Great video! Thanks, you covered all the pertinent topics flawlessly! I enjoy my Action 2, using it on vacations and for bike touring. The small size and easy-to-switch mounts are perfect on the bike. I can go from handlebar mount to selfie stick to visor mount instantly. DJI has imaginative engineers and designers. One disappointment with the Action 2 is the small internal memory in the camera module. For just a few dollars more, it would have made life simpler, especially now that 3rd parties offer mounts with built-in USB-C charging. Because the new Action 3 with replaceable batteries has adopted the magnetic mount of the Action 2, I'm interested in it!
i brought one when it first came out.. and was really frustrating with the overheating..and sent it back.. but i really missed it,, and use it alongside my dji pocket 2.. its come down in price now..also got the dji remote for it..
Nice video. I just got this for a project. Hearing that you paid £455 for yours. Wow. I just got mine for £215 which includes the dual screen. I think this might end up being a camera for super slow mo.
Great video, I bought this not as an action cam thanks to videos such as this. I realised it’s limitations and agree it’s not really a rugged go anywhere action cam but a discrete video camera that can be worn easily due to it’s small form factor. I considered the Insta 360 Go as well but I like the better image quality of the Action 2 👍
You got it. In the dual screen combo you get a mount with a reusable sticky bit. Unscrew that and you have a standard tripod thread. I screw that onto a mini tripod.
Hi Steve. Thank you for doing this video and giving your honest feedback on the DJI Action 2. I have only recently discovered this camera. I am a major follower of DJI products, and I own the original OSMO Pocket, which I purchased shortly after it was released, and I am still using it today with 100 % full functionality. I am working on a time-lapse feature film here in the BC West Coast Wilderness, and I need as many waterproof cameras as I can find capable of 4K resolution time-lapse shooting. I am filming with both high end and B-Roll camera level equipment. I will probably pick up at least 3 of these little jewels, and I wanted to know if DJI has released anymore firmware updates since you made this review 11 months ago ?
No problem! Yes I think there has been one or maybe even 2 updates. I can’t remember the exact nature of the update but it’s all on the internet and the camera will do all the work for you when updating.
The case DJI provides is not a heat sink. It is like an oven mitt. The over temp shut down is not to protect the camera, at this point, but to protect DJI. It is like their legal department said to shut it down, so no bozo sues them for burning themselves. With the oven mitt, the risk of burns is reduced.
The case was to try increase recording time as on launch it was terrible. It does take some of the camera heat as with any case. It does a good job of extending time too in my opinion but I do agree it was to try and please the crowd and not something they wanted to do and then have to give it away. Hence the action 3. An action 2 in action 1 body.
I love the form factor, weight, and build quality. The ease of use and speed of the user interface is top notch. it is perfect mounted to a baseball cap clip for true eye level POV. Very comfortable attached to a headband mount. It truly is an "action" camera though, not built for the really crazy stuff for sure.
I loved those too dont get me wrong but those come with drawbacks. Non replaceable lens cover on an action camera is no go (ive seen smashed ones already) Yes i guess you can capture "action" with it but POV magnet while downhill mountain biking i wouldn't use it incase it fell off or I fell off haha
You just can't play back audio on the separate camera module or with the camera module and battery module attached to each other. You can only play back audio on the device if you have the dual screen module. I have the power module (camera and battery) and can't play back any audio. You can record audio with the camera module on its own.
@@KxngUnkasa5 yes minimal not always heating… I used it ( Dji Action 2 ) on my RUclips livestream. It’s very cool and I like it .. it will overheat only on a hot temperatures. Always place electric fan toward the cam and it stay cool no OH
Bro.. I have my action 2 & I have issues I can't use the video 4k resolution to my Samsung Galaxy A31 can't view the 4k video resolution but 1080 resolution its good thats my issue the 4k video, so whats the best advise to you bro??
Are you trying to view 4K live view in the app? or trying to transfer 4K footage and edit/use on your phone? To that live view in the app is only 1080p like with drones. Its just used for a quick composition view. you should be able to transfer footage to the phone no problem even 4K. You don't have a 4K screen on that phone though. Only a select few smartphones have 4K screens, mainly Sony I believe.
@@SteveHowkins yes I was transferred many times 4k resolution in my phone but the video cannot view it's only sound of the 4k video that I was record that was my issue of my DJI action 2 so what is your advice
@@berniljohntv I usually transfer via USB to my laptop but i just took a quick video and transferred via the Mimo app to my phones camera album (iPhone) and it worked perfectly. I would say its either your phones issue (Im not familiar with that particular Samsung model), there is an issue with the android mimo app or your phone doesn't support the file type you recorded in. Maybe try the obvious. Restart your phone, delete and install the app again. Other than that im not sure what is going on.
This product is so interesting.. I would like to get one but onboard memory size and overheating concern me🤔 I would like to film me & my friends playing golf but can’t decide if this is worth it , with power module now 309€ here and with screen module 369€ . Do you think screen module would be worth it to have better audio while we speak or just get external mic with power module if needed
if you aren't filming in high frame rates (60/120fps) overheating shouldn't be a big issue. Memory transfer speed to a memory card has been improved. Tricky one, the additional screen is nice but if you dont need it a waste. With the prices so close I would get the dual screen and if the audio is not good enough you can get an external mic and adaptor
@@SteveHowkins thank you so much for replying ! Yea I guess screen module would be better option for those extra microphones also 👍🏻 any other actions cams in ~200-350€ price range you think could be worth looking into ? @@kamamat530 I will be buying a Hero 10 soon as I want to try it. Feature wise hero 10 and action 2 are up there i think just a choice between the form factors really as they are polar opposite.
Great tips! 👍 Here are my 5 humble cents for your podcast: if you turn your monitor about 5° facing the darker side of your room or your camera likewise to the lighter side, your glasses won't mirror your screen.
It really depends on your recording environment and also what you are doing. l have been using it in windier conditions using the wireless go and lav mic it’s much better. Also I can be further away from the camera using a wireless mic.
I am totally disappointed with the DJI action2 camera overheating in such a short time at 60 f/s I like to record for a long time and choose what I like it is difficult to predict what will happen. For me Insta360 ONE RS 1-Inch Lens I consider this to be a standard in a small camera
I can understand that. For me I shoot 24fps and then only bursts of 60/120fps for certain action or cinematic slow motion. So no issue for me. I was disappointed with the ONE R as quality wasn’t great and it was buggy after a year. The one rs though looks great.
@@SKYLIMI you will need some sort of dive case for that as with GoPro so could potentially use both modules in water. Really depends what you want to spend and if any of the features are important/benefit to you.
You can yes. To what context are you implying using one? To charge on the go of course but to charge while using is a little impractical for an action camera.
