Steve, I did a Steve Rodgers video view marathon yesterday and was blown away by the effort you put into the instructional features in your videos. i love the underwater footage assessments and their practical application to techniques. We greatly appreciate your effort. Thanks!
Hey Steve. I really enjoy your channel and greatly appreciate all the hard won knowledge that you share. The underwater footage is excellent; it's something I have always wanted to do here in South Africa. Thanks for taking the time to do what you do for others.
I catch almost all my bass on Ned rigs and wacky rigs, but I just keep going back to the same spots where I know I’ve caught them before. This is a great step towards catching them somewhere else when they aren’t in the usual spots. Thanks Steve!
The bass were so temperamental on this trip it really forced me into doing this. And I'm glad it did. I feel I expanded my Ned Rig fishing quite a bit on that trip.
Hey Steve. I took your advice. I created a monster. I introduced my 16 year old nephew (happens to be a 4 time Missouri BMX Champion) to bass fishing. Now he would rather be fishing than at the track...lol
Why does everybody go straight to “well it could be a cArEeR!”. Like why does something have to be profitable to be worthy of time. Do you squeeze all your relationships for profit?
I tried it tonight , in fact it was first time ever for me trying a Ned Rig period, it worked for me got two Bass on it on a local Urban lake. I will be fishing Ned Rig again for sure, and this technique, thank you!
That is great to hear! It is a great lure and technique. I'm sure there are a lot more catches in your future on this. Thanks so much for watching and letting me know!
I found some jig heads with willow leaf chatterbait blades on them for soft plastics. Today I tried one in the saltwater and caught a croaker pretty quickly with a Berkeley Gulp tail. I recommend you get some of those heads. I have never seen a bait saim and hunt like that on a steady medium speed retrieve. It vibrates but not so hard like a normal chatterbait blade and when you pop it off the bottom it feels amazing. I wasn't in the best place to judge how it catches fish, it was too shallow and there was a lot of dead seaweed floating around. But from what I can tell it's absolutely worth trying. The hook wire is light and the attachment clip can't be very strong so I wouldn't use over 10 lb test with them. I'm pretty sure they'll slay bass with the right tail. A boot tail could work, but I had a ribbon tail on that looked really good. I don't see why a craw or creature bait wouldn't work with it for bass. Edit, it's called the Z Man Willow Vibe.
Never used a ned rig before, watched your video last night and tried it out on a lake I am unfamiliar with this morning. Caught six bass and two perch in three hours. Thank you for adding to my fishing tool box
Another nice presentation from you Steve. Always checking out your videos and they are outstanding tips and tricks keep them coming you do a great job. Thanks again
Steve, excellent tip. I think the Ned gets pigeonholed as a slow, subtle presentation when it’s actually pretty versatile. I think dragging it through the sand and the muck is a great way to get the fish interested and I mix in a few pops during the retrieve just to clean it off and maybe trigger a reaction strike. Cheers!
@@jasonleon8788Oh, any, I've used trout magnet floats with the packaged instructions, classic mainline bobbers that hook onto the main line, addicted fishing floats, ones you fill w/ water, but my favorite way to float a Ned is with the main line tied to a wooden bobber. Tie your leader to the same eye in the bobber and you're almost fishing I just try to remember not to use too big a Ned head, more than 3.5g could possibly drown any bobber lol
@@jasonleon8788 my favorite for neds 1/10 and up is a wooden bobber. They don't sink. I use a trilene knot to one eye of the bobber for my main line and then same for my leader.
I have just started to use the Ned rig in my arsenal Steve. Like you said, its good when you know where the bass are. I have had a little success with the Ned rig in my home lake when conditions get tough. I like the rig you have set up for this retrieve. I will have to check it out! Thanks again for the great content.
I've actually been experimenting with something similar, although I've been using swimbaits. I've been trying to get them to swim along the bottom just to see if I could get any interest. I'm very interested in trying it with a ned bait now. Those small morsels might be just what those bass are looking for!
It sure made a difference on this trip. If the bass were eating better I never would have forced myself to try fishing a Ned faster. It worked out well on this trip. Let me know how the swim bait stuff goes!
Hi Steve: for thoses finesse Jika Rigs I like using the Gamakatsu G-Lock hooks. I know they run smaller compaired to other style hooks. They work great though and the hookup and landing is amazing. Would love to know if you ever tried these hooks and how they worked for you.
Just caught a hog (for up here in northern MN) today poppin' a 4 in. Ned Rig. Just started using them this year and they've quickly become one of my favorite baits.
Great stuff. LowBrowFishing suggestion of a swimbait fish like a ned sounds great, particularly if you don't have a lot on rods on the deck. If rods are limited, my go-to is a Mud Minnow Ned from Z-man. It looks like a minnow, so I can do some covering water by just making it "swim" by imparting action with the rod tip and the retrieve.
I love the Ned rig up here in Canada. Expecially on rivers with rocks. I find with the Ned using it for years almost exclusively -- there ain't too many wrong ways to fish it. I've had luck dragging, popping, swimming but it works best IMO with small pops and shakes.
can you tell us about the setup you are using for that Ned rig? I can't find a video you mentioned where you discuss it. That little sinker and t-rig setup looks awesome
Hey Steve, I watched this video last night, and really liked the setup, but I am having trouble locating the "clip Weights" that you used. Could you share a link??
Steve, I don't comment on RUclips videos very often, but I really enjoy the content you create for us. Instructive, concise, and educational. Thank you, Brad
Steve, Try this. At no additional cost, use TRD Tubez or EZ tubez and rig them BACKWARD on a standard ned rig jig hook. Shove the back end of the hook first into the open end of the tube followed by the jig head portion. DO NOT penetrate the hook through the elaztech. Instead, penetrate just the jig head hook eye through the elaztech near the tube tentacles. This rig is weedless, falls tentacles first giving erratic action on the fall, snags less readily on the bottom owing to the tentacles navigating the bottom instead of the hard head, and hooks up well when bit as the hook readily penetrates the soft elaztech. Try rigging your Zman Ticklerz and Hula Stickz backward, too, to get fewer snags of the lead head in rocks. Hope this helpz (LOL … not affiliated with Zman… juzt having fun).
***I wanted to add that I’m aware of the other specialty jig hooks that Zman sells to make Ned rigs weedless ( i.e. Bulletz & Nedlockz jig hooks). These specialty heads still snag easily in rocks where the heads jam more often than hook points. The reverse rig minimizes this. Also, these specialty jig heads come at an extra cost of $$$ and storage space, whereas the method I describe above can be use with any common jig head, even a plain round head. No special keeper is needed. My thoughts.
Hey Steve…..love your videos. I thought I’ve seen all your videos but don’t remember seeing the jig-rig. I like it because like you said it’s weedless compared to an open head. I have to give that retrieve a shot!! Thanks as always for all your informative videos!! 🍻 Have a Happy and safe 4th!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
