I mean he was the best powerlifter in the world in the late 90s and just decided to switch to olympic lifting and before you know it, he smashed American records and is crushing people. That is unheard of. I've done both sports, it is not normal to excel in both sports, much less at the international level. He is literally one in a billion.

Could Cael Sanderson beat Shawn Michaels in a Shoot Wrestling Match? I always wondered if College/NCAA/Amateur Wrestlers could beat Top PROS like Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan or even the MIZ if it was a REAL Wrestling Match?
I think you're exaggerating a lot of them would be able to beat up Michaels but people act like he was tiny or something. There's been lots of smaller wrestlers than Shawn over the years and i doubt he is the weakest there ever was there is a lot he would beat up and be alot harder to beat up than u think. He was pretty tough in being able to take punches & starting fights that he knew he'd probably lose. If he was as much of a wimp as people say he would not be as rude to guys he was rude to over the years & starting fights he'd run a mile instead.

For those who don’t understand, the fact that he was the world champion in powerlifting and a national champion weight lifter that same year is beyond insane!!! They are 2 completely different animals. The technique alone as a powerlifter is flabbergasting. I had been training powerlifting for 4-5 years and had barely touched the surface of perfecting my technique. I started training Olympic weightlifting And it was months of form work before I was even allowed to put weight on the bar. Powerlifting is pure power used in the most controlled way possible. 90+% of Olympic weight lifting is the technique needed to throw and catch hundreds of pounds above your head.
Some people are just built different his body is just really good at maintaining mass.
So both involve lifting really heavy things... 👍

@@charlesleeray8977 short answer is that powerlifting is based on the squat, bench press, and deadlift, whereas Olympic weightlifting is based on the Snatch and Jerk.
Strongman is actually a separate sport from the other two...and he achieved greatness in that too.

A couple weeks ago I found myself debating a dude who tried to convince me Mark Henry wasn't one of, if not the strongest person in the WWE from the time he entered to about the time he left. He was trying to convince me his opinion of Cena being the strongest somehow overrode the actual numbers Mark put up in competitions all over the world from the Arnold Classic to the Olympics.
Cena was undoubtedly very strong in his prime for a normal person/lifter but Mark Henry was legit one of the strongest men of all time. Arnold even said that Mark was one of the strongest human beings he'd ever seen

Mark Henry is most likely the strongest man to ever come through WWE. There are some incredibly strong guys, Cena being one of them, but Mark had the numbers to back it up. MH is a monster athlete who should have had more titles and better storylines. Between his athleticism and his mic skills (look up his retirement speech when he wears his salmon colored jacket), Mark was insanely talented and deserved a better run than he had.
As for Shawn Michaels. Fuck that guy. I know I wouldn't last in the locker room cause I don't think shitting in people's sandwiches and hiding people's crutches are "pranks". I agree with almost all of it. Shawn wasnt trying to rib you. At the time, he was an asshole and he was taking advantage of the fact that Vince had his back. Mark Henry had a lot of records and a lot of championships but he never won "World's Strongest Man", a good chance he could have, never took part.
I think he was in worlds strongest man competition but not the main televised one nowadays. I maybe wrong. Don't think he won it either

Did not win in the Olympics but I think he did medal.
Not the worlds strongest man but probably legit top 10.
They were calling him the worlds strongest drug free man. They combined his best powerlifting and weightlifting lifts. He never won the official Strongest man contest.
His combined lifts in bench/squat/deadlift + I think two Olympic lifts were higher combined than anyone's, and I think that's still true today.
But people who specialize in those don't ever do them all like he did, so it's more a case of no one has really bothered. The training is different.
I think he got a Silver medal in something pretty prestigious, and he got first place in some Arnold strong man thing, or something, but outside of his Olympic stuff when he was very young, he's never really won anything.

I think he also deadlifted 900 ( might have been a few pounds more) at that meet when the All Time dl record was still held by Garry Heisy at 926 but I can’t remember the exact weight. Anyways ( sorry to ramble) I think your correct about the lifts being the 3 powerlifting plus 2 of the Olympic lifts being the highest. In my earlier comment I mistakenly said the 3 power lifts plus 3 Olympic lifts.

He got in bar fights all the time, and never won a single one.
