So I’m a 38 year old ex construction worker that is unable to work due to injury. I have made 4 loaves of bread off this video. It just keeps getting better every loaf. These are my first 4 loaves ever. Thank you for this. The struggle of working 80+ hour weeks to sitting at home is rough. Now I have something to do that relaxes me. Thank you for this. Gave me some hope for my life. Super relaxing.

Just a pro tip on the pizza. You had a pizza stone to bake it on, but you put it in the oven with the pizza. Pizza shops usually have ovens that get way hotter than a normal house oven (1000F+ vs 500F). To help mimic this, you want to put the stone in the oven before the pizza and let it sit there for a while. Get your oven as hot as it can go and let the stone absorb the heat. Then when you put the pizza in, it’ll sit on that stone and the crust will immediately start to brown and bubble like you get at a restaurant.

I made this dough but added an extra 2 tbsp sugar to the dry flour and worked it in. After the dough had risen, I rolled it out to a half an inch thick, and cut it into 3 inch squares. I put them on a baking sheet and let them rise again. Brushed the top with egg wash. Then I baked them in the oven at 350 until the top was a beautiful golden brown and they looked like little pillows. Up on coming out of the oven I brushed them with melted sweet cream butter and let them cool. I then dusted half of them with powdered sugar. The other half I filled with fresh Bavarian Cream. WOW! There are no words. They were light, had the perfect texture, not too sweet, and they were a hit for sure. Almost like a yummy beignet. No doubt about it. This is a wonderfully versatile dough recipe!

Jill, I just have to tell you how much your bread recipe has changed my life. I’ve always been a bit intimidated in the kitchen, but baking has surprisingly come more naturally to me. This Fall and Winter, I’ve been making your bread recipe 1-2 times a week, and it's become such a rewarding part of my routine. We’ve made everything from loaves to pizza to dinner rolls, and it's even inspired me to try other things from scratch.
My great-grandma, Mabel, was a bread maker in Lindstrom, MN-only about 15 minutes from where I live now-and I wonder if her love for bread baking is something that’s been passed down to me. I’ve felt such a deep connection to it all, and I truly don’t think I would have had the confidence to try without you and your recipe and wonderful video.

Lovely recipe! Bread proofing tip: if your oven has a pilot light, there’s no need to heat it at all and if your oven doesn’t have a pilot light, just turn on the actual oven light. It will warm your oven up to about 100 degrees f. which is perfect for yeast dough to rise in, without worrying about it being too hot to kill the yeast.

My husband, dog, and I are all appreciative :) I was a little worried because I forgot to grease the pan but I turned the loaf upside down with 10 minutes of baking time left and then used a knife and short bangs on all four corners and it came out and intact. I got those tips from another video and thought I would share.

Just watched this today and made my very first, from scratch, loaf of bread. I used a mix of whole-wheat and bleached flour (because it's all I had on hand) and a little brown sugar and honey in my first attempt (yes, I'm overly daring). I also punched the dough down twice and extended the rising time by another half-hour just because I was also in the middle of cooking dinner and the oven was occupied after the first rise. All in all... SUCCESS! The end product was FANTASTIC! A little spread of butter on a slice with a tiny sprinkle of course sea-salt... marvelous! Thanks, Ms. Winger! Great video presentation too!

Soo, instead of mixing the yest into water I just kept the dry ingredients separate from the liquid ingredients. Once all the liquid ingredients were mixed well I added it to the dry and mixed as you demonstrated. The bread was a success! I also made dinner rolls. Thank you so much for the easy recipe. When I'm letting dough rise in the oven, I place a LARGE stainless steel bowl of HOT water in the bottom of the oven, turn it on to its lowest setting for 10-15 minutes, then turn it off. The residual heat plus the hot water keeps the oven at the perfect temp for the entire rise time. On really cold days or I have the A/C running, I'll often swap re-fill the hot water about mid-way through.

Update: I made this recipe and OMG, its so good. Fluffy on the inside as hamburger buns and a hoagie style loaf. And it has a nice chew, that might be from the egg. My next batch will have an extra ¼ to ½ tsp salt, just my preference.
So I stayed true to the recipe and got 3 "Whopper" sized buns or rolls; 1-8" hoagie loaf, and enough dough chillaxing in the fridge for a 10-12" pizza crust. Or some cinnamon rolls 😋.
💜 Thanks so much for your recipe 💜
