  • "This Guitar's In Love With You" is a 16-song album of guitar arrangements of Burt Bacharach's greatest songs. Burt himself requested Tommy to arrange "Close To You" after hearing his arrangement of "Winnie The Pooh" on the Sherman Brothers' album, "Poppin' Guitars".

      The truly great ones incorporate all the styles and tricks they learn over the years and make them their own. They are not trying to play like someone else. They have their own stamp and stand on the top of their own mountain.

      Tommy is certainly a master of technique, spontaneity, musical wit, taste, and power. His notes are classy. But not the best because there is no best. Just enjoy his music, and consider other possibilities too.
      In my opinion, it is better to think of a "Council Of Genuises" rather than a single best. For example, in 1975 in terms of rock guitar, my council would include Brian May, Steve Howe, Alex Lifeson, Tom Scholz, and Tommy Shaw and James Young. I'm sure others could create other councils.

      ***** I see no problem with Tommy. And I agree fully, tallent is sometimes crucial in some arts, but i know from experience, that people who don't hone their talents are nothing without it, THAT is what i'm pointing at. I spent insane ammount of hours on my Guitar Practice, over 10h daily, i have NO tallent and it takes THIS much to be at MOST average. Also, if you from sheer practice get to the point of Tommy without tallent, it's much more Fullfilinf than, if you had any tallent at all.

    • @plasticsam

    Tommy is an absolute master musician. He OWNS that guitar. It is one thing to play an instrument and quite another to completely master it. As everyone can also see, he feels the music while he's playing and gets lost in it. Tommy has brought me many hours and hours of listening pleasure. It's quite rare to come across these types of master musicians. My father was one. He was a jazz accordionist and fairly obscure, but in his time was considered the best jazz accordionist in the world. It was my father who taught me to appreciate great musicians, like Tommy Emmanuel.

    I'm gonna finally be confident say. Tommy Emmanuel is the single greatest guitar player to ever touch a guitar. Any one video is not worthy of what he can do. And no genre can stump him. He truly has not only all the knowledge of Allan Holdsworth but the emotion of Clapton, the guts of Johnny Cash and the more talent than all of the 80s combined. And I'm sticking to that.

    That's one bad dude right there. Every time I listen to Tommy I'm conflicted as to whether I should practice more or just stop playing all together. It's pretty humbling when you are forced to admit that you'll never reach his level of proficiency, regardless of the amount of time you spend trying to reach it. I'm pretty sure he's an alien or something.

    • @hyperhippyhippohopper
      @hyperhippyhippohopper 9 лет назад +21

      whatsthebigfndeal Listen friend, the only force that is pushing you to admit you won't reach his level of proficiency are the insecure thoughts that are taking hold of your mind. Tommy started somewhere, and he worked hard. Look at him shining now. He didn't acquire any of his skills by sheer luck or 'talent'. Only by a verocious hunger for improvement and fearlessness. That plus years and years of perseverance. There is nothing in this world that you can't achieve when you understand that the sky is the limit. Yes, you, too have the power in your hands to become one of the greatest. It's right there inside you. Unleash it. Unleash your beast!

      Decades(literally) of serious study, practice(& NOT only for an hour or 2 per day like most of us), perseverance & an obsession to continually improve(because you truly love it) would probably do the trick. But just because we can doesn't mean that we will.

      After one of Tommy's Master Classes, he invited us to come up and play 'his' guitar -(it wasn't his drum kit guitar, but one that still had finish on it.) The sad truth was I hated it! The action was like a shredder's guitar, string buzzes all over the place, etc. I play mostly on nylon strings and I found this instrument appalling. • @kamaboko1
      @kamaboko1 8 лет назад +9

      +Walter Boruta Let's not deny the element of natural talent. Some people don't have an ear for music, lack rhythm, and no creative imagination for music. This fellow has all of that AND practices.

    • @dankhanks
      @dankhanks 8 лет назад +8

      +kamaboko1 Some people put constant conscious effort into their passions even when
      they aren't playing or active in whatever passion. Some people have been
      active in their passions since they were young children. Claiming
      "natural talent" is extremely discrediting at what people have worked
      constantly to be able to achieve. Everyone perceives their own progress
      differently, everyone sucks before they are good and comfortable, but
      then "good and comfortable" doesn't mean excellent, it means we still
      have to push harder to feel okay with our progress, maybe he's not
      finished with his. From our perspective, it's hard to imagine much
      better. Have some respect, professionals all started as novices, they
      just didn't stop and they didn't put hard work and skill on some
      unreachable pedestal called "natural talent".

    Why do birds suddenly appear
    Every time you are near?
    Just like me, they long to be
    Close to you
    Why do stars fall down from the sky
    Every time you walk by?
    Just like me, they long to be
    Close to you
    On the day that you were born the angels got together
    And decided to create a dream come true
    So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair
    Of golden starlight in your eyes of blue
    That is why all the girls in town
