I totally cried when i got my navy ball cap, back in the old battlestations. I came in back in 2001, still in. Cant say i love everything about the Navy, but I am proud to be a United States Sailor.

WOW!!!! I went to boot camp on Sept '83 to Great Lakes, things have changed. I served four years active and nine in the reserves. Recalled to active duty during Desert Shield / Desert Storm. The entire experience was awesome!! Now don't get me wrong, you will work your tail off!!! Port - starboard watches, Reftra, working parties, replenishing at sea, inport duty days, drills, watches............To the veterans and those active or in DEP, I say THANK YOU!! God bless and full speed ahead!!!!

I extend my respect to the Navy and all other branches of our armed services. I come from a Navy family and it's killed me since the day I was diagnosed with Leukemia knowing I won't be able to carry on the tradition. If the time ever comes that I'm in good health, my first stop is going to be the recruiter's office.

This really brought back memories. I'm approaching my 20 year point. 6 active, the rest reserves with one deployment to Kuwait. The reserves is a lot different. I still have a measure of pride for having served my country in the Navy, but the last few years in the reserves have really been a bad experience for me. There's no team work, no camaraderie and with all the changes they're making, it seems they care more about their numbers than sailors. But i'm still proud to have served!

  • @jonathanedison

Thats true, but we do all rag on eachother lovingly :). I am pretty sure I recognize the fire training guy from my time, Battle stations was way cooler when we did it...had to run literally everywhere on the base, the last thing our division did, well we got wet. We weren't supposed to talk about battle stations but its crazy that they have changed it so much.

  • @Vellenash

My nephew left for boot camp yesterday, hope he's having fun today. I was a Marine joined in 1980, I'm sure he's not going to go through what I did, it should be good for him. Everyone ask me if i was disappointed he joined the Navy, I tell them hell no, I spent as much time on a ship as I did on shore, Navy and Marines are in the same dept. of defense. A lot of people don't even know that, I wish everyone good luck in the Navy.

@pal09usf They Move the target back. It starts at three feet, then goes to 7 and so on, if you do well enough, they take you through another round with further back targets, if you do well there then you qualify.

@sweatfeetmclovin Hey good luck man! My ship date was 04JAN10 graduated on Feb 26, left RTC for A School on March 3!
Keep your head up and STAY POSITIVE - PLEASE stay positive! RTC is not supposed to be a walk in the park or happy vacation camp.
Study your ass off, be fit, and try to get a leadership position while you're there, you can be bumped up a paygrade if you do!
Also, respect your RDC's. They put in the work to turn you into a Sailor, learn everything you can from them! Good luck!

Boot camp sucked, but there were a lot of fun times too. I also cried during the cap ceremony. I worked damn hard for that cap. I loved the experience over all, and cried for joy as soon as it was over. I would not have changed anything about it. Well except the glasses. They sucked, yet I still have them stored away. lol

@TheSerenityhuck Bootcamp is a real pain in the butt while you are in it but before you know it you will be out in the fleet and will realize that bootcamp really was not that bad. I would say once a week, me and my buddies tell stories and laugh about the things in boot camp so don't worry and good luck!

There is so much you can't capture, and so much that has changed. However, this brought me back and gives a small glimpse into what it is like (minus the yelling, getting beat, peanut butter shot, etc). A good watch for those who have been through it.

@1lilcuz it does not matter if your overweight, it matters your body composition. example.. you could be 5"10 and weigh 145 lbs of pure muscle... so an exception would be made. there are exceptions to every rule. talk to your recruiter

@PawPrint33 You will be required to float and tread water for a few minutes at RTC. If you fail your initial try, you will go back for more instruction until you pass. You can not graduate without passing. With that said.. go to an indoor pool and practice... you wont ship off for RTC for months after you enlist so you have plenty of time to practice.

I like that Battle-Stations, intense all around drills. Wish they had that in basic when I went thru. Looks like an effective training tool before to entering the fleet. There's more advanced training in the fleet to come, along with watch drills.

Service is service no matter what branch. The only reason we are considered the best is because we work as a team. I respect the i guess you can say rivalry between the branches because your proud of what branch you represent but in the end we all represent one nation and together whether your on a boat, convoy security, in a foxholes for fucking days,or taking it to the enemy, doesnt matter what uniform you wear, one team one fight.

You go through this Boot Camp first, then you're off to BUD/s. Take the ASVAB, see if you qualify for special forces at all. If you do, take the AFT test that your recruiter will set you up with, (Basically the requirements to pass basic), if you pass that, you fully qualify. Go to Boot, then BUD/s.

The "black" (actually Navy blue) uniform is the dress uniform and the winter uniform. The whites are the summer uniform. Light blue shirt and dark blue pants you see them wearing most of the time are the utilities. Enlisted Navy has about 6 different uniforms. With the introduction of the service working and Navy working uniforms they are trying to get it down to about 4. Full khaki uniforms are for E7 and above.

Pretty much. If you can't do a push-up, you can't pass, but your RDC will make it his/her God-given mission to make you able to do the push-ups, whether you like it or not. To be somewhat less subtle, the words PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT will take on new and terrible meaning for you. :)

Interesting watching this. I'm in the Royal Navy and much of it isn't too dissimilar from our own basic training. I noticed there wasn't a lot of drill practice in the video though. The bulk of our training was drill and PT. Although British drill is quite different. We had an American instructor at our trade training from the US Navy and he said we look like Nazis when we're marching cause we swing our arms a lot more lol. Good job all who make it though, basic training is tough but rewarding

Just jump in and learn how! XD some people just learn by being pushed into the pool without any training. Remember dont ever panic in the water, bc it causes shortness of breathing, if you have a fear of water stay calm and you will be just fine, if you sink to the bottom of the pool, angle yourself where you want to go and kick off the bottom of the pool. Theres no reason to fear water. :)

While you're waiting, learn naval ranks & rates; learn basic nautical terms; learn the names of your civilian chain-of-command: President, VP, Sec. of State, Sec. of the Navy; exercise and condition yourself to run 1.5 miles in 14 minutes of less, know how to swim and wade water with clothes & boots on, if you smoke cigarettes, now's a good time to quit. AND most importantly, go into a field in aviation - squadrons are cool and you'll have the best places to choose from overseas! Good luck.

@woodsman513 when you are going through your enlistment process you will pick your rate. If you have the asvab scores to be an MA and the rate is open they will assign you to that rate and than after bootcamp you will go to A-School for that rate. The big problem with the MA rate right now is that it is horribly overmanned so if you do choose that rate you may be waiting a while to ship out.
