    I started fishing my Ned-Rigs with a Drop-Shot bait tied from 24 to 30 or so inches above it, depending on the depth of water I'm fishing.
    Essentially, my Ned-Rig takes the place of the traditional Drop-Shot sinker.
    It works great. I've occasionally even gotten two bites off the same cast.

      I’ve done that and it works, but I feel like I overfish my ned rig when I do.

    terrific Ned overview, Jonathon! Appreciate your Christ reminder at the end. Good stuff from the heart! I love ned fishing when I need too. I have so many ned baits. Love the xzone too. I will have to try the crusteaz for sure. At least it looks awesome. 😂

    As a smallmouth guy who fishes in creeks around and in the Susquehanna River in PA you are 100% correct. I have so many of the EWG heads and they are a gamechanger! They seem to really like the TRD Hogz.

      They’re also overpriced and hard to get in the size you want majority of times - sure they’re great… I prefer a head that’s completely half round- Diesel Jigs (catch co.) hard hat neds are the best. I mean sure they snag.. but you can Damiki and minnow shake so effortlessly on them ( nedmiki) … which is one of my favorite ways to catch giant smallmouth up here in upstate ny. Giants find me on Fishbrain under this username

    nikko baits Zaza neds will easily hang with the z-man. I’ve caught over 80 smallmouth on 1 bait. They make the most durable baits on the market and it’s not even close. No hate on z-man though I like there products as well.

    I'll add a tip for the part about losing a fish when it jumps... I lighten my drag & also use a medium fast action spinning rod. That gives the fish some room to run. The big part I do is when a fish is fighting, dunk my rod all the way down to my reel in the water & fight it-- - I'm pulling the fish down in the water instead of up in the air. It has to fight a gabillion times harder to jump. I still get the fight, still see the rod bend to judge when to horse when to back off etc with a normal fight.
    Try dunking your rod in the water instead of having a 7' rod 12' above the water line... it lands more fish, simply put

    • @JD_Fishing
      @JD_Fishing  2 месяца назад

      Also a good idea! I always tighten my drag for the hookset and then back it off when they run! I haven’t tried dunking my rod yet! I’ll have to give that a try and see how it works!

      @@JD_Fishing I'll add another observation to be aware of... When a fish is on its way to the surface, watch your line like a hawk the closest to the boat/kayak because you'll see the like moving away from the boat- that's a telltale sign of an imminent jump- that's the moment I plunge it. it won't prevent jumps, but it's probably 90% effective at keeping them in the water. My brain? A head shake = a spit hook. (hopefully I didn't totally butcher the line watching scenario)
      I'm curious how it works out for you

    I'll trade cleaning off a little grass for an exposed hook. Ever try burying a hook into Elaztech? You have to bury it so deep to make it weedless, it will never come out once bit! No thanks. LOL

    • @JD_Fishing
      @JD_Fishing  2 месяца назад

      Haha that’s why I like that Ned EWG! You basically almost skin hook it and it comes through cleaner. I do bend it up a little bit though. I can be tough with elaztech though, there you are not wrong hahs

    • @tdbass2968
      @tdbass2968 2 месяца назад

      @@JD_Fishingyes agree 100%. I use these same weedless hooks and I always bend them out a few degrees. It makes a big difference hooking the fish.

    @Jonathan Dietz Fishing what are your favorite colors for the TRD CrawZ and Crusteaz?

    • @JD_Fishing
      @JD_Fishing  2 месяца назад

      It’s really hard for me to beat green pumpkin and then any craw color with a little orange in it! It really depends on the water color though, what’s your water normally look like?

      In the winter months the fish around here tend to fade in color when the water drops below 50 degrees. I really like the "greasy prawn" color for that situation. Fish slow,fish slow,.....if you think that you're fishing slow, slow down some more. I seriously can't stress that enough. I also use the Zman Ned lockZ EWG style jighead made by Tackle Tactics. Why???? Because I can't fish tight to the cover and it's gonna stand up every time. I will use rattles from time to time.

    How can you talk about hop skip jump med rigs and not talk about the baby Z/too (scented jerk shadz) on a 1st gen jaw dropper they have accounted for 5 5+lb (including a PB 5.14) smallmouth, and a plethora of 4s ..I really like it in shallow rock flats, humps, you can work them in any part of the water column with that jig head.. and they’re GREAT for flipping/vertical jigging laydowns on kayak..it’s such a deadly little laydown bait it’s ridiculous.. sight fishing it’s great, shallow - deep , don’t matter. Why is noone talking about that head with a baby z too or jerk shadz.
