A lot of it is based around being able to read your oponent. It's going to be impossible to whiff punish a normal that you didn't expect on reaction. You need to observe the tendencies of the other player.
I'd like to see a video about block strings and how to get out of them. Especially if you're stuck in the corner and you're getting rushed by like Dudley, or Yang, etc...
would be good today i had that same problem with these two mostly dudley man rushed me like crazy stuck in corner i hate when that happens but i don,t give up i will learn it out how
It should also be noted that when trying to whiff punish you should be standing instead of crouching. Your hurtbox is much bigger when crouched, making it more likely that you get hit instead of a whiff.
Go to training, do the move with blanks that you can't punish, and find a solution. I had that same issue against e.Honda, while I was m.bison. I went to training and found out how to do a good punish against ex headbutt.
How can I punish it with ken? Does anyone know? I heard that you might be able to punish it by blocking the ball and then immediately dash forward and then do a flaming dragon punch? Could that work?
1:16 That's a whiff punish? I thought that the defining feature of a whiff punish was that you were attempting to hit the outstretched limb specifically, because you can buffer the normal you do it with into a move that will combo if it comes out without fear of it coming out when it shouldn't, getting blocked, and then getting you punished. Is it a whiff punish any time you punish a whiffed something in any way?
"because you can buffer the normal you do it with into a move that will combo if it comes out without fear of it coming out when it shouldn't" That's a buffered 1 in 2. "Is it a whiff punish any time you punish a whiffed something in any way?" Pretty much!
RocketPawnch "that's a buffered 1 in 2" Pretty sure that's another name for a whiff punish, or at least an optimized whiff punish. "Pretty much!" Then why aren't punishes for whiffed non-normals called whiff-punishes? They're almost always referred to simply as punishes. If all a whiff punish is is a punish on a whiffed move and doesn't have any other defining features, why even have the term? It doesn't seem that useful for discussions of strategy to have a new term that's barely even substantively different from other terms.
Grant Larson Whiff punish is often said in the context of footsies. "He whiff punished his low roundhouse." Punish is the more general term. "His dragon punch whiffed, so he got punished for it." Hope that makes sense!
RocketPawnch Let me preface this by saying that I'm not trying to be a dick, I just really want to nail down exactly what the term "whiff punish" means. Isn't a whiff punish specifically hitting the hurtbox on the extended limb(s)?
Grant Larson No I get you man, and I'm just trying to help! "Isn't a whiff punish specifically hitting the hurtbox on the extended limb(s)?" No, it can also mean whiffed special moves, but the term whiff punish is largely used in footsies. Extended limbs from Dhalsim is just ONE example of whiff punishing. Second example: Ryu whiffs low roundhouse. I whiff punish with my own low roundhouse.
It would be cool to have a video explaining when to roll, and which characters are able to deal with rolls the best, and how to counter them ^^ love the episode guys!
Actually, all videos you watch on RUclips have stereo sound, if you have two speakers. The problem with the audio in this video is that the channels are too separated.
TheBearrish I'm not well versed in the area. But whoever mixed the audio on this video seemed to have separated the channels a lot (I think that's how you describe it). So even though Gootecks is sitting on the left, if the person who mixed the audio didn't separate the channels so much you'd hear him from both speakers, maybe a bit louder on the left speaker. His voice wouldn't play from the left speaker normally. You can tell the channels are pretty much completely separated because when they speak it only plays out of one side. When Gootecks speaks it only plays out the left speaker and when Justin speaks it only plays out the right. I use headphones so it doesn't sound very good because it's like Justin is sitting to the right of me and Gootecks is to the left.. it might not sound so bad with speakers because they sit in front of you to the left and right, which is how it looks in the video.
Hey just a personal request. I've been playing Dudley for a long time now. Starting From Mugen, then to 2nd impact, 3rd strike, then sf4 (woohoo!) Now my problem is, it feels like im playing him wrong sometimes. Maybe its a lack of confidence? Idk. But what i would love to see is a tutorial video, a really really good tutorial video on how to dudley. Him or yang. I love em both honestly. So if i get that that would be awesome. Thank you guys. I love your videos!
"whats the best button? sweep." jwong just summed up his entire sf career
For god sake, Cross Counter TV, we want SFIII Tutorials too!
Even ST has more scene than 3rd strike. why should they do a tutorial for a dead game?
Where's the cross tekken vids (kappa)
Giango IV SF3 cannot die! ;)
Shany G
You're talking like sf3 isn't already dead.
Giango IV It's live and kicking, both online & offline. You need to get back to the scene again.
Justin wong on excellent adventures confirmed
You're right!!!
How about Justin Wong do a training session about how to lose weight?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
i thought it was rufus cosplay
i'm sure that your captain fit
2edgy4me
Tora chan why don't you do a training session on who the fuck you are?
wow. i didnt even know you could punish dhalsims standing fierce with normals, let alone multiple. thx j.wong!
You don't watch enough Daigo Umehara then.
ive seen him play in tourney, where theres only ever one dhalsim that makes it out of pools. does he have a channel/stream i should check out?
How about a lesson on Option Selects? It'd help out a ton :)
vesperarcade has tutorials on option selects
juicebox has an amazing guide on footsies
Not going to lie, I find whiff punishing normals to be really hard.

GOOTEC
how about a video on how to punish blanka's rolling attack once you block it? it's virtually unpunishable. it's frustrating.
can't you hit him out of it? Some moves are just safe on block =/
yeah but once you block it what do you do? blanka will just do cheap chip damage all day long. it's stupid.

if I pay for training with jwong, can I get him to call me sempai?
Yes. He might even notice you.
1:47 kicks his hands and he falls down lol
