  • This is one method that I use too clean sunroof drains, depending on how heavy is clogged , be careful when using the special wire brush because you can easily make a hole in your sunroof drain hose and you are screwed , the same using a strong acid , first diluate and after using rinse with a ton of water , and do not I repeat do not spit on your glass , and do not touch your smartphone if you have somme residues of acid on your hand/glove ! you will permanently damage your screen glass ! don't ask me from whirr I know!

    It's good to show, that the entire sunroof channel system is cleaned, not just the drain tubes.

    I was not aware that there are drain pipes, that is very useful to know!

    E34 touring have the same type of rear drainage like in your video :)) but on E61 is a nightmare like you say. I had to remove the headliner so i can remove a few rotten leafs that turned into mud and also removed the caps at the end of the tubes which are located in the rear bumper... anyway nice to see you starting to rebuild your workshop

      Thanks! Do you know the role of the end caps? They are for noise reduction from wind and also serve as an insect barrier . But also is the failure point when mud will start to clog it up!

    It is worth cleaning the drains every 2-3 years, but if the car is 10-15-20 years old, it is also worth improving the seals on ends of the guide rails. Over time, the sealant leaks and, despite unobstructed drains, water can get inside. (btw. I always use dry PTFE after cleaning the guides.) ;)

    I have an 2008 530d E60 LCI , never cleaned the drains or lubed the tracks. I found your video as I was looking for a video for sunroof maintenance (lubing, refreshing the gaskets etc).
    I will use some lawnmower orange wire to run it down the drains as well, it is soft and it should dislocate any build-ups that may be down the tubes.

    I'm on my 4th BMW, all with a sunroof. Previously, I had an F39, which I bought new and ordered with a panorama sunroof. Since I never had any problems or issues with the sunroofs on the first two BMWs, I didn't give the sunroof a second thought and the dealership never told me it needed any maintenance. The car started having passenger restraint malfunctions and the dealership did a lot of work on the seat, including replacing parts on it, none of which made any difference. Then I started having instrument cluster malfunctions and other electronic malfunctions. Back to the dealership for probably the 10th time and they still didn't figure out what was causing the problem. Finally, I looked in the rear storage compartment and it had a puddle of water in it. I was driving the car to the dealership when it died on the road because of a drivetrain malfunction and had to be transported on a flatbed. They took the entire interior out including the headliner and carpet so it would dry. Of course, the cause was blocked sunroof drains. They had the car for a couple of weeks to do this. On the day I was going to pick it up, it was parked in their lot and it rained. I checked and the floor was wet (again), so they had to remove the interior and recheck all of the sunroof drains a second time. As if the hassle wasn't enough, the dealership tried to tell me it wasn't covered by warranty. After a discussion where I reminded them that they never told me it needed any service and they didn't even notice the problem until I found water in the storage compartment, they agreed to cover it. I don't want to know what the bill was, probably well into the thousands. A few months after this was resolved, the extended warranty was running out, so I traded it in. It was the worst car experience I've ever had, mostly because of the fcuking sunroof. People, make sure you get your sunroof inspected and serviced, especially if you live in a place where it rains a lot, such as the Pacific North West. Is the process to clean the drains on an F87 relatively similar to what you showed in this video?

    Thank you very much. Useful information. Please keep doing this kind of content, useful to the end user. dont know about the other folks here in this channel ..but I'm kind of tired watching videos of eSYS, Advanced ( very restricted, individual, dangerous) programming and else. At the end nobody regardless of his skills is going to try anything with NCS, INSTA+ or whatever you cross around. THAANKS AGAIN AND GOOD LUCK with your AMERICAN ENDEVOIR.

    Foarte frumos!

    Salut. In tura de noapte am descoperit acest video. Am F25, deci va fi un fel de mură in gură. Eu până acum doar am uns cu un spray bazat pe silicon acele șine, spray care se pote aplica și pe geamuri, dar bănuiesc că și wd40 merge. Numai bine, tot Ovidiu și aici!

    What about water comming in the rear doors? I have 2007 E70 and both sides have the issue. Also had to rear seal the two rear wire grommets on the left and right sides at the top just to the outer from the drain hole as water was leaking into the rear trunk sides and filling up the left and right rear sides bottom compartments. (2-3inch of water) Had to use a wet vac with the car on a slanted driveway to get all the water out and there was a lot.
    I understand that this is a very common and potential problem becasue of all the electronics that the water hits..escecally on the right rear side

    • @Twinturbo_
      @Twinturbo_ Месяц назад

      You need to replace the sealant from the foam-ish material inside your door. The sealant is called snake butyl.
