Agreed, very overlooked. "Everything She Wants" is another example of a song that he wrote and performed entirely on his own (his first foray into that, if I'm not mistaken), and at the ripe age of 20.
@@briancanfield2968 I believe that wasn't the first. He already did a few songs entirely on his own on Wham!'s debut LP. It's listed on the liner notes. He's a very underrated keyboardist and drum programmer (drums was actually his first instrument).
Back in the last century, I watched a TV programme about George Michael and his "pop music" career up until that time. George was in the recording studio discussing a keyboard part in one of his songs with the pianist. I think the pianist was Ann Dudley from The Art Of Noise. Ann rehearsed her piece and George asked her to try it again, asking to change the phrasing. Ann did as George asked and waited for his opinion. Now I don't know if George had any formal music training, but George said to Ann something like "You've changed some of the notes in those chords from the first run through". Ann said that she had! George had caught the changes purely by ear! George Michael certainly went up IMHO from there on. George Michael was truly a great musician and performer. All of his music that he left us is testament to that. RIP George. You may be gone but you are not forgotten.
Your voice is incredible. Hard to sing like George Michael, and you nailed it. Thanks for bringing his music to the public, great timeless songs ... completely underrated talent
Never really listened to George Michael back in his day. However, I'm 58 now, drive an old pickup with a super loud stereo. Nothing like hitting stop lights absolutely cranking Freedom! 90. The kids like that this old grey hair can still enjoy life. Thanks from Colorado.

One of the most underrated artists I've ever seen. Absolutely phenomenal and probably the best vocalist of his era. His voice is just out of this world
I’m a hard rock/metal/jazz/blues guy I love the album Faith. George Michael was a true unique talent. Think he wrote and performed 95% of the instruments on Faith. Epic album, epic talent
He was is one of the most under appreciated GOATs .... I think his artistry often gets forgotten at the expense of his persona. But Man was he a total artist. So thankful for this post.
Thanks for video. George was Great musican. His music was part of my childhood. Songs: Freedom! 90 and Careless Whisper in my main playlist. Last Christmas song reminds me of the Christmas holidays when I was a kid and waited for gift under the Christmas tree.
The song Faith and the guitar work had so many influences and sounds all in that one little run. Some rock, country, Elvis, blues all on that. I remember the first time I heard that song like it was today.
Always liked George Michael the singer and entertainer, but I admit it took me some time to realise how exceptionally gifted this man was. "Older" was my eye opener, it is one of my personal all-time favourites. It got a bit dusty lately, but today I put it on and it is still so great! Thank you for this nice reminder! Could you please make a tutorial on Jesus to a child as you played it? Soooo wonderful!
Great informative video. George Michael should also be remembered for his very charitable contributions to the homeless communities. He quietly gave a way millions to help others. RIP
Fantastic video on a hugely talented artist. I was 15 when Faith was released. Father Figure , Hard Day, Hand to Mouth & One more try, what a phenomenal Album.
AMAZING, AWESOME!!! Sir, I love you!!! You exactly expressed in this video, what my wife and I know for so long... George Michael was/is really a underrated artist...😭 Thank you soooooo much, Sir!
I was missing something from the "Older" album. So you finished the video with "Jesus to a Child". Beatiful song. Perfect album. Wonderful singer, hard to beat. Have you heard him singing Long and Winding Road, at Linda's tribute. Flawless! Always drives me to tears. Love your videos. This one, specialy. Keep on, Pilgrim!
You'd never catch me in the same room as a Wham record, but George Michael's Listen Without Prejudice is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Mega talent.
I always liked G. Michael's music; but didn't know exactly why until this video. Thank you for sharing your insights. knowledge, talent and especially your great vocals! Happiness is a new video release from GP! 🙂
George was a Deity. He had a song for whatever you're going through in life. Star People the lyrics, the instruments, the message. George was very insightful. George was Amazing! see what I did there 😏
Brings back memories of Wham! Their first album had a lot of good tunes and mixing of styles. Funk, r&b, pop and alternative in that album. Good stuff!
You made an outstanding video with this! Congratulations! You have great musical skills and this video is so full of interesting informations! Love it!
Many of the guitar parts played on George's recordings were played by Scottish session musician, Hugh Burns. These include both acoustic and solo parts in 'Faith'.
I too felt the same about Wham. My sister would play their record through out the day. Being a metal head in the 80’s, it wasn’t cool to play or listen to their music. Well as I got older, I began to appreciate Wham, along with guitarists of other styles such as Brad Paisley, Brent Mason, Jerry Reed, Roy Clark and the list goes on and on. This is a great tribute to George Michael. Gotta Have Faith’s guitar solo is one I’ve been wanting to learn on guitar. Thanks for the video.
This is what makes you great to watch: Your stimulating perspectives and insights have opened my mind and therefore inspired me. Please never forget/change that part of your RUclips identity, which is why RUclipsrs/musicians follow you.
I love music all my life but could never break down everything like you do and then play it all as well. That's as amazing as all these artists you cover.
As a fan, not a musician, this is one of my favorite videos explaining George’s genius, hard work, and adding his own touch to others’ classics. I love how you broke down Young Guns and did not exclude his Wham! songwriting. I’d love to know {clinically} how his head injury around age 8 contributed to his musical genius? He mentioned this event as a cornerstone to his obsession with music and songwriting. Thank you so much for this tribute - so grateful I ran across it 3 years later.
glad to see the love for GM here. although massively popular, many people see him as that dude from wham! and you hardly even covered his solo work here. I think we need a follow up video 😊
I too didn't care for his stuff much when he was popular. I figured he was just a vocalist singing other people's songs and making videos. I was against all music that seemed to be replacing live musicians with DJ's in that era. Great video. I see the other side of the coin now.
Terrific video Thom! I have to admit to never hearing about George Michael or his music. Now I will have to look into his music. Obviously a very talented musician who I am guessing never got the credit that he deserved. I wonder if he was elected to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame? 🤔🤔
Well, all respect voor George Michael after this video. I didn't realise that he was so gifted, but I have to say Guitar Pilgrim is a hell of a muscian too!
I can’t afford to paetron but I always watch the adverts on GP’s videos - if you want to help support him you should watch the adverts too (don’t skip)
Yes, Yog is a hell of a musician, a genius! 💞 There was never someone like him before and there will never be another like him again. That's a fact. There are some great musicians out there, but all are lacking something. If they compose great music, they can't write lyrics, nor produce their own stuff, or if they write beautiful lyrics, they can't compose music and so on. And none of them has the vocal ability like George Michael who's able to sing in many different genres. All others sing just about one style. Writing sort of the same kind of songs. Sometimes it's as if they write 100 versions of the same song and can't even properly perform it. Thank you so much for this video. 💖

You're such a show off! ✌👏👏👏👏👏

I think we can agree, YOU are One Hell of a Musician! Too.
George Michael wrote, arranged, and produced the majority of his music by himself and I feel like that is overlooked by many
