The question being asked all over the internet is, is this like an oven glove which allows the camera to get hotter but the case stops you getting burned, or is it a heat dissipator so that the camera runs cooler? In other words, if you measured the temperature of the camera with the case off and with it on, would it be hotter with the case on or cooler? Anyway, thanks for the review!
I'm afraid I don't have a thermometer like that, but, in everyday use, I can tell you that it's cooler to touch and it runs quite a bit longer with the case on. Whether the camera is cooler or hotter, I'm not sure about that, I just know it does what DJI says it should do with the case attached, which is a plus in my book. Thanks Peter!
the case isn’t a heatsink it’s a heat insulator that’s the whole reason why it’s not burning you lol the case is plastic it in no way cools the device all it does is activate a higher temp auto rec stop.
comon just admit a plastic case cant be a heatsink at all and it's actually a common sense. And most importantly you'll get prompted to confirm "Magnetic Protective Case installed. Camera usage time extended. Do not remove the protective case during recording as camera unit temperature is too high." It's a direct quote that you can find with no difficulty on other reviews.
You'd need to drop DJI an email about that Robert, it should be on your account if you've registered your Action 2. It's saved my ass a few times when I dropped it.
Do you happen to use filter lenses with the action 2? I've found that the magnet is not strong enough to use on the outside with the case on and the case is not big enough to allow space for it to be attached and still fit in the case - for reference I am using Telesin ND filters, but I would imagine freewells have the same issue
Sure! You can pick up a handlebar mount with the GoPro style adapter, works perfectly with the Action 2, I use one on my mountain bike and electric scooter.
I was just looking for a good protective case and your video came up. I'm glad I did because I didn't know about this case. A good review and a free case! Thank you!
After using it for a while, do you prefer the DJI Action 2 or the Insta360 Go 2? I want a camera for my holidays without missing the action myself - so kind of like the idea of just one button and no screen of the Go 2. Do you miss the option to reposition perspectives after shooting? How does stabilisation compare? Is the Action 2 as quick for recording memories as the Go 2?
Hope you’re doing well . My Insta 360 one r broke yesterday unfortunately the core module got wet because I had it plugged into a power bank at work for my Time-lapse I was going to get the DJI action 2 bun overheating issue is going to be a real problem for me because I’m doing a Time-lapse eight hours at a time at work so in the end I update for the new Insta 360 r/s and that way I can use it with the 1 inch module and the 360 module. It’s a shame that it overheat so much the DJI because it looks awesome 😎 thank you for the awesome video brother
It is a big problem in recent action cameras, especially in such small ones. DJI has done a lot to get it working as well as possible thanks to this case. Thanks Denny!
I am really considering picking up the Action 2 or the Insta360 RS. With this new fix for the heating issue it does now having me really stuck between which one to get. Looking forward to your Insta360 RS to see your thoughts!
I’ll be honest, I absolutely love the Action 2! I bought it with my own money, I’ve been using it since day 1, and I’ve taken it everywhere with me. As an action camera it’s superb, the size and possibility to use the camera module by itself makes it so practical and very useful. The case cools it to a certain degree, but like the GoPro and Insta360, they’ll all overheat at some point no matter what, it’s a ton of tech in a tiny box. I personally would go with the Action 2, unless you want the 360 capabilities of the Insta360 One RS.
@@PhillipSkraba That is great to hear you have been loving it! The extremely portable size and video quality from the Action 2 has me leaning towards it. The potential of picking up a 360 module for the Insta360 RS as well as potential other modules is what has me though thinking if the Insta 360 RS is more versatile down the line. Though the same can be said about the Action 2 since it has the capability of additional magnetic modules like the second screen. Have you noticed a significant different in the video quality between the two? From the few available comparisons I’ve seen, it seems like the Action 2 comes out on top. Thanks for the replies here I know I’m asking a lot of questions 😂
@@PhillipSkraba Oh no! Didn’t realized something happened to the original one you had. Looking forward to the video comparison! Think I’m leaning towards the Action 2 though, just seems like such a great piece of kit.
DJI really messed up this one. Shame I was hoping for a great update to the first one but I just went out and got another one the same. Appreciate the reviews and content though 👍
Really? I LOVE the Action 2, picked it up with my own money and am happy I did. Overheating is problem on this years action cameras, I know, I have them all. The Action 2 though is so practical and easy to use, it's quickly become my favourite. I use it as an action cam, so I rarely have it overheat. Thanks Phil!

Well, it is an action cam, originally designed to be used for action, which usually means it's air cooled. 60fps is also a setting that usually is meant for short bursts. Everything has its limitations, especially when creating such a powerful tool in such a small package. To be honest it's my favourite action cam, due to its size.

Kudos to DJI for coming up with a solution. Excited to receive this magnetic protective case for my Action 2.
Yes, they did a great job!
Can i record with the protective case using the neck strap that comes with it ? Would the magnet work
Yes, I’ve been using it with the neck strap a lot.

A case that makes it run cooler? SWEET!!! Ultimate protection.
Yep, both wins!
I wish all casings were like this. Prevents heating while protecting it overall. It would be good for battery life.

I'm afraid not, the case renders them useless.

I have the action2. The best result I got is with the SmallRig cage. I can run the action2 in 4k60 at all contidions until the battery dies.
That sounds dreamy! I hope SmallRig find a way to make a black one.

Hey Phillip, the free case link does not let me change country to UK and will only allow USA addresses 😡
