My RUclips channel offers practical guidance to support nurses' education and career development, from new starters to senior nurses. I’m passionate about supporting nurses' career progression through education, as I've encountered many challenges during my own career. For example, I failed my nursing finals and had to go through several interviews before I was finally offered a team leader role. I’m sharing everything I’ve learnt over my 35 years as a Registered Nurse and 28 years as a Registered Nurse Tutor. I hope you find my videos useful. Look out for new video uploads on Sundays and let me know if you have any questions or topics you would like me to cover. I wish you every success in your future nursing career! 😊 🍀

VERY INFORMATIVE,KEEPUP GOOD WORK
Thank you for taking the time to feedback
I have am upcomig interview for band 7 preassessment nurse. I would really like to know if there is a governing body that the preassessment service follows?
I hope your interview goes well. In the UK our regulatory body is NMC but there is the Pre-operative Association for all healthcare professionals: www.pre-op.org/ Also the Centre for Peri-operative care has pre-assessment guidance: www.cpoc.org.uk/preoperative-assessment-and-optimisation-adult-surgery NHS England: gettingitrightfirsttime.co.uk/seven-principles-of-best-practice-for-preoperative-assessment-outlined-in-new-guidance/ It also depends if it a specialist pre-assessment role e.g. paeds: www.apagbi.org.uk/news/best-practice-preassessment-guidance
@carolforde-johnston thank you so much. Much appreciated. I am doing a presentation on improving preassessment care so I need latest studies and recommendations. I will read the links sent. Keeping my fingers crossed.
@@lhamo08ify No problem there will probably be lots of good research papers/ journal articles that would signpost key areas too. Wishing you all the best in your interview. 🍀🍀🍀

Thank you for taking the time to do all these free interviews for nurses, really appreciate all the resources on your channel. 😍
I mean free videos not interviews!
@sharonwhitelaw1315 Glad it helps ❤️
It’s too intimidating really. After 3 years of stress to be stressed again to then go work under more pressure. Not bring negative but these interviews are too stressful. They need to make recruitment more transparent but training and induction more robust.if nurses are so vital and needed why make interviews so challenging. To be honest some revision is needed here.
@Smiles4034 It depends on the employer I would say.
Hi Carol! Thank you for this informative video. I referred to it a few times while preparing for my interviews. Happy to say I have received conditional offers from all five unis! Can’t wait to study MNurs Children and Mental Health! Thanks for your help 🩷
Well done! That is great news. Thank you for taking the time to feedback on the video ❤ Wishing you all the best with your degree course and in your future nursing career 🍀
What is the difference between ANP and ACP?
An ANP is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner so requires NMC UK registration whereas ACP is Advanced Clinical Practitioner so other professional groups can go for the role such as physio, OT etc. The job description will offer more detail on which healthcare professionals can apply and whether post open to both ANPs and ACPs. I hope that helps.
Hi Carol! I am a ED nurse for 12 yrs and transferred to Endoscopy for almost 2yrs. There is a PDN position in Endo and my experienced as preceptorship, quality link nurse and Charge nurse are all in ED. Does it help my experience for the job role as PDN even though I do not have long enough experience in Endoscopy? Thank u for your response in advance.
Yes, as you have lots of transferable skills from your previous role that would be applicable. As long as your meet the shortlisting criteria and essential requirements on the personal specification you can apply. Wishing you all the best with your application and interview. 🍀
@@carolforde-johnston thank you.. trying to search more about PDN role and interview questions.. your videos are helpful.. You’re such a big inspiration for aspiring nurses out there. Kudos for you Carol 👏

Hello Carol Thank you for this video. Please any particular pointers to my upcoming TACP job interview in Cardiothoracic unit? Please help me…
I hope the video helps you prepare and there are some key national resources and info on NHS England website that may help: gettingitrightfirsttime.co.uk/surgical_specialties/cardiothoracic-surgery/ Also have a look at the video on the 4 pillars of advanced practice and think about how you are working towards these pillars in your current role e.g. using research evidence-based practice, educating others etc. See link to video: ruclips.net/video/DwQjztgGCuo/видео.htmlsi=rsrB3PWnctj2l55f Wishing you all the best in your interview!
thank you so much for sharing your knowledge in a very digestiable manner!
Thank you for your feedback. ❤ I'm glad the video helps in some way.
In Sweden we have something which is called undersköterska - do you have something like in UK?
@savb01 We have a certificate for support worker called the Care Certificate but the Nursing Associate role is higher level as it's a 2 year evel 5 foundation degree that is registered with our nursing regulator the NMC.
*do you have something like that in UK?
@savb01 We have nursing assistant roles yes but in UK they are not certified nationally like in Sweden with a national board. We expect them to complete Care certificate.
Very informative and helpful, thank you
Thank you ❤
One of my colleague was struggling with the understanding between these terms as they are often used interchangeably and could also be very confusing at times. Your presentation could brought instant clarity that I was unable to bring in this particular situation. God bless you for the wonderful presentation!!

Wonderful advice! I'm a newbie support worker, but wish to become a nursing associate eventually.
Thank you @watching3644 I wish you every success in your future career journey 🍀
Thank you so much. would you please explaine the use of anaphical word "their' which reffers to the patient; their normally reffers to plural and patient is singular
@rachikadib7140 Thank you for the feedback ❤️ 'Their' may also be used to replace the singular possessive adjectives his/her e.g. when gender unknown or gender non-binary

These were good tips! I work as a school nurse in the U.S. so some differences but these scenarios and questions are pretty similar to ones I’ve had and seen.
Good to know and thank you for taking the time to feedback.
Hi Carol, thank you for the video it was really insightful, and will refer back to it when i am at the interview stage - i just finished my personal statement on UCAS! Just a couple of questions if i may. I already hold a degree in Computer Science, and i am a qualified teacher (was teaching teenage children with learning difficulties and behavioural issues) i have been teaching for around 3 years, however that came to and end as I suffered from mental health illnesses. As a person that has suffered from mental health problems the support that the NHS and other organisations has given me over the last 7 years as been outstanding, and now i am stable and happy! The support that i have received however as inspired me to be a support for others. I have always been compassionate and caring for other people (one of the reasons why i went into teaching), but with my existing skills and qualifications do you feel that I can use them in nursing, mental health? Thank you for your time and have a wonderful new year!
Absolutely, you have invaluable life experiences that will help you support others in mental health nursing ❤ You are applying for the right reasons to make a difference to others. I wish you every success with your future aspirations and interview 🍀
Thank you so much for this detailed interview guide, you're so amazing 👍
Thank you for taking the time to feedback, wishing you all the best with your interview.
Very helpful, thanks. Can you please confirm if a qualitative descriptive study is a methodology or a nethod? Many thanks.
Methodology is the theoretical framework that guides the research, whereas a method is the specific tool(s) and procedures used to collect and analyse data. A qualitative descriptive study is usually the research design/ methodology and you state what specific methods you use to capture the data in the methods e.g. interviews. I hope that helps.
Thank you for.this video. Do you have any interview advice for trainee ANP role at Medical Ambulatory care?
@onomeakpos2522 Most of the advice in the video but for specialist role see national guidelines, e.g. NICE www.england.nhs.uk/urgent-emergency-care/same-day-emergency-care/ambulatory-emergency-care-guide/

Can please confirm, if a cross-sectional study a methodology or method.
@blessingdominic1751 A cross-sectional study is a research methodology that usually uses observation as a research method to analyse data from a population
Thank you very much, you're Star

This is so useful and well put together,Thank you, I'm currently in the UK, I'm doing my A levels, but I'm not an home student, I really want to be a child nurse, but I don't know if I am eligible to take them or even where to find level 6 degree apprenticeship. Any assistance or relevant information will be much appreciated.
I'm glad it helps and well done doing your A levels. You could apply for a full-time pre-registration Children's 3-year nursing degree or apprenticeship with an NHS Trust. It is best if you network with local apprenticeship leads at hospital trusts and they will tell you when apprenticeships will be advertised. Often they prefer you to work as a Children's HCA first before support an apprenticeship. Hope that helps.
@@carolforde-johnston Thank you for you response, i haven't been able to find nurse apprentice around me, I will put in more effort into research.
@tolulola Don't worry they usually are advertised twice a year so there may be some out Feb/March time ready for Sept but apprenticeship leads will let you know. Don't be afraid to contact them for advice.
Thank you ❤️

If I am an experienced nurse with ITU skills in terms of transferable skills what points should I answer about
It depends on the type of research role but you will have transferable organisational and leadership skills working in ICU. Your practice is underpinned by current research, you will be used to recording data confidentially and maintaining informed consent. If you have any QI/ research project work you may draw from this too. I hope that helps.

Hi what if the article doesn't explicitly state a study design. Is this a limitation?
@ro12350 You can critique this yes, stating that the study design is not explicitly stated or clear, however... then state what is clearer e.g. X suggests that researchers used X type of methods or numerical data is presented which reflects a quantitative research approach (if this was the case)
