I went to a major retailer and I ask about the tool they use to clean the duct. they said no special tool they keep passing the wire til it works. it never freekin worked. I saw your( this video) and disassembled the same parts(simple tools), pulled the nipple filter plug off and the water and crap came gushing out. I pushed a wire up the orifice to move "the bowel" a bit. I think the car was designed this way or a concept guy said "oh Look some unused parts from another design of something that did not work!" You saved me a lot of money that I do no have. I looked good to my wife and kids(priceless) thank you
Nissan *HAD* to have put these pointless filters in for a reason, and that is to squeeze more money out of us. It's diabolical. Thank God for RUclips and this channel. Really appreciate it, man.
It has me so upset as I am temporarily disabled and my dealership wants to charge me $742 to fix just the leak. That's not the carpet and headliner which are damaged too. My quote from them is over $6,000. Absolutely disgusting. We need to start a class action lawsuit for putting a filter inside and at the bottom of a drain...covering more than 50% of the drain.
Also, thank you, sir, for saving me hundreds of dollars by posting this video. Btw, that hose you left connected, can be pulled apart and reattached easily (it's the windshield washer fluid hose).
Thank you so very much, I found about 10l of watter under the drivers seat and had no idea where it came from as there was nothing on the head liner. After looking at your video, I opened the sun roof and there it was, standing watter. Pored some watter like you did and voila, I sow the watter dripping under the plastic that covers the A pillar. Did what you showed and saved the 900€ that the dealer was asking for. Most productive 20 min of my life. Thanks again
This issue has haunted me for too long. Everyone else saying to just stick a wire down the drain tube haven't a clue (I did that quite a few times already)! Watched your video for a few minutes this morning then ripped out the stopper with some needle nose before work. Took about 15 minutes total. Thank you kindly!
I did exactly what you showed in this video and I had the exact same result. The water just started gushing out. It's actually amazing just how poorly designed that system is, wow! Thank you for showing this so clearly. Seems like a total pain to try to get video of, but it is appreciated.
We just did it after watching this video! It really helps! My dealearship quoted me $150 for this job then my partner and I decided to do it on our own and we finished it in an hour. Thanks for the video! Great savings for money!
To the absolute T this is what happened to our 2014 rogue and I can't thank you enough for this video. I'm the last person to claim to know anything about cars or fixing cars and I did this in about 1 hour after watching the video twice. To anyone about to perform this task watch a video on how to remove rogue wiper arms first. It is a little tricky if you're unfamiliar and no tools are required. Don't try to brute force them off there is some finesse to it, but they should come right off very easily if you're doing it right. The videographer sort of glosses over how to do that part. Same with the clips on the shroud. Get a flathead screwdriver gently up under the part of the clip that is on top of the shroud and while it's under there use your other hand to pull the clips off. They also come right off easily if you're doing it right. Make sure to pour water up top in the sunroof reservoir like in the video to see if it pools and does not drain on the side you're working on BEFORE messing with the drain. You want to know that you've actually cleared a blocked drain when you bend the filter for the first time. Use needle nose pliers and bend the filter piece out of the way....water and probably some brown/grey gunk will come gushing out. Same steps can be performed on the drain on the drivers side too. Our driver side drain was not blocked but the passenger side sure was. You will probably know what side your issues is on based on which side of the headliner is wet when you notice you have the problem. Again many thanks to you ItsCalledSirnica!!!
Simply excellent! It helped me a lot. A couple of years ago I took it to a dealer and he charged me a lot of money but it broke down again shortly after and I didn't want to take it back. The water did not drain, it got inside the cabin, soaking the carpets and leaving a horrible musty smell, so I looked for a solution on RUclips and watched this video, I just applied it and it worked wonders. Thank you so much!
Dude, thank you for making this video. My wife and I just bought a ‘17 Rogue and after last nights rain we noticed wet spots on both pillars. I looked up about it and found your video. Her passenger side had what seemed like a nest in the well where it drains out below the windshield cover. Pulled the nub on that one and a decent amount came out. Residual that couldn’t make it all the way out from last night. Tested that side and everything is perfect. Driver side looked clean which made me suspicious. Pull the nub in the center and nothing really came out. Tested it and it was slower than the passenger side. I got some line from a string trimmer and tried going up through to dislodge any debris. Tested it again and it moved a little better. I wish I was able to find out where the tube starts up at the actual sunroof for that side. I tried and I wasn’t sure if I was going down the front tube or it was curling back toward the rear. Did it a few times from the top and tested once more and it seems satisfactory. Will just have to wait and see I guess. If it keeps happening then I suppose it’s on to getting the back ones drained as well. Anyone see a good video for those? Please refer me to it. lol Thanks again man! Great work!
Awesome thank you I tried running the cable from the top like other videos and couldn’t get it to go down. By doing this I was able to break the filters and run the cable up clearing out a bunch of mud! Now they drain perfect! Tip to get the wiper blades off you can push down and see how they flex, push down and pull out they should pop right off. There is also a different video that expands on this if you’re still having trouble.
Just got in my 2015 rogue, same color as yours!, after a heavy rainstorm and my headliner is wet in one corner. I bet you it’s a clogged drain! I’m taking that filter out in the morning!
I cleaned my filter out yesterday in about 5 minutes. TIP: I didn’t remove the front shroud because there is a small rubber flap on the side of the shroud that gives access to the filter. I simply pulled that back a bit and then took a hose to spray the filter. The clog was removed and water started to drain.
@user-ki4yo2kb5w Trying to locate the small rubber flap you mention, not seeing an obvious one. If you can help me locate it that would be awesome ! Thanks !
Ooo that would probably be more convenient then removing the shroud but as some people mentioned, I didn't see one. What year is your Rogue? It may be a third generation thing
Great video ... thank you!!! I've just had to do this to my X-Trail ... both front drains were blocked. Removing the plastic shroud was not difficult and easy to refit, plus it gives better access to both drain covers. I'd certainly recommend carefully removing the middle piece of plastic with some needle nose pliers, that way it won't get clogged up again. I then got some one to blog the end of the each pipe with their finger whilst I poured it warm water mixed with a citrus degreaser to thoroughly clean both tubes - the water flies out now! Stupid design by Nissan to restrict the exit holes, asking for trouble but quite common with roofs like this. Removing the shroud also allowed be to get rid of the muck below the wiper blade exits. Now I want to double check the rear drains ... anyone know exactly where they exit?
Thank you very much on the detailed video. I watched other videos using the wire method. Which I think just packs the dirt. Once you remove the wiper arms and shroud. It makes sense to follow the video. It makes sense to remove that so called filter. Once you do that, you’ll brake the clog. Good video Thank you
Great video thanks it’s always good to know why the sunroof leaks everybody thinks it’s the seals that are no good when it’s not thank you for this great video
Had the same issue, thanks for the video. I used a bent long needle nose plier to rip the lil sucker off... then used a drain snake to clean it up from both ends...
I’m sure this is what’s going on with my pathfinder. I’ve noticed occasional headliner water stains just appear over several years. Now it has started dripping on us and of course working it’s way down to the dash. Wife wanted to trade cars. Looks like I have a project for tomorrow. Thanks! That is an absurd design…I guess they were worried about spiders or something.
amazing...folks telling me i had to replace my drain tubes to fix this problem. can't wait to try this. absolutely ridiculous. mines been neglected as i had no interest in paying for the fix. hope this works for me given the neglect.
Hello friend, I have a 2018 Murano, the rear door does not open with the front and rear buttons, but it does open with the remote control. What could happen? greetings.
This is also common on Infiniti G37's. The drain looks identical. I expect this problem is common throughout the Nissan/Infiniti lineup since they likely all use that same drain with the baffle/filter thing.
Hi buddy, I like your ideas of fixing the leak in a car. I have a leak in my 2014 rogue Nissan the leak is where the airbag coming down underneath the seat under the passenger side not sure what’s going on if I have to pull off the back there’s always I’m not sure.
Thank you so much!!! Do you know if there are filters/drainage at the back as well? The quote I got stated: Remove roof lining board to unblock front and rear sunroof drainage and re-fit.
The new rouges have the Infiniti old style door handles with the keyless entry button on the outside. This was nice because you could use gloves to unlock the door still. Now they have touch sensitive sensors on the inside of the door so a button no longer needs to be pressed, but it doesn’t work with gloves
Thanks for the video. Have a 2016 Murano. Your video was helpful in finding the plastic piece the drain tube is plugged into. Your right, the design is dumb, why have the filter hidden under a cowling. As in your vid I bent the little piece, water was gushing out. I owe you a beer.
did you say you actually pulled the center out of the white fitting so there is now no filter and the rain water will just run out like it should? thnx for the info.
easy to pull the filter out of the passenger side. The wiper motor needs to be removed (three bolts) to make access to the driver's side easier. I just used a long screwdriver on the edge of the filter and hit the handle with a hammer. Pop! Done. Poured a gallon of water (slowly) in the open tray of the sunroof and it was immediately gone.
i've cut out those filters and cleaned the drain to the roof to get all the dust out. but before that i've got totally wet car after Daniel storm in Greece... there are two more drains under rear bumper as i've seen in some video and they should be in same condition...
I had my forward collision detections sensor fail again after the 1st one failed a year ago. I thought the leaking was from a bad seal from the windshield. I took the car into the dealership for both problems. Got a quote for the sensor at $3000 and that I was negligent regarding my dirty sunroof, which caused the leak. This repair cost me 444$ and apparently took the technician 2 hours.
Wouldn’t you think a company who designed a “filter” would expect it to get clogged, and then have a standardized repair for cleaning or replacement. Stupid design. Nice repair. Thanks. Good job.
Your video is the best one among all of them easy no replacement parts crack the filter that’s it genius. Is it the same procedure for Infiniti m37x ? Thanks.
Thanks bro, I have the same car same color. I appreciate your effort in educating. One that has me going nuts is the DRL. One side is out and I suspect is the ballast. Where in the world is the ballast on a 2015 Nissan Rogue? Check fuses and they are all ok. If anyone knows I would appreciated.
There are at least two drains, one on each side in the front, and if the design is shared across the Nissan/Infiniti lineup, there are also two drains on the back of the sunroof too, one on each side.
@@supergiantbubbles have you found any videos demonstrating where the rear drains are? i fixed my front drains no problem by following this video, but haven’t found much about the rear drains
@@joshmelo same here, front drains cleared no problem after removing small round plastic filter ... I'd like to check the rear drains too, if just to remove the small beige of plastic so they won't clog in the future. I did find this information on another site - copied and pasted > "I had an issue that the rear drain tubes were blocked..tried washing line to clear but no good. The rear also have these stupid plastic end parts that actually prevent the mud from escaping. I found them in the boot, one can be accessed from the jack housing..remove the plug( you need to push it from between the bumper and the bodywork..remove the tube, break off the plastic middle part and clean out. The other side is behind the side trim..bit of a faff mainly push parts on the trip but need to remove the two tie down hooks and another screw under a blanking plate. Water flowing let me a dream now."
Thank you for your excellent video. I had exactly the same problem. This is a very bad design by Nissan. The blocked drain resulted in around 5 litres, yes honestly no exaggeration, of water in the passenger side footwell. It also caused the electronic parking brake switch to fail. The drains that are under the windscreen scuttle have plastic filters that are guaranteed to block with fine debris/dirt that will get into the sun roof and wash down. I cut the filters out of the plastic drain plug and I reckon there will be no more trouble with water getting into the passenger compartment. Our UK Nissan XTrail (I think it is sold under a different name in the US as in this video) is an excellent vehicle except this stupid piece of engineering and the turbo which is prone to fail and is diabolically difficult to remove due to its location at the rear of the engine, close to the bulkhead. I have yet to establish why the turbo has failed twice in 2 years, but expect it to be oil starvation due to a blocked oil feed pipe. This is an expensive problem to rectify, so I really need to be sure that it doesn't fail again.
The only thing i can think of, to why they would put a filter at the end like that is to keep bugs out maybe, idk.... with that in mind really it should have a filter at the top and bottom.
My 08 Altima is clogged on passenger side. Can you replace the filter system piece? I need to remove my glove box. Might try wiper area 1st from outside. Great video. Nissans are definitely notorious for this.
I didnt remove wiper schroude because not sure I can even get to back side of the plug. That piece is behind the glovebox in my Altima and a PIA to reach. I had to cut away insulation. I didn't pull the tube off. Going to try soft coated wire instead of flimsy weed eater wire.
My rouge just started doing this and this vid was money, big thanks. This is the stupidest design, just another reason to have to take it to the dealer.
After the drains are unclogged, take the seats out, pull up the carpet and dry it (takes about 2 days). The carpet has foam cushions that soak up a lot of water and the only way to fully dry it is to remove them, squeeze the water out and air dry.
you can also use a wet vacuum, and I have heard people using a dehumidifier too... plus leave the windows lil bit open and leave the car in the sun to bake ...
@@atomize1981 yes, the wet-vac will pull a lot of the water out of the carpet, but the carpet needs to be lifted off the floor to fully dry. I went through this 3 times before I finally fixed the problem with the clogged plug. A big mess!
If you ever find yourself in Athens, Greece, then let me buy you a drink. I was trying to fix it with a square nylon trimmer line, which I inserted from the top but it couldn't reach the bottom (I guess due to an angle). But the job was done when I inserted it from the bottom. I just can't believe that instead of leaving the bottom full opened, they have put this stupid little thing at the bottom end
And Infiniti vehicles too, a design flaw. I have called Infiniti - Canada, they are well aware of the issue and so are all the dealerships, but they refuse to cover the repair/replacement costs.
I feel that it is NOT a poor design, if you know what the engineers where trying to do. They were trying to allow water and silt to drain while blocking small bugs, spiders, and ANYTHING small enough to fit up the hose, that would make for a safe home for them supplied with water.
Take that filter out really take a pliers and rip it out not the entire plastic piece just that piece in the middle I took mine to a car wash the other day dn my mat on the driver said was wet and I could not find the leak one google search and boom
Nissan told me that they can't clean the drains because they're too clogged, and that I need to replace the tubes. Cost: $1,000 😒 I'm just gonna try to clear the blockage myself.
This makes absolutely zero sense. There doesn’t need to be a filter in the first place, and then they put it inside the engine compartment. Wtf are they thinking? I thought my sunroof seal was damaged too but it looks fine. Instead of the water going into the engine bay, it was going into my car instead. Genius
I struggled to remove my wiper arms for so long. If you can't remove your wiper arms, you have to press down on them with one hand, and pull it out at the base with the other hand. ruclips.net/video/OEzgWH3O2iM/видео.htmlsi=ZzJWh1w_SK0BxXjL

Is there a drain for both sides or just this 1 on the right side
@@supergiantbubbles have you figured out how to clear the ones in the back?
I think the purpose of this small piece is to prevent water flowing noise and bugs to enter the sunroof and passenger area.
Thank you so much this is absolutely the fix
Tried this on mone today but the wipers wouldnt budge after removing the nut. might have to get a heat gun or wait until it warms up
Pry it out with a big flat head screw driver I did it
Thank you so much. What a great video.
For everyone having this issue, are you taking care of the water underneath your carpet? If not, you will have mold.
My God I do and iam so grateful for this video!!!!😊
Gracias lo hice ahora mismo a mi Nissan y funcionó perfectamente gracias bendiciones
Very good help, i had the same problem !
Can’t just put a vacuum on the inlet and suck it clean. Like how I clear a blocked drain with a shop vac.
Thanks for your video. Super helpful
A big mess!
Do both drains come out of the same spot?
No. One either side and one in the boot/trunk on the drivers side
If you ever find yourself in Athens, Greece, then let me buy you a drink.
I was trying to fix it with a square nylon trimmer line, which I inserted from the top but it couldn't reach the bottom (I guess due to an angle). But the job was done when I inserted it from the bottom. I just can't believe that instead of leaving the bottom full opened, they have put this stupid little thing at the bottom end
sweet tools bro @ the 1 min mark
What about Gen 1?
This worked. Thanks you.❤
Thanks a lot. Really helpful video
And Infiniti vehicles too, a design flaw. I have called Infiniti - Canada, they are well aware of the issue and so are all the dealerships, but they refuse to cover the repair/replacement costs.
Twist the filter piece off with a needle nose pliers.
Awesome video thank you!
I feel that it is NOT a poor design, if you know what the engineers where trying to do. They were trying to allow water and silt to drain while blocking small bugs, spiders, and ANYTHING small enough to fit up the hose, that would make for a safe home for them supplied with water.
BUT...since it clogs anyway, if the filter isn't there, easy peasy to shove a wire down like we've all tried to fix it in 30 seconds!
Thank you very much~it helped me to fix my car~
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
That $500 quote explains why they put the filter there.
Thank you brother
Thank you 👍
Take that filter out really take a pliers and rip it out not the entire plastic piece just that piece in the middle I took mine to a car wash the other day dn my mat on the driver said was wet and I could not find the leak one google search and boom
Yea, ripping mine out.
Muchas gracias 🫂
Got a quote for $1700 for this repair lmao😂
Nissan told me that they can't clean the drains because they're too clogged, and that I need to replace the tubes. Cost: $1,000 😒 I'm just gonna try to clear the blockage myself.
Thanks bro
I pozdrav iz Beograda
The dealership wanted 1300$ from us.
Genius
And if there was going to be a filter, like you said, it should be at the top and easy to access to clean out periodically
At least fix the title man. I don’t think the Nissan is wearing rouge today!😊
Nissan I will never buy another car from you again
I struggled to remove my wiper arms for so long. If you can't remove your wiper arms, you have to press down on them with one hand, and pull it out at the base with the other hand. ruclips.net/video/OEzgWH3O2iM/видео.htmlsi=ZzJWh1w_SK0BxXjL
My dealer wants $1100 to clean them
Had this after finding 2cm of water sloshing about my feet. Absolute shit design.
