m concerned about the cigarette smell. The amount of work to scrub and repaint every surface including the ceiling just seems daunting not to mention the HVac and duct work. I’m totally bummed 😩
another video said take a paint roller and roll TSP mixed in a bucket of water on to ceiling and walls and wipe down - worked GREAT
All A/C Duct work HAS to be replaced.
So I almost started a kitchen fire this morning and it's been 13 hours and the smell is still in the house. The thing that caught on fire was a Plastic Bowl. How do I get the scent out?

Recently i just burnt what my mom cooked, and the smoke everywhere is foggy and very thick. It had been 3 days now, and the smoke is just too strong until now. Will the smoke go by itself? Even though it reached the walls?
Justeen Cham this has more to do with smoking cigs in a house. If you burnt food - I’d start with airing it out as much as possible. Maybe a deep cleaning. There are also so odor absorbers at the local store that could help too
I just moved into a apartment that has bad cigarette smell in the house because it's on the wall and ceiling it's all brown on the all the walls because of it 😑

If walls were already repainted (to cover nicotine resin), should they be stripped?
Best to clean the wall (best of it has TSP). Then use an odor sealing primer and then painting. Hope that helps :-)
Thank you, but I don’t think I asked the right question. If homeowners painted over smelly, nicotine-stained walls before listing their home for sale, will cleaning the (newly) painted walls (with the recommended cleaner) help eradicate the underlying contamination? Realtor is telling me that it’s sufficient to simply paint over everything with a deodorizing primer.
I believe the big concern about cleaning it is if there’s built up residue the paint might not hold as well. However, I’m not a professional in that field but dealt with it a bunch.
B DeHart realtor full of 💩, you need to seal the tar in with a shellac primer or it will bleed through the wall. I wish I’d know more before taking my house on. I would have offered less knowing now how much work I have to do.!

Any way of stopping the smoke from coming inside of an apartment from a neighbor that smokes? I've been exposed to the smell for about 3 weeks and its getting to a point that is no longer comfortable to live in the apartment. Ive been getting allergies, burning eyes and burning throat from how bad it is. Any legal action I can take would help to since the land lord isn't doing much about it.
Cheitoh12 much tougher task unfortunately. Smoke can come through the smallest of holes, many of which you might not know exist. Only going to help if they can seal all communications or the person stops smoking.
Same here!!! Those people need special areas for their addiction. Nobody has the obligation to smell that suffocation air.
I am a home owner with a similar problem. My neighbor two doors down is a chain smoker and now everything in my house, including me, smells like smoke. 🤮

ozone generators do not work. I've tried them several times and it does nothing.

Is there something like a smoke smell that can be from a furnace or dryer instead of a smoker? There's a smoke smell in our house but its somewhat faint, and not like a smoker but something like it feels a bit subtle. Its different but still noticeable. And looking for what could be the cause.
I’d have the appliance looked at to make sure it’s not shorting out. Could be a fire hazard.

So i just rented a place and i am starting to smell the weed smoke and cigarette smoke!! The landlord knew i was moving in with 2 toddlers, I’m very angry he didn’t mention that to me. I am not a smoker and hate the smell of those 2 things!!! I hope i can find a way to get rid of it.

@@Rikki-lh2mw it’s ridiculous how these landlords don’t think about their tenants. Especially those with little kids. I thank god broke the lease a month later, but he refused to give me back my deposit. I was pretty mad but thank god he let me brreak it without going to court.

Places was full of Stink Nicotines I had to pain the bedroom 4 times, can you imagine!!!

That doesn't work. The smell travels through the HVAC unit. Also the resin gets into everything. If you're going to smoke, go outside.
Anne Ann not to sure about that my buddy build his room (man cave) in his basement and we smoke cigars some do weed....he has his door pretty sealed there’s a ductless AC on there with a set of exit vent with forced fans literally just blowing straight outside, and on the opposite side of the room there’s a pretty large air purifier he said it has like carbon filters for Odor. All I know if when I do go over to hang out when we walk in I never smell anything outside the door and inside well naturally there’s a bit! If smell and old leather smells like a humidor with very cool air in there but it’s expected to have some type of smell because the point is for the rest of the hole to not smell so if it’s not going past his door! It’s all gravy

I can't stand nicotine second hand smoke don't bother Me in public if I'm talking outside to a smoker but I can't stand that crap in My house I'm just spraying house with all kind of things including carb cleaner under house. Don't let people smoke in Your house I'm getting a gallon of deodorants and will spray every day. I have spray and will spray all days that's something you won't get not blind nicotine smells like solid poop. I'm going to bleach walls and glades to. Rule of thumb don't allow people to light up in Your house
so as a renter between a smoker below my apartment and smokers in the stairwell, i just have to set my clothes on fire to get the smell out is what you’re saying

@@CoffeeWithColeman brb i’m just crying. when i’m home my clothes* seem like they don’t smell but when i travel they smell horrendous packed in a suitcase or when i wear perfume i’ll get a whiff of the cigarette smell off my clothes

I would never buy a smoker's house. That stuff is nasty and toxic.
I read that ozone machines only deaden the sense of smell, not remove odor. I’ve found conflicting info on these machines unfortunately.
There are easier ways to get rid of the smells.

So, the ozone machines are dangerous to humans and animals. Ozone affects the lungs and mucus membranes. If you use one, don't be in the house (take out all pets). Don't use it longer than 2 hours, and air your house out with every door and window open for at least 2 hours (4 hours would be better). Definitely not recommended to use an ozone machine, I don't even recommend thinking about an ozone machine. Do a ton of research (I have) and be warry of potential health problems for your family and pets....also if you are a smoker (like me) and you want to sell your house, sell it to a smoker. Don't let a non-smoker lower your asking price just because he doesn't like the smoke smell. # movement to keep non smokers outside.
