This is really useful to me (along with many of your other videos) in preparing for a band 7 interview. Like you, I didn't learn much about leadership at uni (and even if I had, it was a long time ago!) Thank you

Hi Carol, I'm going through most of your videos these days as I'm applying for a band 6 in education role. Thank you very much for these useful and very informative videos! Really helps. From this video, I just wondered can you enrol yourself onto the leadership programmes such as Edward jenner or Mary seacole or do you need your manager permission? Is that something you can do it in your own time?

I'm glad the videos help, thank you for the feedback. In answer to your questions, you can email the leadership academy - jenner@leadershipacademy.nhs.uk for up to date advice. The Edward Jenner intro course is free and on-line, taking a few hours each week so you don't necessarily need a manager to enrol. Although it's good to share what you do if your manager is supportive. Mary Seacole is over 6 months and there are some workshops you attend so you'd need time to attend and manager support. My understanding is you pay for Mary Seacole too - currently approx £995. However if you talk to your learning and development team they may pay fees. I'd say start with Edward Jenner intro module as its free and good for your CV, but do talk to lead educators / managers as they may have good advice too. You should try to talk to managers who have completed the course for the best insight. If you're applying for educator roles a teaching certificate would be good too.

@carolforde-johnston Thabknypu for the quick reply Carol! I have been thinking of quite some time I'd like to have a teaching qualifications and like to know more. Do you have any recommendations for teaching courses for someone who is interested into progressing to practice based education or clinical education? Hopefully I can get from my clinical educators to help me into this in my workplace.

@@L.M143 Check what your trust offers and supports first, as you may apply for CPD funding for teaching courses. Yes def talk to clinical educators too, to see which teaching certficate/ Diploma they did. Most Unis offer teaching certs for healthcare or professional education and you can top a certificate up to a post-grad diploma later. Contact your local Uni nursing / health and social care department as they will advise which is best course for someone aspiring to be clinical educator too. Wishing you all the best with it all.
