    My Thursday is only ready to start after I Make my breakfast and a cuppa Tea, sit down and wait for the next OTSR video, instantly click on it when it pops up, click the like button before I even see Iain and Gary, sit back and enjoy the video and then rewatch the video a few times throughout the day if I can

    This is one of my favorite found footage films ever made, there’s just this very unsettling undertone throughout. It’s a blast to watch with friends!

      I feel like they seem super snobbish about this movie because it doesn’t have the budget or something like this. One point he says “you don’t really know what you are seeing unless you have followed what the rooms look like throughout the movie” which imo was a bit important part of the whole movie, learning the layout seeing what was happening, it felt like I was living there with them. I’ve been watching a scary movie every single day for a while and this one seemed like a perfect mix of horror and story. It seems like they just don’t like found footage movies and need to leave them alone for now.

    Big fan of the Hell House movies. The overall story was just so interesting to see develop as they went on, regardless if you think they're bad movies or not.

    In my opinion, the 3 best found footage movies of all time are:
    The Borderlands (a.k.a. Final Prayer) (horror)
    Europa Report (sci-fi)
    Cloverfield (kaiju)
    If not one of these films is to your liking, then you can scratch found footage from your list.

      Borderlands is absolute banger but all good calls

  • @grantkerr8298
    @grantkerr8298 7 месяцев назад +3

    Found footage demands some respect put on its name. Blair Witch, Lake Mungo, Borderlands, As Above So Below WHS, Paranormal Activity, Europa Report, Creep, Rec, Last Exorcism, etc... You don't have to like all of these films but they are all commendable (even if you don't consider them to be A24 standard). That's a lot of bangers for a genre that is seemingly being treated as a joke.
    Hell House is pretty decent but doesn't stand up to repeat viewings..

    I watched this a few days ago, I loved the creepy vibe of the first 40 mins. As soon as the actual reveal is made, it lost me, it becomes a terrible mess of a film.
    I have also seen several people online calling the clowns, ghosts... When the whole film I was under the impression they were people...

      If you like the genre of mockumentary FF watch Horror in the High Desert.
      There are two and the director just submitted the third called Firewatch for Amazon Prime VOD release meaning it could drop anytime. So FF fans are on the lookout daily. I've been following it since production was wrapping up last Oct.
      It's my guilty pleasure genre.
      If you want a real solid found footage that sticks the landing Gonjiam. It's a South Korean FF and worth a fully invested watch in the dark with no distractions.

    this is the most difficult genre to make, you can see how judgemental they are in this review, even with a good concept and the way to produce it, you can't be average, you already have audiences and critics against you just by the term "found footage", this is an ok movie but in this genre you need more than ok

    • @aaronjustice2566
      @aaronjustice2566 7 месяцев назад +2

      And I def agree. It is a very hard genre to balance.
      Luckily there is a fanbase of FF superfans who go in KNOWING the flaws of this indie genre.
      Like I wouldnt like the horror in the high desert series or the hell house series if I was expecting a conventional film style.
      But Gary highlights the positives of how he is engaged with every character.
      I love FF and even the faux documentary subgenre. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure because on the flip side I'm a bit of a film snob but I love seeing people with a micro budget making the most of it. Like FF is unambitious for a big budget but it might be your only chance to make a truly effective horror with near zero budget. You might not be able to make a monster gore movie on zero budget or at least one with solid effects but you might pull off a ff or mockumentary that is effective.

    The ideas left at the end of this first film that sort of unseen horror of not knowing what happens to them and your mind slowly ticking away thinking about it was the best part of this movie for me. It seems the director understood the idea of the scariest things are the things you don’t see but failed in the execution by as Gary said not leading to any sort of cool kill or little glimpse to make the journey seem worthwhile. Very cool ideas and a great first attempt but somewhat unfulfilling.

  • @1kylecurry
    @1kylecurry 7 месяцев назад +2

    Granted, while not a classic of the genre as horror fans we always acknowledge all involved with their ideas, drive & passion to do as much as possible with the limited resources. Hell they made 3 movies you got to give props for that.

  • @trevorlambert916

    I think the ability to take away your expectations of a regular horror film and actually imagining found footage as being 'real' is completely necessary to really appreciate these types of movies. The scares in this movie are very effective yet simple and less about the camera man getting the best shot possible and more of how the footage would look in real life if it was found. Plus they set up in the beginning why Alex is so set on finishing this and choosing to ignore any real danger in a real haunted house; we as audience members wouldnt do it but we should be able to understand why HE would. In my opinion keeping the actual portal to hell up to you to imagine makes it way more freaky, just like tue conclusion to Blair Witch Project

    Iain, a fantastic found footage that you wont be able to sit down and know what to expect and think gou have wasted your time, the South Korean horror Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.
    Its a good in and fully invest in the dark FF horror. As someone who likes the genre its finding flicks like Gonjiam that keep us watching them.

    This is realy a chose your own adventure depending on how involved and convoluted you want to get. There are 4 of these movies all together. If you are in for the full ride watch the the theatrical releases. All is explained including that one clown. If you want a one and done watch the Directors Cut. It fills in a few blanks that the theatrical release doesn't.

    Rather surprised you two didn't watch the director's cut which has 8 additional minutes. I think it solves a few of your criticisms.
    I mean a literal hell hole opens in the climax of the director's cut.

    Found footage films to me are always ugly to look at, so there's no real sense of cinematography to enjoy and they're inherently dumb. Who in their right mind would keep shooting in these situations? There is rarely a logical or rational reason for people to keep recording. I just laugh.
