The fact that undertaker sacrificed much of his personal life to keep up the persona for the fans and kids who loved him really shows you what kind of guy he is. A class act, and undoubtedly the most iconic wrestler in history.

I heard Roddy Piper say, talking about when people tell him he’s the “best wrestler to never hold the belt,” he always thinks about how you give the belt to someone to get them over. Taker is the best example of that. A guy who could have believably in kayfabe beaten any wrestler at any time in his career but hardly held the title because he didn’t need it.
Part of what worked was having two main events. The title match and Undertaker's streak.
Well part of it was that he didn't need it, but the other part is the problem of how do you get the belt back off him? It's the same reason why Andre never had a major world title reign. It wasn't cause he didn't "deserve" it or that he wouldn't be over as champion. You can't put that belt on him because you can't beat Andre so you can't get the belt back. It's why he mainly held tag belts. Beat the other guy, Andre wasn't beaten, he just lost. Similar to Undertaker.
same can be said about Shawn Michaels during his second run from 2002. He only won the world title once and would mostly put others over but still had some of the best matches in wwe.
Bret had it in his contract that he had creative control over his character for the last 30 days. One of his points was, he wouldn't drop the title in Canada. He has said he'd prefer to drop it to 'Taker, but he was also fine with forfeiting the title the next day on Raw
Reasonable creative control...big difference. Deciding who gets the belt when he's leaving isn't "reasonable".
Trish Stratus won the Women's Title in her retirement match at Unforgiven 2006. That's kinda weird. She vacated next night. Vince could've simply done the same for Bret.

The tragedy is that although Bret was wronged his stubbornness ultimately cost him a lot more than it cost Vince. If the screw job had never happened Bret possibly returns to the company sometime in ‘99 when they are in a far better financial position and he never suffers the concussion.

What you fail to realize is at that time WWF and WCW were competitors so Vince couldn't risk the chances of letting Bret leave with the title despite Bret saying he would've vacated it the next night

I only saw it once before, on the TSN show Off The Record with Michael Landsberg. Probably because Landsberg always treated the wrestlers with respect and conducted real interviews with them
Reminded me of Lil Jon the rapper. All anyone knew was him for screaming his catch phrases like "What!" "Okay!!" and "Yeahh..!".. Then sometime post 2010, he appeared on some celeb reality shows and when he talked normally, the internet freaked out lolll.

I love the detail of Taker taking Shawn aside and sitting next to him. That speaks so highly of this man's character and diplomacy. He knew that Shawn could escalate an already hostile situation even further so he not only removed him from the situation, he sat next to him to both silence him AND protect him should something go badly.

Definitely, you always hear stories about certain guys being dickheads behind the scenes, but nobody ever says anything bad about Taker. I think he and Mick Foley are two of the most respected guys in the business and well known for being genuinely good dudes.
It always has been a dream of mine to meet him, and tell him what an inspiration he is to this autistic college graduate. I grew up, idolizing this man, and I am proud to say he is still my idol. Thank you for 30 years of excellence, sir, Mr. Undertaker. :)

I could sit and listen to these 'Taker interviews for days on end. Just an absolute wealth of knowledge about my childhood, and I am so glad he's doing more of these now since he's retired. What an invaluable character to the business and person to the industry. An absolute legend and I was so incredibly lucky to get to watch it live every week on television.

Listening to a guy who's career spans from the end of the Cartoon era, through Attitude into WWE and you get a sense that Mark realises that everyone has been expendable to Vince and only his sense of what was right and what was wrong kept him from becoming a victim of Vince's mind games

My god after Undertakers Hall of Fame induction where he got a 15 minute standing ovation, this is so cool to hear him FINALLY speak. He really was the King of the locker room. I love this man.
Getting to hear Mark tell these stories is great. Undertaker was a phenomenal character. Mark put his heart and soul into it. That is why it lasted so long.
I could literally listen to this man talk all day, he's got decades buried in kayfabe that he can finally open up about, and I want to hear all of it
If he wrote an autobiography it would be longer than War and Peace, but we would all read every sentence in awe, he will have more stories to tell about WWE than just about anyone.

I have to give Mark(Undertaker)much deserved credit for the professional that he’s always been. I could hear that he was trying to take all sides into consideration, but he also believed in what was right and stood up for his peers as long as they maintained their professionalism. From what I’m hearing, he must have had a sixth sense in him that he had a sense that something might happen in the match.
I have been a Undertaker fan since he first appeared on Survivor series November 22nd 1990. I have always respected him and his character portrayal. I can't wait to see him inducted into the WWE HoF. It will be a sad day as it will finally hit home that I will never see him in the ring again.
To hear Undertaker thoughts about the most controversial night in wrestling history is nothing short of refreshing and interesting as I've always wanted to hear his take on the Montreal screwjob with Vince Mcmahon and Bret Hart. I could listen to his stories for hours as he is so honest, a true legend and a real first class act.

He’s finally breaking character for the first time in his career. All the stories you’d never hear are finally coming out.
And his episode in Steve's Austin program was amazing too and full of stories
It's surreal to see and hear the Undertaker without his spooky voice. The only time I cried watching the WWE was during WM30. He'll always be the Greatest gimmick in wrestling history.

So many guys are afraid of pissing other people off and getting in trouble for it. But Taker tells the truth and keeps everything 100. If he shoots on someone in a bad way, you know they must have it coming because it's Taker and he's always ever been a professional guy. They had a "Wrestler's Court" in the locker room when problems flared up among the talent, and Taker was the judge who would hear out both sides objectively and issue punishments (typically, the guy found to be at fault had to buy the other guy a case of beer).

The Undertaker had said something very important in this interview. Nowadays wrestlers have less moves, so nowadays they don't even want to watch wrestling, they get annoyed. We've been watching The Undertaker since we were little, he wrestled before we were born, but it's still unique to watch him or his wrestling matches, watching his matches with excitement. Yeah pretty much Taker's style evolved through the years. He incorporated a lot of striking during his Biker era, and some MMA style subs during his second run as the Deadman

@@freddiem6805 lol, hogan got a leg drop and some theatrics, which later led to him having to do multiple back surgeries after thousands of leg drops, otherwise as a wrestler hogan is not that impressive, he's more successful cus of the charisma and character of hulk hogan imo

Undertaker has so much wisdom, and stories, to share. I could listen to him speak all day.
Everyone talks about Undertaker is on everyone's GOAT list. I don't have him on my GOAT wrestlers list. I feel like he needs his own one. Like I don't look at him as a wrestler. I look at him like it's "The Undertaker". He's a larger than life figure. I have to keep him apart from all the GOATS because he's just something else.

I remember when the Undertaker made his first appearance on WWF, I was only 10 years old at the time and I was like "Who is this guy" then I saw him do the Tombstone for the first time and I was hooked. I'm 40 now and it's crazy to still see the Deadman still doing his thing.

Wow, I never would have guessed that one of my childhood heroes sounds just like another one. But Troy Aikman and the Deadman too close. Imagine the football game in which those two provide commentary on.
I'm 38, and I remember that epic Survivor Series Entrance. I was young, but was so wowwed. So amazed. Ted Debiase myself partner. Still gives me chills.
I can listen to Taker speak about the past for hours. Im 39 so this was all from my era. I been a fan since 1989/90
Man i would love to hang out with Taker and listen to his stories, ask some questions. This guys has been my favorite wrestler since i was in elementary school and no one has ever replaced him. I used to look him up on the internet to see what he was really like in real life. There was almost nothing online back in the day. Seeing him in Broken Skull Sessions was so weird to me.
I’m 40 this year and I’m so unbelievably happy taker is healthy enough to do these interviews. Thank you taker for over 20 years of memorable moments.

Taker has EARNED the respect of his peers, the fans and the WWE. Also - the fact he waited until Don Jardine retired before walking the ropes speaks volumes about the character of the man.

Hearing Undertaker talk out of character is crazy. He's very well spoken and so humble.
How The Undertaker made himself a legend, is how every other legend did; You give something the fans haven't seen before, and can't be imitated in every possible way. Not just in character, but the entire style. Verbage, look, even all the way down to how they walk, and get in and out of the ring. Even how they deliver a punch or kick. I always say that every single legend, no matter who it is, could be in the ring, as a silhouette with the same size and shape of the silhouette across from them, and you could tell within about 15 seconds or less of the bell ringing who you were looking at anyway. Every single legend is that way, as is The Undertaker. We haven't seen a new legend in the making in forever, because so few have the nuances down to pass the silhouette test in the ring. They may play different characters. But they don't 'become' them enough to give them a unique life.
So awesome to hear these stories from The Undertaker's point of view. As a fan since childhood it was always in question whether he would eventually write a book or just break character altogether and unveil his insight from such a legendary career. The fascinating thing about the Montreal Screw Job is no Screw Job no Mr. McMahon character, no Mr. McMahon character no Stone Cold Steve Austin versus Mr. McMahon and his goons storylines. It all somehow came together as it needed to be. In a way the Screw Job helped launch the Attitude Era. An amazing era for us wrestling fans that we still talk about today, and hold in such high regard.

Yeah, cause Shawn said he wouldn't put Bret over. If they ask Bret to put anyone else over, he would. They just should have done that.
It was McMahons ego. Bret said he wouldn't drop it to Shawn so Vince of course had to make it about himself and get in a pissing match with Bret.
Oh totally. Taker wins belt from Bret, drops to Shawn would have been the drama free route.
Even Bret said he would drop the belt to anyone except shawn at that time.
Problem was between vince and Bret that things were so sour maybe Vince just couldn’t trust that Bret would drop to anyone.
Not saying that is right - I absolutely believe that Bret would have dropped to several different people on the roster - just specifically not Michaels.
But if the trust is gone, it’s gone. And if you *cannot* take the risk ... then I think it’s understandable that Vince did what he did what he did. Not right. Not even nearly. Just understandable.

My God, the backstage stories that this legend could tell us. So many years, so many wrestlers come and gone, you know he knows things.
I've been waiting years to hear these kind of shoot interviews with Taker.

“Someone said why don’t you watch the match in Vince’s office.” I’ll bet Prichard told ‘Taker that.
I read somewhere Vince was actually hiding somewhere backstage and the Undertaker had a very serious talk with him and somehow convinced him to talk with Bret, which led to the him getting punched.
From the undertakers own words in this interview, Vince was already on his way when the undertaker was looking for him and told Bret “I’ll give you one” and took the punch.
But it was so many years ago and memory is a fuzzy thing. We will never know.

His story completely corroborates the version told in "The Dark Side of the Ring." Very cool.

When Undertaker talks about the screwjob, It confirms my opinion that, all those people who are coming out saying it was a “work” are just full of it.
It’s a known legit screw job. Even Steve Austin talked about it and other wrestlers.
I mean, I really don't mean this rudely, but you couldn't figure that out on your own? Bret wouldn't have held onto this, for so long, if it was just a work. People like Pac & Hall like to point to the fact that the doc was being filmed, as "proof" bc Vince would've never allowed it at the time, but Bret got Vince to sign off on that, when he was negotiating his 20 year contract. Vince told Bret he could have anything he wanted & the doc was one of the things on his wish list.
@@sese6227 Xpac and hall are two of many people, involved in wwf at the time, who say it was a work. Earl Hebner has even come out and said it. So, no, I couldn’t figure it out on my own. And why would Bret hold onto it this long, if it was a work? Because of how involved him and his family are in wrestling. He hated people breaking kayfabe. So, if it was a work, it would make sense that he would never come out and admit it because that’s breaking kayfabe.
