  • I have had this idea for a few years to put a bass jig into a tube and this video shows you how to rig it up. Items used are deathgrip jig heads 1/4oz. and Zman EZ Tubez.

You can also make a " Stupid Tube" thats weedless.

The stupid tube rig is pretty cool, I had problems with my hook up ratio using it though. Using the bass jig seemed to help my hookup ratio and the ability to add trailers gives it more versatility in my opinion. Thanks for checking out the video!

Why’d you leave out one of the most important details of your rigging. Everyone doesn’t know how to get the brush guards through the plastic. That’s the critical stage. We need help, everybody is not a professional. Also it’s an awesome setup, but now I need to figure out what you skipped and left out.

Glad you liked the rig, since making that video I’ve changed how I get the weed guard through. I could make another video on that particular step if it would help. The short typed version is that I bunch the weed guard up in my fingers and insert it in the bottom of the tube. I push the weed guard through and have the bristles come out about an inch from the head of the tube. Then stretch the tube over the jig head. It’s important to use Zman, normal plastics will tear. If you’d like to see a video version of that I can try to upload one.

Your demonstration removes the benefits of a tube. The hollow body traps air, which allows the tube to glide in the water and sink very slowly. Using the same jig head with the weed guard on it all you do is put the hook into the tip of the tube slide The hook down into the inside of the tube and pop out on
the top.of the tube. the hook. Therefore it’s perfectly exposed. The tube remains hollow and you still have the same jig head. The tube is also straight your tube is bent. It loses its floating ability and the advantage of the construction of a tube. Depending on the water, I have hooked tubes up this way without a weed guard and with the weed guard. You can find little bitty, hollow balls about the size of a pee that fit into the tube from the rear ceiling the air in it. Your demonstration looks Like it will not work. There was a time when I only fished tubes and I tried every type of configuration.

Thanks for the feedback. Using the Zman tubes and trailers I’m able to get a slow fall and gliding motion. The trapping of air you mentioned does make sense. If using traditional plastics that sink it might be a deal breaker, but the elaztech tubes and trailer plastics float if unweighted and help to slow the rate of sink once weighted. After using this set up for a few years I have determined the major value of it is the easy ability to skip into heavy cover and either drag or swim out depending upon the situation. At first I was disappointed I couldn’t get the tube exactly straight but have noticed it gives a rocking motion when being retrieved that I think is an attractor. I’m planning to make a part 2/ revision video in which I address a few changes from my original set up. It will be very similar, just a few minor tweaks. I hope you will check it out once it releases and give your feedback on it. I appreciate any advice or feed back I receive. Tight lines.

I like the 2nd plastic as a trailer to slow the fall of the tube as if it were a jig and trailer. The ease of skipping with the tube over the jighead has been a big deal for me when fishing docks or low hanging brush. I do agree with you though that a trailer is not always necessary and just a weedless tube is a great presentation. Thanks for checking out the video! I appreciate the feedback.
