- Kevin Nash, wrestling's six-time World Heavyweight Champion and twelve-time Tag Team Champion, is inviting YOU to become an insider in the most exclusive band of rebels in the Podcast sphere! Kevin and his crew grabbed the wrestling business by the sack in the 90s and never let go, making his Kliq the most powerful faction in the history of the business, both on camera and off. They spent countless hours together, riffing on the business, the lifestyle, and everything else under the sun, and this podcast is no exception. Kevin left wrestling and built a successful career as an actor and guest on dozens of talk shows. His opinionated nature has made him the most requested guest of shoot interviews and network shows for more than a decade. Now, Kevin and his frequent host Sean Oliver, bring you all that you loved about their shows in this weekly podcast. No guest or topic is off-limits. Are you sweeeeet enough.......to be the next member of the Kliq?

I didn't know the Michaels of the 90's but the one I met in the 00's made it worth meeting one of my favorite wrestlers. He did a book signing. Instead of getting up and leaving when the autograph time was finished, he stayed an extra hour to say hi to every fan in line.
So you know he’s a great guy from your 30 second meeting
@@mralapenosarespicy absolutely.
@@mralapenosarespicyso you know Shawn just by interviews from talentless wrestlers who cry about being "held back" ?
Most people make up their opinions of others based on what someone else has said, rather than personal experience.
HBK in my opinion is the greatest wrestler of All Time. As he grew older he def changed for the better. That era of wrestling was just the best.
Gifted in-ring guy but Shawn's rise to "top dog" in '96 saw WCW take a wide lead in the Monday Night Wars.

His title runs were a joke
He and Nash were on record the lowest drawing WWE champions of their era. They only got themselves and each other over.
Especially when Bret Hart in his WWE title runs in the 90s drew more money than Shawn Michaels. Bret was especially a draw in England Canada and Germany (to a lesser extent the United States)
Shawn’s chip and dale gimmick never put butts in seats

Nash is a stand up guy. I wish I could meet him one day and just let him know I think so. Legend
I think people have to realize that Shawn fought tooth and nail for the top spot. Anybody in his position would have then did anything they could to keep that spot. I still think that Shawn wanted greatness from the storylines he was in BUT it’s also possible that Shawn wanted to protect his top position. I don’t hold anything against him for that except for the drugs ruining all of his redeeming qualities.

My favorite all time moment from Shawn Michael's was when he completely humiliated Hogan .
His overselling was priceless 🤣.
Except he made an ass of himself and the only one that left that night a humiliated laughing stock was Michaels, but okay.
Wasn’t that after Michaels’ supposed “life change?”
Sure reminded me of the old Shawn on that night.
@@Ken9284 Right. What a changed man. "I follow God and I am changed now!"
Vince: "You're putting over Hogan."
Shawn proceeds to act like typical Shawn soon as he has to do a job. Unprofessional as fuck and that match was a slap in the face reminder of WHY 3 million fans changed the channel to Nitro everytime his music hit.
Of course what all the marks leave out when they bring this up to beat off to the Boytoy is that it literally was the same old Shawn.
Vince had booked that as a 3 PPV feud. Match 1 Hogan goes over, match two Michaels, match 3 Hogan. In typical "I haven't really changed at all" Michaels fashion he went to Vince and politicked it that he goes over in match 1. Everyone knows this Shawn scam, you do the job in the first match and he snakes his way out of any possible rematch where he has to do a job. Hogan refused to play the game and told Vince he would do one match, Michaels jobs and that's it. I guess the bigger draw in history had more stroke than the worst draw in history as Vince agreed to it.
He threw a hissy fit on national TV and still had to do the job. I don’t think Hogan was the one humiliated.

Big Kev will always be Shawn's Bodyguard but those "Big Money Years" Shawn got paid $750k a year to sit at home so they didn't lose him to WCW
Which is kind of dumb in itself. What was Shawn going to do in WCW? He couldn't wrestle until 2000, and was still an addict until 2002. Would've been a huge disaster for WCW and maybe even himself.

A good question would be, what would have become of HBK if the Kliq never formed. Without these guys (thinking specifically more of Nash and Triple H) looking out for him and keeping him from getting himself in deep shit, or a grave.
Their all practically actors so not much would have happened 😂
I'll go one better. If there is no kliq, there is no DX if there is no DX there is no Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Rock. I'm not saying shawn and hhh didnt have a lot to do with it just that it was on it's way. As far as Shawn's return it's kinda funny he came back to in ring action when his contract came up and he wasnt sitting at home making that free money anymore. There were so many stories of how Shawn wasn't exactly the nicest guy but you know, like all of us, we have chances, we all are able to change. The past is the past. I don't condone what he has done but people need to see how well spoken he is now a days, especially the younger talent that in NXT that have spoken very well on Shawn. No one is ever perfect. Pretty sure it was club 31 next to the pool hall in North Syracuse that Shawn got messed up. Though I’m sure plenty of time spent at the clubs near Utica too
Kev accidentally made a big point! EVERYONE did their best when away from Shawn.. WOW… Kev and Scott left.. blew up… Shawn left.. EVERYONE else blew up… Must of killed Shawn inside..
HHH said that on Raw in April 2003 in a promo.

But remember this, the most success YOU HAVE HAD in your career, and the most success I've had in my career, was when we FINALLY WALKED AWAY FROM HIM!"
95: Diesel and HBK split. Diesel becomes the first member of Kliq to be world champ. One of the longest reigns as champion.
96: Diesel is the First Kliq member to work Undertaker at a WM.
96: Left WWF for WCW, for bigger money, co-founded the nWo and a new level of fame erupted.
HHH 97: Perceived by casual fans as HBK's lackey.
HHH 98: Once the proverbial leash was taken off his neck showed he was really the engineer behind DX while HBK was the poster boy getting most of the recognition. Once he officially took over as leader, the group skyrocketed in popularity and trumped everything he and HHH that five months in 97-98 as a duo. The quartet had epic rivalries, skits, matches,.titles, and made loads of money dragging the company out of the war. Austin didn't do it by himself.
HHH 99-01 Because the 3rd Kliq member to become world champ. But the first dominant heel champion the WWF, breaking from tradition where they usually have the good guy be the face of a franchise. Carried Austin and Rock into unwordly levels of iconic status that some would argue surpassed Hogan. Becomes the 2nd Kliq member to work Undertaker at WM.
And HBK did reveal in his book (both the DX one and the Wrestling for my life) his jealousy about HHH'S success during that time. And during Nash's HOF induction finally admitted he also was jealous of Nash getting the strap before him.
He later went on to say he was both jealous of them, but happy for them at the same time.
If you believe Nash on how competitive HBK is, then it's possible for him to be both. Be proud of his boys personally. But also envy them professionally.

Correct, it was way before HBK's back injury
I might be wrong but going on Rocky Johnson’s interview the incident was this was based on HBK giving Sweet Chin Music to The Rock during a referee match with Triple H that The Rock wasn’t happy about how hard he was kicked which would be 2000. I know about the initial disrespect shown by HBK earlier in his career but this must be the best kept secret in wrestling if it happened after 2002. If someone knows better tell me as onscreen they didn’t cross paths other than when HBK made the save with Triple H and Brock was involved. Offscreen never heard this before if after 2002.

I feel there’s a difference between “being competitive” and being a bad person. Almost every story about Shawn reveals some very nasty things about him. I think especially how him and HHH tried to keep the Rock down. Only for Rock had undeniable charisma and was destined for stardom, he could have been really derailed by their backstage shenanigans. Stevie Richards, RVD, Hurricane, Bam Bam, Cornette all told some bad stories about HBK.
The only sympathy I have for Shawn is that he tried so hard, both inside and outside the ring, to reach the top spot. And when he finally got there, his buddies down south completely upstaged his first title run with the NWO. I think Shawn struggled with the pressure of being the face of the company at a time when it was losing heavily to WCW and when it came time for Shawn to be switched out for Bret, he couldn’t take it and “lost his smile” instead of working the program for Wrestlemania. And then when he looks to be back on top in late 97, he has back problems and a rising star in Austin to hand the torch to. He then misses wrestling’s greatest boom years between 1998 and 2002. Sure he had a great second run but I bet if you asked Shawn which period he would have preferred to work in, it would have been those Attitude Era years, he would have been younger and getting big pay days. 2002-2010 were not great years for business in the WWE.
The guy who does these with Kevin seems like such a Billy Bush level out of place enabler.
Finally, after all these years, people, it is pronounced kleek not klik, sheesh.
Stiff back HBK with his hair chopped at shoulder length was like a totally different person, i guess back surgery and a fused spine can do that to a person. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was amazed what he could still do with a spine that looked locked and straight
HBK never had a "fused" spine, in fact his whole back injury is debatable all together. Many who wrestled with him at the time didn't believe it and the way Shawn came back and as still kipping up and flipping over ropes, moonsaulting etc like a 25 year old made a mockery of the idea he had a "stiff back". The whole back injury was more likely just a cover for the fact Michaels needed time off to deal with his cocaine and ecstasy habit as he was turning up to work wasted every week.
@@rtmclean484he did injure his back 100% it’s the “lost my smile” injury that was a lie
HBK, one of my favorites and one of the greatest pro wrestlers I've ever seen. Like a lot of us were in our twenties, he had his moments of acting like an egomaniacal asshole. I'm not condoning anything, merely giving my opinion. Think about your own work place. Aren't there some politics and territorial things going on? Now imagine being in the limelight, money, pushes. It would seem when he came back in '02, he was more mature. Now if he still is like that in his fifties ....😜
Shawn was only nice to him because he knew he could protect him
Shawn reminds me of me in my college friends’ group. I was always the one under the spotlight and problems always came. Whether it was with women or men getting pissed, getting wasted for my ass, etc. I was a lot to handle and people did not like me, im sure.
I was that guy. That’s why I relate to Shawn.
When you let the Vanilla Midgets run the show, there are always issues. Need a Hogan, Andre, Taker, etc to keep everything in check.

Shawn was a dick because he was an addict. Addicts aren't generally concerned with people's feelings.
Kevin knows the truth but won’t slate his mate . That’s fair enough
I have heard enough from good old Jr and others to know 90s Attitude Era Shawn Michaels was a complete prick and hard to get along with Kevin says just so you know Kevin Nash is one of my all-time favorites but he flat-out lying for his buddy
Shawn was so into himself it was all about Shawn come fuckin on
Michaels is the man who cares what the marks say
Transition was on from massive guys to smaller, faster, high-energy guys.
In an arena of 20 thousand fans, the top WWE wrestler used to look like he could take out any guy in there.
No average dude was going to eff with Hulk Hogan.
When fans saw Shawn Michaels in person, some nimrods thought, "Gee, he's not very big, I could probably take him"??!
That thought about the WWE Heavyweight Champion should never cross the mind of an average dude!
In the current era, there's many WWE wrestlers that are even smaller than Michaels.
I met John Morrison once at an indie show. I'm 6 feet tall and was bigger than him.
Shawn always was arougant all the time I saw him in the AWA but he had the right to be
I think Shawn's back injury was a work. He leaves after Stone Cold beats him and comes back after the Rock and Stone Cold leave as full time wrestlers. Too coincidental.
Why can't some people put a sentence together without saying fucking
Fans of HBK and the Rock definitely want to know why those two legends couldn't put aside differences to make bigtime money together. There had to be a reason. C'mon nash. Spill it.
Shawn disrepected the Rock's Gran is what I heard.
Because Rock is an actual Legend and doesn't work with Curtainjerkers that don't draw.

Two WWE legends. And we're talking about a time and era where every wrestler fought everyone hundreds of times. They didn't get in the ring once together. Something really big is there.
@@AndrewMay537 Michaels isn't a Legend. He is the worst drawing WWF Champion in History. The Rock one of the biggest.
They never worked together because in 1997-1998 Michaels was trying to bury The Rock in the company. The Rock then went out and did what Michaels never could: Draw and make money.
He had zero reason to go backwards and carry Michaels through a match, a match Michaels would have spent the entire time politicking Triple H to get Vince to book The Rock doing the job in.
Rock only started to blow up big in 98 after Shawn left/took his extended leave. Vince obviously needed another top guy to replace Shawn and the Rock was ascending at just the right moment and got the push to take the space HBK had vacated. By the time Shawn came back in 2002 the Rock was leaving WWF/E to pursue his hollywood acting career. So I think timing as much as anything is the real reason they never had a fued/storyline together. Realistically when would it have happened?
are the maivia's above criticism?
I never had a problem with Shawn.
HBk is the greatest ever and HBk with diesel wass my two favorite wrestlers along with razor. I jates watching Shawn vs razor because I knew one had to lose
What's the Steiner and Shawn connection?
Sean has to go a little harder with these types of questions if you are going to ask them..
9 minutes to say Shawn was a doped up POS and magically got forgiveness for going to church?
i love shawn, loved him from his debut to the end, but let be real, in the 90-00, he was a powerfreak controler, on drugs, he wanted to stay at the top everytime, and anyone on his path was destroy like vader, he tried hard with the rock to destroy him but the rock was too must a super wrestler for him to destroy him.
love the man, but he was a jerk in '90 , at least he changed for the best and is a cool and zen man today
Rob Riggle fucked up one of Shawn's eyes.
I live in Utica, so hearing that HBK could have been fucked up in some clubs in the city that I am from sounds so hilarious and insane to me lmao
Sounds like a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training. Seriously, it’s so catty! Put yourself training hours daily with the same type of person, wanting to do same thing professionally, & people WILL try to knock you down if they see you as a threat no matter industry to move up.
It really erks me like a LOT..... that Bret (and I love Bret to death) AND FANS will NEVER let the Goldberg match go. They will just NEVER get over it and move on. But those same exact fans say fk all of nothing about the undertaker and Shawn's match. Not a hint, not a whisper nor a word. Same is true for the Owen Hart and Steve Austin match. Nobody brings up Rick rudes name whenever sting is talked about. It took me like 5 minutes to decide to use d'los name in this post but I just decided to because with the exception of Darren drozdoff all of those men were VETERANS that made HUGE mistakes. So my question is: how can everyone on that list be forgiven and the fans moved on. WHY the F is Goldberg the only one that is not redeemable?
I get what you're saying and pretty much agree. That said, most people don't bring up the Michaels/Undertaker match because deep down even the fanboys know it was bullshit. Go re watch it. Michaels back never hits the casket ND his hip barely grazed it. He never at any point right after the match said anything about his back being destroyed and needing surgery.
No, instead he suddenly brought it up when Vince told him he was jobbing to Austin at WM. Suddenly his back was destroyed from "hitting the casket" he never hit and "I need immediate surgery." It was losing his smile, the concussion and the fake knee injury all over again.
As for Sting/Rude, it's not brought up because it was so long ago and a freak accident.
Owen was brought up as dangerous in the ring until he died, then all was forgiven.
Bret won't let the Goldberg accident go, and the estrogen filled Beta marks all hate Goldberg for not being a 135lb gymnast so they refuse to let it go either. It's not right, but it's the world we live in.
@@onewarriornation602Michaels back injury wasn't bullshit. His lower did land on the edge of the casket. He had surgery in 1999 after unsuccessfully trying to rehab it. There's proof of the surgery. I doubt he did it to keep up appearances. He was able to wrestle by 2000. But his issues kept him out of WWE until '02
EDIT: Notice that from Royal Rumble '98 til WM14 Shawn didn't wrestle at all in the buildup to the match with Austin. Then watch the match with at WM14. As the match goes on Shawn's posture stiffens up and he can barely climb to the top rope. I believe he was hopped up on pain killers for that match.
@@Lord_Bibulous Better go rewatch that match with Undertaker. At no point in the match does his lower back make contact with the casket. His hip barely, BARELY grazed it not even to the point of an impact injury.
He barely Wrestled because he told Vince he was done doing jobs and "helping to put people over." Vince had to fully pivot to Austin and do whatever it took to force Michaels to job the belt.
Again, at no point did Michaels say anything at all about a back injury until Vince told him Austin was the guy moving forward and Shawn would be putting him over. It was at that point Austin claimed his back was broke and started trying to get out of the match.
Funny how a guy with a "broken back" leave the WWF and immediately starts a wrestling school where he is taking bumps with students every day. Not to mention doing matches in his Texas Indy Fed in 1999.
There's zero evidence of any back injury or supposed surgery. Shit, there's more evidence of the Loch Ness Monster than there is of Michaels ever injuring his back.
Fact is, Vince told him Austin was the top guy moving forward and yet again Michaels faked an injury to get out of doing the job. That failed and he "retired" instead of putting people over until Austin was on the way out and then miraculously one day his non-existent back injury healed itself and he made his grand return to the WWE to continue his career of not drawing money and burying superior talent.
@@onewarriornation602 Dude there was articles written about it in San Antonio's local paper. You saying they were in on it too???
@@Lord_Bibulous If that's even true, which it's a 99% chance isn't true at all, they were writing it based off of the WWF selling his phoney injury on TV and in their Magazines.
