I was waiting to see the new Passat for a long time and I am quite dissapointed of the new design - especially the front design. It looks like GOLF variant, not Passat. Previous generation had a very elegant yet confident grill - a lot of stright lines that makes the car aesthetically clean and elegant. When I look at the new design, I dont see any familiar design details from the Passat B8 anymore - which is a pitty. Because I will deffinetly not buy a new VW Golf variant! I think AUDI is doing a much better job these days or even Skoda or KIA. I feel that the last couple of years, VW have been quite dissapoining - the whole ID line up is slow, not exciting and uggly. I don't agree. Proof that design is subjective. I think the back is phenomenal. Yes the front looks closer to the golf, but it's also more beautiful than the arteon and not as boring as the b8. I think people will complain either way, not enough changes with a new model or too close to other models or too futuristic...
I agree, the front looks more like a Golf and this not really good especially considering price , model positioning etc The overall proportion are not working together at all. The 19” wheel look so small . Nice details but that’s not sufficient
It’s all about aerodynamics these days to maximize electric driving range and lower the fuel consumption. And with that in mind i think they did a great job, especially at the rear
There is no comparison though between both cars. I've owned a Superb, Passat and Audi A4 all in a row, similar model years and engines etc . . . the cost cutting in a Skoda is easy to see by comparison. Wow they are noisy cars, the difference in the noise insulation and suspension dampening and control in the each car was staggering.
Really? Everything you say, I’d contradict. When I bought my Skoda Superb Sportline estate, the reasons I did was the better finishing, definitely quieter & roomier than the equivalent Passat. Plus looked sportier than the bland Passat.
The B8 Passat is such a great all around package, and very stylish when it launched, in an understated way. I really like the look of this new one, but not sure it needed to be any bigger; if you need bigger, you got the Skoda Superb, right? I’d still buy it, but when it is 3 years old and half the price.
I've never really found the Passat sedan an elegant design, (have owned one once) but have always loved the estates which to me have a much more pleasing design. But it does seem strange not to offer both options.
Feels like a downgrade compared to the previous generation especially from the back. I think I will wait for the Skoda Superb which has a much better looking interior.
I too disagree with you mate, the previous gen Passat looks outdated, they needed a change badly, any change would have been interesting at this point, i like this one.
@@Astke I see your standpoint but I just think that overtime the old Passat is going to age better as not only because it has a simpler interior (less screens and the software itself is much better considering VW had many problems with its new software since the MK8 Golf) but also the styling might feel dated in the future as lightbars fall out of trend. The front of the Passat B9 (0:40) has details that resemble the front of the VW Virtus Exclusive launched in Brazil, as well as the new Tiguan and the Golf GTI MK 8 facelift 2024, that is, with the grille between the headlights narrower and with the opening of the windshield. wide/large front shock
I see VW still has this completely idiotic only partly electric seat adjustments. Why you can’t choose fully electric seats with memory without the leather finishing is beyond my comprehension 🤦🏻♂️
It was already too many choices. For years it was bothering me that all companies were expanding their model pallet. Our first family car was a red Sportback Passat. It felt different from all our neighbors. Then the models started to not make sense anymore. Going back to models that have long proven identity is the correct move. The limitations are what give decision making meaning.
@@Panagiotis_PapYou mean crossover in terms of Alltrack variant. I thought you meant the Passat becoming a crossover like yaris cross, corolla cross, etc.
Drive it and compare...so far the Skoda are more on the very comfort side and Passat is more agile...didn't like it and choose the Passat GTE...but the DCC pro in Passat will make it your choice how it drives. Since they are both developed and built by Skoda...it is a matter of taste.
@@josefv-y8mI'm more interested in comfort than agility to be honest, and I prefer the looks of the Superb. Not to talk down the Passat if course, I'm sure it's a wonderful car.

Nice video, was waiting for it patiently :) Glad VW is still working on IC cars abit... Headlamp washers seem to be gone for good, sadly. Thanks for not opting out backdoor softness or hood struts. I don't think size increase was necessary, but market probably disagrees with me. Not sure also about the change of gearbox handle, the small lever on Golf works very well IMO. Steering wheel buttons are nice, but where the #$% is the promised return of climate (and more) knobs? Well, will check back in 3y.
New Skoda Superb interior with actual physical buttons and knobs on the steering wheel + those climate+media knobs on the center consol (from offical pictures) >>>>>>>> Passat interior with those shiny plastic touchy-slidy BS everywhere
I have the 2021 GTE. It’s a great car and if battery/boot gets bigger, it’s going to be even more practical for my needs. I have always wanted green Passat for some reason. If it makes it way to Finland, that’s the colour I would go for in the future.
I think the new skoda superb interior looks better especially as it has dials as well as buttons, this passat in r line looks better than the ford mondeo looking normal version in green
@@kraenk12 I hope so, but I doubt it. To get the Golf to look like this would mean changing the bonnet and front panels to lift up the headlights. Facelifts are usually restricted to the 'non-metal' parts of the car, so we may get redesigned bumpers and some minor changes to the lights but the issues with the low headlights and droopy face can't be fixed. Look at the changes between 7 and 7.5 - the metal is the same, just new bumpers and lights.
I’m suuper excited now how the golf and tiguan R will look. The cabin seems so much more upscale now. If this goes through in the tiguan and golf i will Trade in my 2023 golf R perf in a heartbeat!
Ultra-cool, stylish, sophisticated and bang on up to date. I refer of course to Thomas and his excellent review. Whilst we are on the subject the car is not bad either. LOL
in Poland for most people VW Passat is an iconic car - like a point of start of every car. I do not know why. So now - this is the new dream of Polish drivers...
I just saw the official photo's. What a horrible design. Looks dated and has nothing to do with a typical VW-styling. The current Passat is way better.
Also in germany only companies are buying Passat as new cars...but no one spends the Listprice really. Fleetmanagers never spend the full price.. Bought my Passat GTE 50% bellow listprice after only 13k km...I am happy to wait for the second use ;-)
@@josefv-y8m Then thats probably quite the same as here in Finland. Passat and especially Superb are popular company cars. Some people even import used cars from Germany since you have better equipped and cheaper cars and maybe I should too 😄
ID2 shows this already. The new CEO fired the chief designer and replaced him with the Chief from Bentley...future EVs will look like a VW again, not like a toy, which could have been any random Brand
i like how automotives rised their prices by 30% but they forget we workers didnt get 30% rise.. no matter what others will say they dislike the car, i would buy it, but my budget is 30k euro max
I hate how we will never get this. SUVs and CUVs are getting lower and wider and they are trying hard to make them drive like cars. Just get a wagon. Let’s get a 3 row wagon let’s go all in.
Another good review, Thomas 😁. 1:38 I'm a fan of the top spec trim version and a Kombi; not a fan of SUVs. It's a shame that the distributor where I live won't be importing the Passat. 3:09 The Benz-style multi-spoke alloys don't do anything for this car - not my cup of tea. Must be a pain to clean, too. Prefer separate physical controls for the HVAC.
As former Passat owner , T5 and Golf 4 driver, currently driving a Tesla Model 3, I can only say wow, looks fucking good, wanna have it. but I want it as electric vehicle. I hope there will be an ID 7 combi. There is no need for new developed Benzin or Diesels any More.
I really like this and as someone in the market for a premium hybrid from mercedes/bmw etc. I think if they paired the hybrid system with the 2 liter engines this would be a serious contender. I am not interested in a 1.5l engine 5 meter long car.
Why? I drive now 7 years with the Passat GTE B8 and 1.4 only...perfect. Never driven a better, fun (yes, fun) car...and I drove 20 years Audis with V6 TDI. The acceleration from 80 to 120km/h is about 4.5s...a 190HP TDI is about 6.5s... I assume the 272HP version of the new Passat Plugin will accelerate very fast. And depending on your driving profile, most time you will drive pure electric due to the bigger batterie anyway. Even with my small batterie I drive about 66% pure electric. On Autobahn, when the engine kicks in, you can not even really tell that this is the case. It is a very, very quiet engine on constant speed.

Very beautiful car! Anxious to see the new Audi A4(A5) Avant.
The best looking part of this review was the bird opening the rear boot 😂😂😂😂😍
It’s a beautiful car. No fake exhausts. I am so happy with that. A crossover version, will be very much appreciated
Stop that crossover craze
@@vladislavdimitrov4646
Do you think, Audi Allroad is also craze?
@@Panagiotis_PapYou mean crossover in terms of Alltrack variant. I thought you meant the Passat becoming a crossover like yaris cross, corolla cross, etc.
@@vladislavdimitrov4646 Exactly the Alltrack. It would be a nice option I think. In my country, unfortunately we don’t have the best roads
@@Panagiotis_Pap What's your country?
Looks nice enough, but id still rather have a Skoda Superb.
Drive it and compare...so far the Skoda are more on the very comfort side and Passat is more agile...didn't like it and choose the Passat GTE...but the DCC pro in Passat will make it your choice how it drives.
Since they are both developed and built by Skoda...it is a matter of taste.
Neither compares to Audi with Multilink though. A bit more maintenance of course with it.
@@josefv-y8mI'm more interested in comfort than agility to be honest, and I prefer the looks of the Superb. Not to talk down the Passat if course, I'm sure it's a wonderful car.
I like very much the upgrades and consider it all ready for buy. Looks great, and I think the premium feeling is also there.
VW does it again. What a stunning car.
It looks like a Golf. One star.
"A beautiful car. A real spaceship. My dream is to drive such an automotive masterpiece."
I would love an Alltrack version! Beautiful car with great technology.
From the outside looks good, shame there isn't a sedan version. Inside also quite good, looks premium, the screen is too big.
One problem - that idiotic gear selector. Bring back the stick selector!
Looks amazing tbh, much more sporty and real steering wheel buttons!
Nice video, was waiting for it patiently :)
Glad VW is still working on IC cars abit...
“Real buttons on the steering wheel, they’re listening to the customers on Autogefuehl”. That got a smile from me.
Beautiful as usual.
Are you blind?
Maybe he is referring to our video :)
Gorgeous. I wish they sold it in the U.S., especially the plugin-hybrid one.
It looks exactly like a stretched Golf 😅
Which is not a bad thing!
Good job Thomas 👍
thanks my friend!
Right and even better would be a stretched GTI or Golf R. And fire every VW interior designer who says "more electronics".
New Skoda Superb interior with actual physical buttons and knobs on the steering wheel + those climate+media knobs on the center consol (from offical pictures) >>>>>>>> Passat interior with those shiny plastic touchy-slidy BS everywhere
Wow der sieht echt Klasse aus. Innen sowohl Außen 😍👍🏼
Mariposa on the B9 Elegance- also the butterfly, Thomas. Excellent review
Looks like Golf and Arteon had a sexy time to make the new Passat. I like it, especially the R version. 👌
Excellent overview. This is how the Golf 8 should have looked.
The facelift will look similar to this you know
@@kraenk12 I hope so, but I doubt it.
If this goes through in the tiguan and golf i will
Trade in my 2023 golf R perf in a heartbeat!
Ultra-cool, stylish, sophisticated and bang on up to date. I refer of course to Thomas and his excellent review. Whilst we are on the subject the car is not bad either. LOL
👍😎
in Poland for most people VW Passat is an iconic car - like a point of start of every car. I do not know why. So now - this is the new dream of Polish drivers...
I just saw the official photo's. What a horrible design. Looks dated and has nothing to do with a typical VW-styling. The current Passat is way better.
That blue R-line is just right spec for me. Maybe I'll buy it someday from used markets due to our huge taxes 😢
Some people even import used cars from Germany since you have better equipped and cheaper cars and maybe I should too 😄
Hoping the new tiguan has this same color
The headlights are far more attractive than on the id4
Hope they take this design language to their electric vehicles
ID2 shows this already. The new CEO fired the chief designer and replaced him with the Chief from Bentley...future EVs will look like a VW again, not like a toy, which could have been any random Brand
i like how automotives rised their prices by 30% but they forget we workers didnt get 30% rise.. no matter what others will say they dislike the car, i would buy it, but my budget is 30k euro max
That was the best trunk opening I've seen.
Not sure the lady is included though. And it could be quite an expensive extra. 😁
@@99solutionsit10 yea, but without her trunk opening is bland, boring.
I would go as far to not buy a car if she is not included.
Wow. They made a very beautiful Passat. I still love my 2017 Passat, however would love to change for this one. But afraid the price will be high
I hate how we will never get this. SUVs and CUVs are getting lower and wider and they are trying hard to make them drive like cars. Just get a wagon. Let’s get a 3 row wagon let’s go all in.
A screen is not a substitute for real buttons. Seems like a consolation prize
The 11kW AC/50kW DC charging for a 20kWh pack is plenty. Unfortunately it is probably way too expensive compared to some EVs.
First impression is just a wider and better proportioned Golf wagon than every previous Golf wagons.
Wish we would get this in USA, I have USA spec 21 Passat, so far it’s been a great car.
Best jawline in the business.
😁
Thomas or the Passat?
Looks fine to me. Bit long, but good for families that dont like suv....
11:43 Lea certainy looks enticing!
Thanks, Thomas. This looks almost the same as Tiguan 2024 interior. Not sure about that gear selector on the right side though, looks weird.
Cheers! Update on the Tiguan soon!
This will be something I'll consider to replace my VRS when it comes time to change.
Tacky coloured ambient lighting and gloss black parts of interior aside this is lovely.
These sliders for the temperature instead of buttons it what makes skoda superb better in this case
Looks good. Much better than many new cars from the classical premium brands.
The rear camera is not hidden in the VW logo anymore... A real step back in my opinion. This was a great feature in my Arteon SB. 😢
Looks like a golf. And that screen is hilariously big.
The car looks amazing, I like it very much🤩🤩 but too bad that the VW wont put 3.0 TDI engine, then it woud be a beast.
The TDI version comes 1.6 and 2.0 Diesel I will probably go for the 2.0 litre TDI.
Just a BIG Golf, that’s it 😂
Lea was the best part of this car presentation
I wish this came to Canada!
If they sold this in the US, I’d buy one right away.
Wish they will bring this to Canada
