I want Yongary to fight Pulgasari
I'd absolutely watch that.
Oh, yeah 😎👍🏻! And while we’re at it, how about Gappa vs. Guilala 😎?
DiamandaHagan Here is my idea for Yonggary vs Pulgisari, Yonggary goes on a rampage and destroys South Korea. Seeing the South weakened, North Korea desires a strike on the south in order to take back the southern half. A man learns of the legend of Pulgisari, skip a lot of plot and Yonggary is duking it out with Pulgisari on the North-South border that seperates the 2 countries!
I want both of them in the Monsterverse.
No, I want godzilla to fight Gulaila, Yonggary, Pulgasari, and Orochi
Surprisingly this isn’t a Gojira knockoff. Just pure attempt to make their own kaiju movie. Thats why Toho technicians even helped them making it.
When I was 6 years old living in Korea, I watched this movie at a theater in Seoul, sitting in the front row. It was spooky coming face-to-face that close with a giant monster! That bridge he dies by I had been driven over it many times by my dad and, that set was an excellent representation of how things looked there back then.
Wow, how cool!! Thanks for sharing that! :)
also, something to note. Some of Yongary's sets were reused from Toei's "Golden Bat" superhero film and later reused for "Giant Robo" aka Johnny Sokko
Interesting! By coincidence, I just recently watched "Golden Bat" for the first time.
ah. It seems that Toei had a pretty tight schedule when it came to their 1960's related work
Unfortunately, this is not true - because the miniatures sets were constructed and shot on sound stages in South Korea, not Japan. Shipping said miniatures back to Japan not only would have been problematic and expensive, but completely impractical.
August Ragone I never knew that. I heard someone tell me Toei shot it at their studio and the sets kinda looked similar so I thought it was true. Thanks again August for clarifying :)
Thanks for the info, August!
Yongary - the monster with "Seoul"....I love it.
Ok, no one can deny that Yongary out-cutes Godzilla..........He's SO charming! 2:04
I always thought Yongary was a straight copy of Godzilla. But turns out he was a Gamera rip. Thanks for teaching me something new.
Ah, about Masao Yagi... his son, Tsutomu Yagi, he participate in the production of three Taiwanese Kamen Rider Adaptation movie, The Super Rider, Super Rider V3, The Five Of Super Rider
In Germany, The Super Rider release as Krieg Der Infras and The Super Rider V3 release as Frankensteins Kung Fu Monster
With this covered, you should tackle the South Korean King Kong film, A*P*E
It's on the list. But Mighty Peking Man may have to come first.
if you do Mighty Peking Man you must mention that oh so Lovely blackface scene that appears out of nowhere =P
Geno Cuddy 100% agree
Fuck A*P*E
Yongary Vs. A*P*E
They should totally make that movie
Guess it would be cool to have Yongary in the monsterverse
Khaotic Intent
Don’t forget the Giant Claw (USA), THEM (USA), Pulgasari (North Korea), Gorgo (Britain), and Gamera (Japan) for the Monsterverse. 50/50 on Ultraman, Pacific Rim’s Gipsy Danger, and Evangelion.
Yongary is like Gomora from Ultra monster series.
reptilicus (Denmark)
Yongary is pretty cool. For once I've actually seen this film before. lol He's not as cool as Gamera, but hey, few giant monsters are. That being said, Yongary is totally worth a watch if you love the Giant Monster genre, and I do.
I gotta say, another great video Ed. Good show sir. :)
Thanks very much! And yeah, no one's quite as cool as Gamera.
Great episode. I don't think I've heard of this movie, it does look right up my alley as I'm a big "Godzilla" fan. Also the fact that Yongary spares some buildings where Godzilla just demolishes, no not demolish, ANNIHILATES them, really intrigues me. May have to track this one down.
3:55 Yongary is a nationalist
Pulgasari Vs. Yongari when?
Well Yongary is like Gomora from Ultra series both kaiju can fire beam on it horn and breath fire too.
Wow korea monster movie!!
Thanks for the video. Never heard of this monster.
Another good one, but I caught a gaffe - the man behind constructing the monster suit for Yongary was Masao Yagi, not "Yago."
Oh no!! I really appreciate the catch. I'll update the description and the captions.
Man, how did I mess that up? :O
2:30 why are the people so tall
The new MST3K version of this one is hilarious!
you should show the Korean Wonder Woman animated knock off "Wonder Princess" and those two ET Korean Knockoff
Or even Robot Taekwon V
Daiei helped on Yongary? I never heard that before! Wow!
You didn't hear that here either. He said Toei. It was Toei that helped with Yongary.
DYK?: Yongary is the Korean answer to Godzilla. 🦖🔥🇰🇷
Kinda surprised you didn't mention the original Korean version was lost for quite some time. Hell, I believe it still is, I'm not sure.
Sadly I couldn't fit it in. There's about 48 minutes of low-quality extant footage, and it's been uploaded to RUclips as well: ruclips.net/video/zEE1UerhX8s/видео.html
Awesome review thanks👍
Weakened godzilla vs yongary
once again......you guys make my day! Thank you for this. Btw, left a query on the Superman video just now. Could you please take a look? Thanks!
Ironically Yongary kinda looks like a Gamera or Ultraman
Yayyyy, a new kaiju to watch!! \^_^/ This is my first time hearing about Yongary and I thought I was a pretty decent monster movie fan, so thanks for this ~
Also, Williams Tsutsui was a professor and a dean at my college for a while.. Small world! His book on Godzilla is a good read, I'd check it out if one can find it
this is awesome! you should check out the CRAZY British king Kong "queen kong"
Yongary also was given the MST3K treatment recently as well.
up from the depths, but not from Japan, eats fire, he's of a different brand, yongary, yongary, yongary... he's made of kimchiiii
That, s Definitely Godzilla
Woah, would never expect Ed to name drop Super Sentai.
Haha, you bet!
I hope they're will be review about the lost Korean monster film, Wangmagwi (1967).
Your videos are very interesting and quite entertaining! The one major complaint I have is the “background” music you’ve chosen to use in seemingly EVERY video. It’s too monotonous and loud. Just a thought that you may think of lowering the volume or removing it completely...
The kid was named Ichi, but was mispronounced as "Itchy". He kind of lived up to his given name by using an "itch ray" on everyone.
Yeah, they apparently named him "Icho" for the dub, which is a far cry from his original name, "Yoo Young." Icho isn't even a Korean name.
Nice video! Thanks from korea
Hi, Ed. It's good to hear you. It's always nice to see you since you definitely DON'T have a "face for radio." Please come back.
Haha, thanks Gail! I've been slowly phasing out my on-camera stuff because I think the average viewer would rather see movie clips than my talking head. ;)
Both north and South Korea have their own Godzilla interesting
Am I first? Who cares! An episode of Deja View where I've actually seen the movie? Thank you Mystery Science Theatre 3000 reboot.
Capsule!
"For a Korean Film this movie has a lot of Dutch Angles"
Trinston was here..
YES DO MORE TOEI PLEASE
With, kmovies right now.. its possible to get Yongary movie soon.
Actually, is Super Inframan worthy of a Deja View? Or is that one's inspirations more vague (with both Ultraman and Kamen Rider as inspirations) than needed?
For Image Entertainment, I wrote an special insert booklet on "Super Inframan" with "Oriental Cinema" founder Damon Foster about 10 years ago. You might want to check it out if you can find a copy.
Any chance of you covering Galgameth, the American Pulgasari?
Nah, I usually focus on non-American films, but I have seen it!
Cool!!
Can you do the same with Yongary?:0
This is Yongary.
I named my pets after gamera king tortoise Kamoebas Godzilla Yongary and Gomora
Korean Godzilla film
To bad Yongary didnt fight any other kaijus other than that other guy.
I do like this design I haven’t seen the remake and it looks like garbage but he’ll never be as cool as Godzilla and Gamera
Great video, but only as constructive criticism, you forgot to mention the important detail that the original Korean version is considered lost, due to a distribution shipping issue with the original camera negative. Only the English-dubbed USA version has been able to survive.
Forgetting and choosing are two different things.
@NeonHarbor. I just didn't know is all.
J'adore ! ✌👍
Actually think the modern CGI effects look worse. . .
Yongari looks more Gamera than Godzilla with the goofy head. The sideways placed eyes on the head.
More south Korea gamera
I subscribed.😇
CAPSULE! (sorry)
This make more sene then With turiski psycho
뭐....뭔...;;
W....wha...t;;
Hey.. You say 'yougry' right? That's right but you think some different Dragon... A korea dragon is.. Not different for china dragon (So what)
I saw it, the miniatures were fine but the costume sucked bad
A rip off of a rip off
No no no I meant yongary is a rip off of gamera bro. Godzilla is the greatest
どこ見てんだよって感じの着ぐるみ
もっと上手にパクってね
