Great video. Easy instructions. Was able to follow instructions and install both trunk struts on my Nissan Rogue 2018. I ordered both struts from amazon for Canadian 250$. Could not have done without this video. Thank you for making this video. Few tips: Removing power cable was bit tricky but did it after rewatching video and following the tips and with use of two screw drivers. Pressed clip with one screw driver and pried up with another screw driver at the same time. Secondly, rather than using timber to prevent falling down of trunk, I placed an A-type ladder under the trunk so that it doesn’t fall when struts were removed.
Thank you very much for this video. My X-Trail has exactly the same issue! I will now order a new pair of struts... How did you reset the opening position after replacing the struts? Did you close the tail gate manually the very first time after installing the struts and then opened it by remote and the ystem got its start and end position by itself? => Yes, I tested it. Just close the tail gate manually and the it works with the remote control. Today I replaced the struts and everything works fine! The only point which lead me not to reach the 30-min-target was disconnecting the electric plugs. So here'e an advice for anybody who is going to replace the struts as well: first stick in a small screwdriver in the plug in order to release the holding nose, like Richard described in the video. Then use a second bigger screwdriver: You'll find a small opening at the plug's side. Put the flat screwdriver in this opening and just turn it a little bit. The plug will disconnect easily.
Thanks mate. I had a similar problem on my Murano and the Nissan dealer in Canada here said $2747 just for the parts, and $1000 for the installation. I ordered the replacement parts from Amazon for $250. It took 10 minutes to take the old ones out and about the same to replace them. It's amazing, the only tool I used was a screwdriver for the little clips and that's because I couldn't find a butter knife or a popsicle stick. 🎉
Thanks for the video. My 2015 had a squeaking noise coming from the ball joint. Removed the clip, released the strut, greased the ball joint and voila !!! no more noise.
Thanks for the info Richard. I had the same problem with my 2018 xtrail, and I'm 6'5", the number of times I've cracked my head on the boot. I spoke to Nissan and they quoted £350+VAT per side for replacement struts, and that doesn't include the fitting. I ordered from the same place as you, a slight customer service issue as one of the struts was broken on arrival but we sorted it in the end. It took me about 30 mins to replace both struts, the hardest part for me was to get my (big) hand in to get to the electrical connectors which were both attached to the body of the car. Being the size I am I didn't use wood to hold the boot open, I rested it on my shoulder. Overall a straightforward replacement, a little fiddly at times, but cost me £79 instead of £840 plus fitting, and if I hadn't have seen your video I may not have attempted it myself.
Hi Richard, thanks for making this video. This seems to be a common problem on all the t32 x trail’s with the power tailgate. I’m also viewing the new power tailgate struts from the same website and also saw your review unless that was another Richard Wheeler. Have to do this as my tailgate is basically unusable at this time as they need replacing. They’re not cheap either £72 per strut at the moment on the website and that seems to be the cheapest option that I can find online at this time. Thanks again for the video.
I thought long and hard and did a lot of research before finally ‘biting the bullet’ but eventually got fed up of banging my head and having to limbo to get anything in.
Hi sportcrazy4444, sorry I have not been able to reply to the email I received but for some reason I couldn’t. The link to the struts you sent is the correct one, they just appear to have come down in price.
Hi, these are the ones I used. carlightbulb.com/products/2014-2019-nissan-rogue-s-sl-sv-sport-utility-4-door-2-5l-2pcs-electric-tailgate-struts-905614ba4a-fedex-express?_pos=1&_sid=a53cfadf3&_ss=r
hi Hevin, a straight swap, really easy. you will not regret changing them. I had got to hating my car and when I changed the struts my bad feelings evaporated.
I am not sure but cannot see it being different as the main difference is the boot floor to accommodate the extra seats. Get in touch with Carlightbulb, I’m sure they can help but struts are returnable anyway.
Thank you very much for posting

Thank you for your comments. Your advice re the A frame steps was good. I’m pleased it has been helpful to other owners.

That’s great news. Really happy the video has worked for so many.

Dzięki tobie wymieniłem. Nie trzeba wykręcać tych śrub, wystarczy odgiąć plastiki i da się odczepić tą wtyczkę

Hi. Was it just a straight swap out with the old and in with new or do you have to calibrate anything after installing new ones?
hi Hevin, a straight swap, really easy. you will not regret changing them. I had got to hating my car and when I changed the struts my bad feelings evaporated.
You’re a life saver man. Just did mine and works like a charm.
