Warwick is a legend. You will worship him and quote his lines with the same accent "Shows Ovaa". The song during end credits is just.... something else....maybe the greatest song ever created. Brad Dourif should have been a Ghostbuster. Cool to see Wishmaster as well.
@@ThreadBomb Totally. The artwork was amazing back then because they had to use the covers to sell the films. Nowadays that obviously doesn't need to happen. I used to love going to the horror section of the video shop and look at the covers.
Brad's line: "God...DAMN! OHH!! ADIOS MOTHERF*CKER!!!" Is one of the most iconic lines ever spoken on film lmao I love it! The film itself is...ok. If you're curious, check it out. If not, don't worry, you're not missing much. Great review guys! Glad you review this one! GOOD JOB!
Travia bit: Steven Macht (Warwick) was Gene Roddenberry's first choice to play Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Macht end up on Star Trek in a guest spot on DS9 as an alien soldier.
Very similar experience my first (and I think only) time watching this movie. Rented it from a hole-in-the-wall rental store, entirely because of that poster. Then disappointment lol
I think The Night Flier is a pretty good, underrated Stephen King adaptation for what it is. I mean, it pits a "bloodsucking journalist" (RIP Miguel Ferrer) against a vampire, a literal bloodsucker.
The end credits...Indeed I thought the same thing..and this time the coolest scene in a movie is not just before or after the end credits but within itself..
Great film, always loved it ever since I rented it among 3 others on VHS sometime in the early 90s. Night flier is great too, people who rate King films need a check of their noggin'. I started reading my parents King books at 9 some years earlier.
Loved this movie, I also saw it as a child late at night. I was instantly intrigued and watched so hard. That basement and how it kept going down was so interesting.
Stephen Macht does sleazy really well, as you mention he's in Amityville 1992 as it was called when I rented it and he was in other Amityville films as well and also several Trancers movies so I was made to feel he was a sleaxy character
i think the can just hits the wood in front of the rat and the rat ran off when it saw the can coming (probably slower then sped up too) i forgot about the weird end credits song until it came up here lol
I quite enjoyed this one. I wasn't aware of the the deleted parts, I suppose it makes sense seeing some things they set up. Also... guys the Night Flyer is pretty good. I would argue is better than the original.
This film holds a lot of nostalgia for me seeing it in the theater when I was 10 years old with my mom and dad. I always felt Night Flier is highly underrated and one I also really enjoy.
Yes indeed there are peaks & valleys in Stephen King adaptations. While not a classic by any means some of the practical SFX are good along with some nice cinematography shots. Agreed pacing was an issue as well, but on a lazy afternoon it could be slightly watchable...I suppose.
This was one of those movies I swore I had seen, but couldn't decide if it was a falling asleep in front of the TV fever dream or not. Turns out I had seen it.
This is a great bad movie. One of my favorites. Great performances, rats, and a cool monster. Much better than Children of the Corn and some of the others mentioned. Maybe Dourif's best role. I have no love for Chucky. He's just too bizarre and silly in the Alien sequel. This and Billy Babbit are his most iconic roles. Plus, Wishmaster...and a bunch of unique nobodies. Can't get enough of Graveyard Shift. Please review Dead Zone and Thinner some time! Both classics.
This replaced the showing of the first nights showing out of two nights of IT, Scheduled in the tv guide sometime in the mid 90s. what was shown instead was graveyard shift. was gutted
There's quite a few of Stephen King movies that are fine but some of the smaller productions are much closer to what I remember reading and experiencing as a kid, lol. Some of the bigger productions got the touchy feely stuff correct but I gave two shits to that junk, lol. In later decades the schmaltzy junk King wrote has become quite popular
Why oh why not just use the original short story as-is and tell some of the other stories as well. The Mangler would have made a good addition, instead of trying to cram the monster from that story in as well. Also don't pick a rat up by the tail it's bad for them.
Gary: Ian, someone is breaking in our studio! Call the police!! Ian: Okay, You can count on me!!! Police: Hello 911, what is your emergency? Ian: Well, the story follows...
Stephen King must have had some lousy employers at some stage. Pat Hingle was a jerk boss in Maximum Overdrive, Stephen Macht in this, and Robert Englund was the craziest in The Mangler. The person being stuck in the wing seems to have been lifted from this film for Jeepers Creepers 2. Very similar death sequence.
It's funny how the "drifter" looks the least homeless of all the characters in the movie. The list of bad Stephen King movies is impressive. Any chance of a review of Sleepwalkers?
In the short the guy's a drifter who stops for awhile to take what work he can get, it takes place during this extreme heatwave-- nineties and hundreds of degrees during like two and three in the morning hours. So they're working down in this rat infested infested basement and the dude spends his breaks pottin' em wirh his empty beer cans-- and he never seems to miss. In fact, the rats seem to hate him. There never was a slingshot, and they weren't soda cans. He and the other guys he's working with discover this massive old rusted shut trap door-- some sort of sub basement. The asshole boss makes them force it open and go down there too. The rivalry between drifter and boss has been building, and right around now shit turns personal with some sort of dare (I forget). The monster rat in the short either doesn't have wings or they aren't it's main deformity-- it has these massive ripped front legs and NO BACK LEGS AT ALL. It basically moves by draggin' itself around on it's ass. It's vaguely said that the drifter "thinks that of all the places he's been, he's actually been waiting to find something like this".
From what I remember of the story , there was various rats with different stages of deformities? It has been years but I actually seen the movie first then managed to hunt a copy of the book down and it wasn't what I expected (compared to the movie)
@@paulie.walnuts2838 I remember there being smaller rats-- an entire army of several armies worth, and that they weren't scared like the upper basement rats, they'd just swarm and bite. The big front legged one was like their big king daddy.
@@paulie.walnuts2838 I might remember SOMETHING about wings. It's been well over a decade by now. And is that the one with Trucks, AKA what Maximum Overdrive and it's remake COULD have and SHOULD have been?
A decent adaptation although especially the ending is way different from the story. I liked this even better after rewatching. Good to see Andrew Divoff starring in this. Generally the Night Shift collection is a must to read. BTW Graveyard Shift was the first short story that I read in Spanish :D. Guys, I couldn't possibly ask for more than this review.
Once again this channel revives forgotten memories, i barely remembered this movie, it has the usual King style, a monster or surreal thing going on, but the plot and main conflict go around grounded characters, is a shame it did not had a better production
If I remember right, this follows the story fairly well. So the parts that seemed sad and unfair, well - that’s Stephen King for you! I always liked this one personally!

Can't bore if the Dourif
@@ManDuderGuy I wish he would play heroes more often.
Guy is a master class actor that gets no credit.
They killed him off to quick. His tobacco had more charisma than the main actor.
I think he's also great in Spontaneous Combustion despite the film's many issues.
I'm with Gary on this one, I LOVE this film despite it's flaws, it's one of my favorite creature features❣
Wow, I lived up until today thinking that Warwick was played by Fred Ward!
I remember thinking the same thing for years. They’re dead ringers alright.
