Loving RetroBlasting's youtube channel is a love/hate relationship. I hate the time it takes to make these awesome videos I love! It's always great when a new one pops up on my subscription feed!
I have been following retroblasting for a while now and have thoroughly enjoyed the videos and restoration projects. But after watching this presentation I realised just how knowledgeable and passionate Michael is about everything he does. I knew nothing about 80's Ninjas so I enjoyed the content and now feel well educated on the subject. He is an awesome speaker and his journalism background clearly shows in all of their videos. I think this sets them apart from all the rest and that's why I will be subscribing. Keep up the good work guys!!!
Oh the 80s Ninja craze to the day I still am in AWE of anything that is pure Ninja stuff! One thing that bothered me is that you didn't add the 80s 3 3/4 Remco Ninja Strike Force? Did you have any of them back in the day, I believe they were sold in Kmart and Woolsworth on the cheap. Not all of them were Ninjas but the line was pretty damn good if you had Ninja love as I did and still do. Man I wish I was at that seminar when it happened cause you would have put the biggest smile on my face with 80s Ninja love here! You really need to do a Top 10 Ninja list!!!
One of the things I love about your panels, is that I can actually HEAR you talking. As opposed to other panels where you can barely hear the presenters.
+Greywarden5129 we have wireless microphones in front of us that are specifically there to record direct to camera for the final video so RUclips viewers can hear the panel as easily as attendees did.
Hi Michael, wouldn't it be great if you make a sequel for your Panel. Maybe a Ultimate 90's Ninja Panel. My suggestion for topics would be : - Mortal Kombat (esspecially Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile etc.) - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie from 1990 - The influence of TMNT in the 1990's - 3 Ninjas - Beverly Hills Ninja (The Movie with Chris Farley and Chris Rock) - Various Ninja Video Games (Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden, Tenchu for PS1)
*whispers* "Oh my god, NINJA...." -Wow, wonderful work Michael and Melinda! :) The inclusion of the Ninja Gaiden games/Ryu Hayabusa was an especially thoughtful touch. Awesome stuff, as always!
this was another great panel,i'm glad it was finally able to be put up. Melinda's growing frustration when you kept saying it's not time for that, when showing the ninja clan image was great. I got into comics because of G I JOE,so i am very glad to see Storm Shadow end the video.
first time ever see a dragonCon and it was awesome because it was about ninjas thank you looking forward for more but American Ninja was a badass when I was a kid
Sorry I'm catching this video late -it is awesome, but you didn't mention one of the most important pieces of 80's ninja history: the classic Shaw Brothers 1982 classic Chinese Super Ninjas, aka Five Element Ninjas. It was very respected and influential for fantasy ninja lore.
What is missing from this presentation is the caliber of the martial artists in some of these films. Some of the best in the world were fighting in them!
Stormshadow was such a great ninja that I never even saw his action figure. It just kept disappearing off of the shelves. I saw tons of Bazookas, Shipwrecks, but never had or played with a Stormshadow figure.
9 Deaths of the Ninja may not have spawned any official toys, BUT... Those were also the days when we would go outside and "play guns" until our parents called us inside for the third time. My older brother was quite taken by the scene in that movie (I was the ninja fan) where the blond guy says "Gimme the Dancer." and gets handed this big cylindrically encased gatling gun with a shoulder sling. He made one out of 4" PVC pipe, and no matter what story we were actually playing out, we always had to do that 9DOTN scene where he said, "Gimme the Dancer!"
Haha, now I can comment again! Really appreciate all the effort, Michael and Melinda. I don't even know about half the trivia you shared, and we are all entertained and having fun at the same time. =)
So happy to see this...AWESOME job! G.I. Joe (Marvel) was one of my favorite comics back in the day and I too loved the ninja action...and I'm still a HUGE fan of Daredevil, TMNT, as well as SO many of the games from that time period. Indeed, ninjas put their stamp on our generation's culture growing up, and yeah, I remember buying some of those magazines too, ha... #BlastOn
Very entertaining! Thank you for all the hard work you guys put into these panels and also for uploading them for people who couldn't make it to enjoy as well.
Great discussion. We totally brought real throwing stars to school and got in trouble for throwing them "near" some fifth graders. It was a great era to be a kid.
Do you have any plans to review Tranzor Z or the Force Five cartoons? You can easily find Tranzor Z bootlegs at any comic convention. The uncut version, Mazinger Z is avalible in 2 DVD releases thanks to Discotek. Only one of the Force Five has a uncut DVD release, and that is Gaiking. The dubs can easily be found in comic conventions. The uncut Grandizer (fun fact: Grandizer is a sequel to Tranzor Z in Japan) and Starvengers (Getter Robo G, I recommend viewing the original Getter Robo first) is pretty easy to find online, the uncut Spacekateers (Starzinger) is currently being subtitled and Dangard Ace has a 3 dubbed complitation DVDs.
Been waiting for this episode ever since you guys announced it. Excellent video, much love for 80's ninjas. Also, I've finished Ninja Gaiden without the use of game genie and the like.
I enjoy your videos and you said yourself that on his file card that it said he was proficient in 12 M.A in which Ninjutsu could of been one of them. In issue 10 is where they started the ninja story line when he was hooked to Dr. Venom machine. Issue 21 showed his connection to Storm Shadow.
I love when channels cross over...for mine is motorcycles... in 1984. Kawasaki made the bike called the Ninja...the most famous is seen in Top Gun... I think Ive owned maybe 4 of them
MICHEAL, THIS WAS A GREAT ANALYSIS ON 80'S NINJAS ....... HOWEVER THERE IS ONE THING THAT SNAKEEYES , STORM SHADOW AND KASOGI CANT DO. A TRUE SHINOBI MASTER IN MY OPINION IS ABLE TO RENDER HIS OR HERSELF COMPLETELY INVISIBLE. SHINOBI = THE ONE WHO HIDES
So recently I've found out via The Game Chasers that ad blockers can prevent ads from being shown on RUclips. I honestly had no idea that ad-block plus went that far. I mostly used it for putlocker to find those more obscure series, or I'll watch a few episodes to see if I want to purchase a dvd or blu-ray, if it's out. I thought they just blocked pop up ads. Point being, if you want to support the how; turn off ad pop up blockers.
Completely agree on American Ninja - only watch the ones with Dudikoff. :D Btw: more circles closing: The guy who murders Sho Kosugis family in Pray for Death is the villain in Americna Ninja 4 as well :)
Mike you are warned! LOL On FB I follow Chuck Norris and he's been posting & sharing his movie posters in order, and today was the Octagon. And yes I told him and the others about Dragoncon and shared the link to the panel. Let's just see if the Ranger watches and comments. LOL
***** I was kinda surprised you guys didn't show even a little bit of his fight in the Octagon against that killer. I mean he was on that Boba Fett/ Storm Shadow level. And it was one of Norris' best weaponed fights
I so loved Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. Seriously now I am craving to go to a comic book store and buy the GI Joe series. But just out of curiosity were there any GOOD ninja movies?? Just wondering. I think the only good ninja anything other than TMNTs and GI Joe was me watching my brother play Ninja Gaiden. That was a movie to me as a 'teenager'. Thanks for the video!!
Ninja III is one of my favorite 80s WTF flicks. I used to do an MST3K style podcast and we watched Ninja III with a big group of people and the reaction to the V8 scene was basically the same as this DragonCon crowd.
They're right. You should team up with James Eatock, who runs the official He-Man channel. Sometimes he creates "new" He-Man shorts using old footage. You could add some brand new dialogue - bring Skeletor into the 21st century.
My dad had just started senior year of high school when MoTU aired (Sept. 83) I had some skeletor meme sent to me and my dad said a quote I will remember to the day I die "Skeletor was a bad mother fucker"
Disappointed that Mr. T's cartoon from the early to mid 80s wasn't referenced. Mr. T and his young gymnast friends encounter ninjas. Even as a kid, I was like 'This is B.S. These ninjas would've moped the floor with these dumb kids.'
I was think the next lines should have been with the chuck norris inner monologue don't take your pills pills pills... cia trying to poison you you you... So glad this is finally up was been looking forward to this :)
Oddly enough no mention of Mortal Kombat with Scorpion and Sub Zero. But still a great little panel. Would have been interesting to see if Bruce Lee had lived and made it back to the States if he would have taken on ninjas in his films.
***** Sorry guys, I must of missed that. But then again, you have to admit, the ninjas in MK along with the other characters were heavily influenced by the 80s and 70s martial arts craze.
I could be remembering this wrong but did GI Joe have a villain named Firefly who was just a pallet swap of Storm Shadow? Even in the cartoon I remember seeing what could be described as Storm Shadow in camo that carried a flamethrower.
In later issues of the G.I. Joe comic by Larry Hama (we're talking well past #100), Firefly was revealed to have been a ninja all along, trained by the Koga Ninja Clan and adopting the name of "The Faceless Master." Hama ret-conned him into the assassination of the Hard Master with Zartan.
You forgot to mention those cheap, no-name ninja riders on motorcycles toys that were ubiquitous at drug stores and variety discount stores during the 80s. Also, I didn't know beating Ninja Gaiden was a huge deal-which I did-so I'm gonna go feel smug for a moment.
Are you really going to toss out a cheap shot like that? That is *low.* It's obvious we do TONS of research on this channel. You weren't kidding in your original post. You're one smug jerkwad.
Here's a clip from that Ninja Terminator movie. The villains send a bootleg Omega Supreme toy to the hero's home to deliver a message, then call hero on his Garfield phone. ruclips.net/video/ThpdB-W89gg/видео.html
The best panel I’ve seen! Threw me back in time! I’m 46 and spent the 80s submerged in ninja culture and GI Joe. I love you for this, thank you!
allready have seen it twice!..... so good panel. Congrats Michael and Melinda. Thanks for sharing.
Loving RetroBlasting's youtube channel is a love/hate relationship. I hate the time it takes to make these awesome videos I love! It's always great when a new one pops up on my subscription feed!
+Alexander Nielsen we hate it too. But we always have another video in the works!
I keep coming back to this and mostly because of 'I'm not ready for this yet' and Michael's Skeletor
I sincerly hope that you and your better half Merlinda will swing by Denmark one day Michael. You guys are so great. Love the panels you guys make.
Was this up earlier?! Was searching for it and thought I'd dreamed it up earlier in the day!
I'm so glad this is finally up! I was getting worried this would become another lost RetroBlasting panel.
I have been following retroblasting for a while now and have thoroughly enjoyed the videos and restoration projects. But after watching this presentation I realised just how knowledgeable and passionate Michael is about everything he does. This, Sir, is a real masterpiece of an panel. I had quite some very nice flashbacks and laughs. Totally worth waiting for!
EAGLE FORCE SAVITAR! I forgot about him till i watched this. That just filled in so many memory blanks. Thank You !
Hi Michael, wouldn't it be great if you make a sequel for your Panel. Maybe a Ultimate 90's Ninja Panel. My suggestion for topics would be :

It was worth the wait! awesome episode Micheal and Melynda. Now I gotta watch Octagon and Revenge of the Ninja. :)
*whispers* "Oh my god, NINJA...." -Wow, wonderful work Michael and Melinda! :)

Great Panel. Thanks for uploading it. Also, glad somebody else recognizes the awesomeness of Storm Shadow.
nicely done Micheal, you really took your time and saved storm shadow to the end, and for good reason, he's badass...
Yes! Great job guys! I couldn't agree more. Storm Shadow is indeed the ultimate 80s ninja!
Great panel, thanks for putting it up! Much love for Retroblasting!
amazing job Mike!! You nailed it! Enjoyed this video from start to finish!!!
+Robert Danker thanks Robert!
first time ever see a dragonCon and it was awesome because it was about ninjas thank you looking forward for more but American Ninja was a badass when I was a kid
Snake Eyes and Ryu Hyabusa (NINJA GAIDEN) remain my favorite 1980s Ninjas of that era.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the ninja turtles fought daredevil in a crossover story?
Stormshadow was such a great ninja that I never even saw his action figure. It just kept disappearing off of the shelves. I saw tons of Bazookas, Shipwrecks, but never had or played with a Stormshadow figure.

Truly excellent! Took me back to my childhood and filled a few information gaps for me. Great presentation, gang. 😃
love Storm Shadow, American Ninja 1 and 2 and then an awesome movie for me growing up: White Phantom.
Very entertaining! Thank you for all the hard work you guys put into these panels and also for uploading them for people who couldn't make it to enjoy as well.
I love this channel.
+Kronos0316 thanks Kronos!
The 1970's film "The Killer Elite" was the first film to show ninjas to my knowledge.
Great discussion. We totally brought real throwing stars to school and got in trouble for throwing them "near" some fifth graders. It was a great era to be a kid.
That was great guys!
1984 also had The Ninja Mission. A Swedish movie that is now a cult classic
stormshadow, snake eyes, and yes the awesome ninja magazine. good times in the 80's

Its better than the inner monologue in Dune "Chuck Norris likes Spice spice spice"
The Spice must flow flow flow. Lol!
such creepy ASMR without any payoff
Revenge of the ninja is the BEST ninja movie to come out of the 80s!
I love when channels cross over...for mine is motorcycles... in 1984. Kawasaki made the bike called the Ninja...the most famous is seen in Top Gun... I think Ive owned maybe 4 of them

SHINOBI = THE ONE WHO HIDES
Golan-Globus productions... the mark of quality!
this was awesome!
Sho Kasugi is coming to my town so I’m rewatching this
Best panel ever!

So little time paid to "The Master". Lee Van Cleef.
Even better. The Ninja Warriors arcade machine was actually triple-wide.
What about Wrath of the Black Manta? It was a wonderful NES ninja game.
18:00 Damn, she even has a Nagel painting in her living room!😄
Simon and Simon had a pretty goid ninja episode too
I want a Sho Kosugi blu ray box set!!!
Completely agree on American Ninja - only watch the ones with Dudikoff. :D
Btw: more circles closing: The guy who murders Sho Kosugis family in Pray for Death is the villain in Americna Ninja 4 as well :)
Did you mention Ninja Mites ??
I remember having them as a kid, kinda like those MUSCLE miniatures only ninjas !
Sho Kosugi's son was Jiraiya the black ninja in the ninja sentai themed kakuranger known as the alien rangers here in the US
Love his skelitor
Mike you are warned! LOL On FB I follow Chuck Norris and he's been posting & sharing his movie posters in order, and today was the Octagon. And yes I told him and the others about Dragoncon and shared the link to the panel. Let's just see if the Ranger watches and comments. LOL

GarouLady Miami Connection
i dimly remember seeing The Master on german TV, it wasn't too bad - it featured Lee Van Cleef.
That Skeletor impersonation was on point!
If they ever did another Masters of the Universe reboot, they should absolutely get Michael to do the voices!!
+Matt Leuty thanks guys. Blushing over here.
They're right. You should team up with James Eatock, who runs the official He-Man channel. Sometimes he creates "new" He-Man shorts using old footage. You could add some brand new dialogue - bring Skeletor into the 21st century.
Doing voices is not a common talent. You sir are talented!
My dad had just started senior year of high school when MoTU aired (Sept. 83)
I had some skeletor meme sent to me and my dad said a quote I will remember to the day I die
"Skeletor was a bad mother fucker"

STORM SHADOW A BAD ASS NINJA
So rad!
That Skeletor voice! lmao Need a BTS video of Michael doing the voices.
That one and his Rambo were both great !
I was think the next lines should have been with the chuck norris inner monologue
don't take your pills pills pills...
cia trying to poison you you you...
So glad this is finally up was been looking forward to this :)
My neighborhood of latchkey kids cut bamboo sticks and spray painted them silver, got throwing stars from who knows where, and would have ninja wars.
Storm shadow kick ass
Really wish could have been there but I do not live in your area.80s ninjas are definitely the best ninjas even if they are a bit cheezy
Surprised you didn't mention the American Ninja toyline or the Ninja Assassins toys
We only had 50 minutes. Hopefully next year...
A ninja magazine? damn the 80s were weird and amazing XD
Thanks man and it's good to see someone with good taste to recognize the getter XD
American Ninja 1 and 2 are AWESOME!
Oddly enough no mention of Mortal Kombat with Scorpion and Sub Zero. But still a great little panel. Would have been interesting to see if Bruce Lee had lived and made it back to the States if he would have taken on ninjas in his films.
+gutz1981 the title of the panel was 1980s Ninjas. Please tell me how Mortal Kombat qualifies.
gutz1981 mortal kombat came in 1992 the panel is for 80s.
***** Sorry guys, I must of missed that. But then again, you have to admit, the ninjas in MK along with the other characters were heavily influenced by the 80s and 70s martial arts craze.
There were so many ridiculous ninja-based movies way back then that I don't know where to start.Ridiculously entertaining but historically inaccurate.
I could be remembering this wrong but did GI Joe have a villain named Firefly who was just a pallet swap of Storm Shadow? Even in the cartoon I remember seeing what could be described as Storm Shadow in camo that carried a flamethrower.
+Mark Roth he wasn't a ninja nor was his mold the same. He was a demolitions expert.
RetroBlasting sorry I knew he wasn't a ninja just thought I remembered seeing him in the camouflage getup in an episode.
Get your bashˋn slash today! :-)
Hey what about Ninja Champion (1985)?!
+Danny Cruz you can't forget something you don't know about
thats the point of doing research..
Are you really going to toss out a cheap shot like that? That is *low.* It's obvious we do TONS of research on this channel. You weren't kidding in your original post. You're one smug jerkwad.
yeah, i was being a little snarky-wasnt trying to be malicious or hostile. i'm sorry if that upset you.
d
Ninja or Hero
If you want to see some really bad ninja movies, check out any movie made by Godfrey Ho. So bad they're a hoot!
Can you please do Chuck Norris and the Karate Kommamdos cartoon and toys?
Why is this up again? Why did you take it down to begin with?? What's going on?? Is it the end of the world??
wasnt their ninjas in gymkata 1985?
Don't watch 9 deaths of the ninja? I OWN it, it's so hilariously bad I had a showing with my mates and they loved it xD
Hi
Ah.... satisfaction.
I got a ninjection!
Let me guess, because ninjas
Is this one staying up?
that's what she said.
+DJ Collectors we had some issues with the exports due to software error. It's all fixed now.
At least it wasn't DMCA/Content ID nonsense. That's what I was afraid of, tbh.
7:20… I don’t get that bit? What is he not ready to talk about?
Watch until the end
Here's a clip from that Ninja Terminator movie. The villains send a bootleg Omega Supreme toy to the hero's home to deliver a message, then call hero on his Garfield phone.
