My daughter who is Down Syndrome works at a movie theater. She is so excited to take me as her guest to see Inside Out 2. We have to wait a week, though, as movie theater employees can't use their bonus tickets the opening week.

You should do a 30 day challenge of just eating what you have. I do this often to keep from waste. Some times there may be something missing so I will limit to just by that one item to complete that meal for under 10 dollars but it has to be used that day for that meal. Another thing I do is if I see I have lots of leftovers I will have a dinner with just all of it together to get it gone. I hate food waste. I'm a huge stickler about it. And vegetable or fruit I put outside for birds or raccoons etc. so again at least it's not going to waste.i put in my woods to keep them from coming up to my house. My significant others parents do the same.

I´m pretty good with food most of the time. I only buy what I need for the week on Saturdays (except staples in the pantry of course). I meal plan, I try to food prep as much as possible (easier in the winter) and I always eat leftover the very next day. My eating changes with the seasons. I eat much lighter in the spring and summer. And I mostly cook what is in season.

Thanks for the video Karen. It is hard to "lean" out food. My hubby and I are better now. We just buy meat and produce weekly and use what is in the pantry. We are really trying to not over consume in so many areas. God Bless have a nice weekend.

Whenever I have had a bad substitution, the grocery store has always refunded my money and I never had to return the item. You might call them and tell them that their substitution was not suitable. Don’t they send you a text or email to let you know what their substitution is before you get your order? If not, definitely call them and try to get your money back.

After COVID, I couldn't find simple stuff like toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, baby wipes, salt, Kleenex, , I swore to myself I'd NEVER be like that again.
I buy cases of canned goods, plus what I can from the garden , I buy 1 TP for now, one for later. If I find meat that we will eat, on sale I'll buy 4-5 . It's me and my boyfriend and we have enough food to get us by for probably 6-12 months. 11 cabinets full of food, stuff I canned above my washer , 8 cases of mixed vegetables, plus 2-5 gallon buckets of sugar, a 5 gallon bucket of pinto beans, I have other foods in food grade buckets with gamma lids, then I have two freezers full of meats.
Now mind you, I have no real grocery stores in my area, I have Walmart, save a lot, Dollar general, and a Dollar tree. So it's not like I have 5-6 stores I can go to, to look for something I might need, like TP !! LoL
Poor Leo, he never gets to have fun😢😢 LoL 😆😆😆😆😂😂😂😂
Please remember me in prayer, God knows All that's going on in my life.

You can also freeze meatloaf. Make a big pan and then either divide it in half and eat one and then freeze the other half for another meal

Our pantry cupboards and freezer were over flowing, so we have been using up extra food for the past 3 months, before buying anything new. We buy only what we need to pair with what we have already. We have a rule, leftovers must be used up before making anything else. For example, we had leftover taco meat but no more tortillas, so we added a few ingredients to make sloppy joes. You can also freeze leftovers the day you make it and warm it up when you need a quick serving.

Chilli as leftovers was always great. Over rice, over potatoes. Over hotdogs, for burritos/tacos/nachos, etc. Finding foods that start as something that can be remade into something else helps consume the leftovers. Another example would be rice. Start with plain rice and then it could be made into fried rice, rice eggs, added to a soup, etc.

Managing our food and not allowing it to go to waste is extremely important to me.
Food rotting in landfills produces methane, which is really bad for the environment.

I have gotten some great ideas by watching pantry/freezer challenge videos. I find it fun to be creative with using what I have. Also I try to push of going to the store for as long as possible. One of my favorite meals in the summer is a southwest salad. It has lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, canned corn, canned black beans, Costco rotisserie chicken and chipotle ranch dressing, its so yummy!

Hello, my husband and I have what we call leftover lunch or dinner whenever needed, once or twice a week maybe. If there is chicken leftover I will make a salad or put it in a pita. We have fun and get quite creative trying not to waste any food. Can't afford to waste it. Thank you for being you!

I'm on a low-carb diet, also. I plan my week's meals around what's on sale that week at the grocery store, especially proteins. I make sure I have ingredients to make 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, and 7 dinners, plus a few snacks. I don't slot them into particular days of the week; I eat what I'm in the mood for or have time to cook. Sometimes I'll eat breakfast for dinner, and vice versa. I don't keep a lot of extra food on hand, because I'll overeat if I do. I eat very few packaged/processed foods. I have a small apartment-size fridge plus one shelf in a cabinet for food, and that's it. Now that fresh produce is in season, I'm going to be hitting my local farmers' market before I make my meal plan for the week so I can base my meals around what's in season. I like to support my local farmers!

Eat your leftovers before cooking anything new and for the time being, work with what you have and only buy something when you need it to make a full meal when working with what you have. It is the only way to reduce food waste until you are down on your stock enough to warrant buying more food. If you have things that need using up and the meal is something that you could freeze, cook bigger quantities and then freeze per portion. I saw you writing your shopping list and it seems very long. See if you can rethink your meals before buying so many more things.

Karen, it was fun watching your meal planning. Cooking smaller portions and meal planning, or even batch cooking (if a family likes to eat consistently rotate through a small selection of meals) is definitely a game changer when it comes to food waste. I have said before, my husband and I hardly ever have any food leftovers or food waste. However, I think when people live in larger families, that is generally when food requirements and varying tastes mean more food is cooked and there is more likelihood of waste occurring.
I think a lot of people would benefit from sitting down and discussing the true financial cost of leftovers, including the purchasing, transportation and growing costs. The cooking/energy usage costs. Also the environmental and ecological costs of food waste. If people stopped to think what they would do with the money they saved from planning better and throwing less away, or how that money could be better spent on other things, it might help them at least have a different perspective on food waste and may make them want to reduce that moving forward.
